Anuradhapura hotels & accommodations

It was our second stay at Heritage hotel in Anuradhapura and management did not disappoint us again, on the contrary. Staff is again friendly and service minded, especially for one of our disabled companions. The scenery from the hotel is magic: the beautiful view of Thissa Wewa with all the 2000 year old large Dagoba’s on the horizon. Breakfast and dinner are buffets ...

We stayed here for 2 days as part of our honeymoon whist sight seeing in the cultural triangle. It is well positioned for all the major sights in the area. It is difficult to find and we were glad our driver knew where he was going. The lack of signs added to the mystique of the resort. We really enjoyed being mixed in with the wildlife with wild peacocks visiting ...

The Sanctuary is a beautiful hotel set in extensive gardens. The food was some of the best we have had in Sri Lanka and restaurant staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is close to the temples of old Anuradhapura - we borrowed hotel bicycles to tour the sites. All up, a great experience at a very reasonable price.

The villa in the garden is vast and beautifully appointed, lovely design and very comfortable. There's a mini-bar, A/C, tea & coffee making facilities, TV and one of the best mosquito nets we came across in three weeks in Sri Lanka. Large king size bed and very comfortable indeed, plus a range of pillows to suit most people. The place is immaculate. There is an outside...

We stayed here for two nights Although it took a while for our room to be ready we were very pleased with it. The reception staff were most efficient ad rented us two bikes and directed us to the ancient city and were also very helpful with a tuktuk and getting off the local bus at the best stop. The food we had when we chose Sri Lankan was very nice. Maybe the nood...

We spent one day and one night in Anuradhapura and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Sacred City Tourist resort. The room was clean and well kept, the homemade dinner was delicious and the location is perfect to see the temple city. The owner is a fantastic resource to help plan any excursions and provides a map of the temple area and walks you through the city area. He c...

This B&B/Guesthouse will give you an authentic taste of life in Anuradhapura that is difficult to get elsewhere in town. Like all B&B's the bells and whistles are somewhat spartan. There is a supermarket near by to stock up when needed but water is the main 'must have' that is always on hand at the Guesthouse for purchase which is handy on the hot days. The location is...

We had a very pleasant 3 nights stay in this hotel. It has a homely atmosphere and the hotel staff were more than willing to look after all our needs as much as they could from the moment we checked in to the hotel. The general cleanliness of the hotel and the rooms are not below to any 3-4 star hotel in Sri Lanka. It would be difficult to find a better hotel in Anurad...

Our stay here was the best of all the (9) places we stayed in Sri Lanka. The accommodation itself is a tent of course but this is definitely Glamping! There is an attached bathroom, electricity (at night), porch and lots of little touches that make your stay comfortable. The staff were friendly, extremely knowledgeable about the surrounding nature and unerring in thei...

Lievi's Tourist Accomodation is one of the accomodations where I felt the most comfortable in Sri Lanka. The loaction ist really good: close enough to the city (even when there barely something to see there) and you can rent bikes for a good price to go to the ancient cities, which takes with a bike under 10 minutes. I personally recommend visiting the ancient cities a...

Rajarata Reach Resort’s rooms are superiorly clean & tidy and very comfortable, give best value for the money. The hospitality was exceptional, very accommodative to personal requests and big credit goes to Mr.Chammika for his dedication to accommodate me late in the night, and provide late check-out time in the next day. Undoubtedly one of the best place to stay in An...

Definitely good value for money. Kind staff, Wimal (the owner) was welcoming and helpful. Helped us optimize our itinerary in Sri Lanka thanks to his long experience as a driver. Breakfast was included, we asked for local cuisine, it was delicious (home cooked by his wife). We also had diner twice, only good surprises (authentic and full of flavors). Location is convin...

Cheap places to stay in Anuradhapura

The place is in a nice, quiet location, the staff is very friendly and helpful and the room (3 beds) was very clean. My highlight however was the tourguide that led the "Mihintale at sunset" and "Bodhi tree/stupa at night" tours. Good value for money and unbelievably friendly and knowledgeble guy!

So this place wasn't our first choice when it came to staying in Unawatuna since we were looking at a property on the beach, but in hindsight I'm so glad I came to stay here! Tropical Retreat is one of hidden away, small boutique kind of hotels. Tucked away from the sea and surrounded by greenery it has a really nice feel to it. The manager Malit is a really friendly a...

Very, very sweet guy! He accommodated my boyfriend and I even though I messed up the dates of our reservation when I booked. Great guy! What you pay is what you get. No frills. Pretty clean. Nice garden area. If you're traveling on a budget I would consider booking here.

So lovely, warm and welcoming hosts! the rooms ae very clean and the veranda invites you to just relax after a day of sightseeing. it is indeed a bit outside of the main city which I see as a plus. It's quiet and relaxing. you still have some restaurants and local stalls in walking distance. I urge you to try breakfast and dinner - this is sri lankan food at its best a...

Mediocre experience. Floors, walls and bathroom were all dirty but most places are the same. The room became way too humid after the first night. Awesome location with grocery stores, liquor stores, market, an amazing restaurant across the street called Ranjiri (CHEAP) and within bicycle distance to the Sacred City.

This was my favorite stay in Sri Lanka. Herath and his family are wonderful and kind. Very helpful in planning trips, very pleasant to chat with, incredible home cooking, bicycles to use, if you choose. It was all good, and I wish I had stayed longer! Would go back in a heartbeat.

The Village Garden Inn is a lovely guest house in a small village about 18K north from the centre of Anuradhapura. The setting is nice and quiet and full of animal noises such as peacocks etc. Muthalif and his family were very welcoming and looked after us very well. His wife's cooking was fantastic!!! You have to factor the travel costs into the price which is 1500 ru...

The room was spacious, very clean and with working AC. You can easily go to the city or visit the temples by bicycle (available for rent at the homestay). The family was lovely and they cooked delicious meals for us. We can only recommend this homestay if you are looking for a nice, quite place to stay in Anuradhapura but still want to be near the city/temples.

Lievi's Tourist Accomodation is one of the accomodations where I felt the most comfortable in Sri Lanka. We had a great time in Anuradhapura, and Lalit the tuktuk driver was brilliant! The staff recommended we go and visit Mihintale on our first evening. Lalit took us out there (13km each way) and waited for us, and 2000 for the round trip was good value as it's amazing! We watched the sun set from dagoba, and the views from the rock behind are stunning! Well worth visiti...

Seems the previous manager set up the online booking and now has left the hotel all together leaving with passwords for these booking sites. Our stay was unexpected. Thankful that rooms were available. The food is awesome! The rates were a bit high considering the condition of the rooms. But for a one night transit it was perfect. The owner went out of his way to acc...

Recommend to Contact hotel directly even if you book through online and confirm. I made a booking through agoda but once I reached there manager says that they have hold the online booking for 2 days and he did not have rooms for us . We were ok as we came earlier and even he helped us to find alternatives place and refund the money but if someone just relying on onlin...

We had a great stay at Nadeejas. It is perfect for relaxing after sigh seeing and the hectic city live. The owner is friendly and helpful but also knows when its better to give you some space. His English is not the best though. Even without air con it is not to hot thanks to the surrounding garden and the architecture. A colonial feeling mixed with traditional element...

pro - near park entrance, owner is able to communicate in english online, guy who checked us in is not able to, can book jeep tours (do bring sri lanka money for park fees even though some things may be quoted in USD, we were turned away at the park entrance and needed to go back to accom and change money of which the jeep driver charged additional) con - very near na...

City Resort has more of a homestay feel than hotel. My room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The breakfast was freshly prepared when you were ready to eat. The customer service is exceptional - the staff helped with planning out a cycling tour in Anuradhapura, a car hire to Polonnaruwa, a tuk-tuk tour. All with exceptional prices, I met other travelers and the tour...

Real reviews for hotels
Anuradhapura is a small town that dates back to the ancient period. It is famous for its historiicity and gives one a feel of the past.
Great City. Ancient Ruins will take you to a different world. Choose the AC Shuttle by CTB for shrine visits.
Depending on your level of knowledge about Sri Lankan history and Buddhism the World Heritage site of Anuradhapura can be challenging.
The old city is spectacular with centuries of history and culture and evidence of a civilisation more advanceed than the present one.
Go early in the morning to visit the big white dagobas, later you will burn your feet on the white marble floors
Don't stay longer than 1-2 nights. Apart from the ancient ruins there is absolutely nothing to do. it was even difficult to find a decent place to eat.
There are best temples in Sri Lanka, so I woud recomed everybody to visit the city. Also with children.
We could do most of the sights in 4-5 hours. Be prepared to leave your footwear behind in most places and spend $30-40 on entrance fees.
The famous ruins where not as spectacular as we had anticipated, finding that Polonaruwa was a lot nicer.
You need at least a full day to enjoy the sights of the city itself and then another one or two days to see the sights of the surrounding areas.
Anuradhapura is all about temple visiting. So, during the trip, you will need to walk barefoot for most time, be aware! Also, it's important to hire a guide.
