Kandy hotels & accommodations

I’ve been unhappy with Kandy hotels so far until my stay at Ozo. It’s up the road from the lakefront, and has a lovely relaxed look and feel to it. I enjoyed both lunch and dinner there, and the buffet breakfast was generous and tasty. The staff are impeccably trained, and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I hope this hotel keeps up its standards. For now i...

Majestic Hotel in kandy city centre. Good location to stay near shopping n food area. Loved the views from the room n restaurants. Mountain view. Nice pool n gym. Staff were polite n frenly. Should privide toothbrushes n toothpaste as part of toiletries but was given upon request. Good breakfast. One lift only if i am not wrong. Waiting time a little longer.

I visited Sri Lanka for a short period, after staying in Amaya for one day, decided to stay longer, seeing the excellent service they provided. Staff was very friendly, I felt like home. Food was exceptional with a variety of choices. Walking tracks around the mountain leading to the top of Hantana was an excellent experience with picturesque views. Inside the hote...

We thoroughly enjoyed 6 nights in Kandy and our choice of Hotel made our stay VERY special. The facilities, the ambiance, the quality of food, the friendly staff, and the views were SUPER. We also appreciated the Live Entertainment each evening. Being visitors from Australia we enjoyed seeing the Sri Lankan Weddings that were taking place in the Hotel. Our stay in this...

I will eventually buy a house on the outskirts of Kandy in the hill country where it is even cooler, this is where I went to on this visit! I stayed in the Yala National Park at a fabulous hotel called the Yale Park Hotel. Absolutely amazing place with infinity pools outside all of the rooms. The rooms without exception were all massive and really well thought out. A ...

Stayed at this Kandy City Hotel for 1 night during a recent holiday trip to Sri Lanka. It is a new hotel and has just been in operations for a few days when we stayed there. Everything is still new and even our room had a fresh smell of paint when we first entered it. Locationwise, it is located at the heart of Kandy City, so it offers close proximity to the lake, ...

This was my favourite hotel of all those we stayed in during our three week holiday in Sri Lanka. It was a peaceful haven away from the hustle and bustle of Kandy. The whole hotel is beautiful furnished with interesting pieces of artwork around. Lovely pool area and great staff. I particularly must mention Dilini who was a wonderful hostess!! I wish we could have s...

The room was great with a large bed, perfectly sized (can easily it 2) and clean shower and a beautiful view on the river. The staff was super friendly and attentive. The best thing however was the SPA. I went twice and had different girls with different programs. They were very well trained, with re right pressure on either the relaxing or the deep tissue. The product...

I heard about this place from social media and most of them call it Paradise of honeymooners. While our stay I realized how they deserved that name. This is one of the best hotel and places in Sri Lanka. I think at least you have to visit this place once. About our stay. The road to this place is not that easier, but as we all know difficult roads leads to you into be...

my partner and i stayed here for 5 nights. we wanted to be away from city life of kandy; we made the right choice - the hotel’s location is exquisite. our driver did an excellent job in locating it – not particularly easy but, if you make sure you have elegant’s telephone number, he can call them for directions. the rooms are spacious clean and comfortable. we o...

We had wonderful time at Swiss Residence Kandy. Peaceful place and easy access to the hotel and very short distance to Kandy city. The parking is good and security guards are helpful to park vehicles. Welcoming is good with welcome drink. The room quality is excellent and way better than we expected. Doorbell and door access panel of hotel room is modern and love the w...

This is by far the best hotel in kandy, western standerd rooms and service, hard to get at Sri Lanka in general, the manager bought us train tickets a month ahead of our visit, it was the last tickets at that date, as he spent 3000 from his own money to get us this tickets and without that our journey would fall apart as we were dreaming about this train ride, then upgr...

It is a typical four-star hotel, big and popular with tour groups. The service is good, as is the breakfast and dinner buffet (catering for western and sri lankan tastes). The WLAN is shaky (the hotel claims that it's better than in most places in Sri Lanka. Which doesn't make it less shaky). We found the staff professional and friendly, the lower in the hierarchy the ...

We travelled as a couple and had a wonderful, relaxing time. We were met by Mr Sunny at the train station in Kandy as pre-arranged with the hotel. The ride to the hotel was a bit arduous as we had not expected the narrow, bumpy roads cum dirt tracks and it was by car and tuk tuk. Our first evening meal was a bit of a disappointment as I now realise that we arrived late...

We really enjoyed our stay here in Kandy and a part of this was staying at 360 View. Its clean, homely and welcoming. Newly built and all facilities are top class! We would definitely stay here again if we return to Kandy. The roof top pool and observation deck are just the icing on the cake!!

Our first night in Sri Lanka was spent at this little hotel on the hill...a totally unassuming enterprise, until you wake up in the morning and hear the birds outside, open the balcony doors and you are struck by an awesome view of the Mahawali river meandering down below, against the green lush backdrop of the opposing forest. On the river, slowly moving fishing boats...

Although this hotel is right on the lake road, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. Our room was spacious with a huge balcony directly overlooking the lake. The bed was super comfortable and everything was clean and modern. Best shower in our 7 days in Sri Lanka so far - lots of hot water, great pressure. Wifi very fast and dependable. Staff was frie...

Literally one of the best places we have ever stayed. The location is not in the town centre however it's only a short tuk-tuk ride away and the view you get of of the valley and the town from the hotel is incredible (far better than it would be in the town itself) as this place is basically up the hill overlooking kandy in all it's beauty. The room was beautiful and c...

The Mountbatten was the first hotel on our journey in Sri Lanka, and the perfect place to be for exploring the temples of Kandy and also finding time to chill by the pool with the incredible views of the hills. The staff were by far our favorite of all that we met in Sri Lanka, and were super helpful when sourcing our train tickets to Ella, as well as helping us with...

Staying at the Samadhi Centre was a truly memorable feature of our time in Sri Lanka. The location means you have to do a bit of driving to see the sights in the Kandy area, but it is worth it for the feeling of true escapism each afternoon when you return along the windy road, to the cool, shady, tranquility of Samadhi. Travelling with small children meant we had to k...

Best night on Sri Lanka! Very nice hotel. Great design and comfortable furniture. We had best night-sleep over there. The bed was better than at my own house! Room is super-practical and has a perfect size. Bathroom was well organized. Everything was at the right place. First thing we saw was swimming pool. Even though it was very late we could swim and enjoy evening ...

The hotel stuff are friendly. The boss is friendly and helpful too. He helped me to amend my bookings accordingly as i had booked more days than i required initially. He also revised my booking cost accordingly. The breakfast provided by the hotel is very generous, based on the amount we paid for. It is really value for money. The hotel has lift which is ideal for elde...

New hotel, very clean, centrally located in Kandy. Staff was very helpful and attentive. Hotel is located in the centre of Kandy, but we didn't have any problems with noise from the streets or anything like that. Restaurant was very good, probably the best food that we had during our three weeks trip to Sri Lanka, menu prices were also lower than in the ones in Hikkadu...
Cheap places to stay in Kandy

Didnt have high expectations of this hotel. Boy is this place underrated. Safe to say the best hotel we stayed at in Sri Lanka. Staff were super friendly and accommodating, the manager was really great to speak to, enthusiastic about great service so he commands his staff around and gets stuck in himself. Gave us some great cooking tips too! Pool is smallish but really...

I have been travelling since 5 months but this was the best hostel I have ever stayed in. The family is amazing. They will make you feel at home. They welcome every guest with tea and cookies. They also serve u with amazing breakfast. I stayed for three nights with them and everyday they would serve me with deilicious breakfast. I wish I could stay there for a month so...

the location is good, ten minutes walk to the town center, lakeside and Daladamaligava( the temple of the tooth)., yet in a very silent place, best place for backpackers and solo travelers who are on the budget.the owner is a nice honest guy, small place dont expect too much. the climb to the accommodation is a little stiff. its not for family traveller, highly recomen...

We got instantly picked up after arrival at Kandy station by the owner himself. Turned out he has 1,2,3 stories to tell about the city, area and his country, to put it short: a very communicative and helpful guy (as well as his staff). He insisted on approaching him if we have any wishes or concerns. Our room was simple but effective, a good place to rest and recharge ...

I came for 3 days and have spent another 5... And I am not here for the last time. Excellent place especially for a photographer, close to the centre of Kandy (7 minutes by public bus) and kind and helpful family. In fact is a homestay... Highly recommended!

We booked this place for our trip to Kandy. It's a little ways off (500 rupees for the tuk-tuk trip from Kandy City) but you're guaranteed peace and quiet and a very relaxing stay. Restaurants are quite a ways off, so if you want to eat at the house, make sure you do a take out. Alternatively, the grocery is about a 5-minute walk, so you can buy food and use the kitche...

The hotel itself is very basic, but adequate. It is a good value place to stay for those on a budget, relatively close to Kandy cente with good wifi. The main selling point about this guest house is the owner, Herbert. After our stay, I realised I had left something in our room. Herbert was incredibly helpful on the phone, and even agreed to ensure it would be waiting ...

The best facilities... Nearest bus stop is 10 min. walk away. Bus station and railway station are at 10 min. drive away... Facilities are of word class standards... Clean and neat environment. They don't even allow your footwear inside. 24 hrs check in and 24hrs check out. They provide kitchen if you like to cook on your own. I have kept my luggage there for two days a...

The room was fine for a basic room. It was about a 20 minute walk from the main Kandy attractions. The main guy working there was a bit weird and made me uncomfortable. When we arrived he was really pushy about getting us to go on their tour even after we told him we already had one organised. He also made a disapproving comment about my boyfriend and I not being marri...

The accomodation is pretty new (2017). living room/dining room and balcony are luxery and guest room pretty basic but the bathroom is special. there were some cables coming out of the wall, i dont know what they were for. the guest rooms are next to owners room. the owners are super friendly. unfortunately there is no menue list for food and drinks they offer. its eas...

I was very happy about staying here. I just booked one night but extended to two nights. It has a great placement, not in the middle of Kandy, but it only takes 10-15 minutes (a bit up the hill - but that just counts as a nice little butt-workout. Or else the tuk-tuk drivers will happily bring you there!) and then you would be in the middle of the city or back at the ...

Comfortable bed, walkable if wanted from the city center otherwise a short trip with tuk-tuk, clean rooms and bathroom although share with quite many others. And breakfast included, which makes it more practical and worth the price! The staff will also help you out regarding plans in Kandy, order taxi, help with directions and recommendations, etcetera.

The perfect location to stay whilst in Kandy. A short 5min tuk tuk ride from downtown Kandy. Purchased on the top of a hill in a leafy suburban area. This location gives visitors to Kandy an oasis to retreat from the hustle and bustle of downtown Kandy, after spending the day sightseeing or shopping. Great location, only a short tuk tuk to the best bars and restaurants...

you have a really stunning view down to kandy. The family is very kind and is always happy to help. A tuk tuk from the train station to the accommodation costs around 300 rupees. The breakfast is easy but good. The owner served tee as a welcome drink. I would definitely stay again at this nice and small homestay.

The staff was amazing. Plus the service. It was brilliant. Since the day we checked in until we checked out the service we received was super perfect. The best benefit is the hotels situated at the centre of the Kandy city its a great privilege for the travellers who can find and visit all the places so easily. And the rooftop restaurant was so peaceful and calm where...

The facilities are quite good but are let down by amateur staff. When I arrived my reservation (which I had a printout of) was treated with scepticism because the guy at the front desk had never heard of Agoda (his English was also very poor). Instead of talking to me about it, he saw a phone number I had written down in pen on the corner of my trip notes and just call...

A new Hotel close to the Lake and just 5 minutes walking to the Temple of Tooth and Shopping area. The Hotel is very Cool,i stayed at Dormitory and it was nice room, very clean, lockers inside, confortable bed with wall shocket in all the beds,A/A 24h,High Speed wifi, and Nice Tv Room area. Hot Showers. If u are traveling through Sri Lanka i highly recommend you to Stay in...

Alex and his wife are wonderful host, very friendly and helpful.. Alex can arrange tours for you, in and around Kandy at best prices. The food was delicious, they give importance to your comfort and not just money!! Derick, recommmeded by Alex, drove us for tours to Sigiriya and Nuwera Eliya, he was the most friendly guide we have ever had.. Overall, a pleasant stay ...

Owner was very kind and helpful. I asked if I could pay in USD and he willingly obliged. Gave him 100USD and unfortunately we had some minor miscommunication as he returned me change in rupees! However, he was very apologetic and proceeded to make another trip into the city centre (around 10-15mins depending on traffic) to change those rupees back into USD for me. Bril...

Ajantha and his family made me feel so welcome. They helped me arrange tours and served delicious breakfast and dinner upon request. The rooms are extremely clean and spacious. The common area and balcony are fantastic and have beautiful views. The location is great! Put of the hustle and bustle of the city, but close enough to walk down at any time. I definitely recom...

Just a few minutes walk down a lane to the corner of Kandy Lake. Rooms spacious, if in need of renovation, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. My only negative point is that not only is there no bottled water supplied but they charge double the price of the supermarket.

We sent in Kandy 2 days. Really intensive days:) Nature is quite far from the center so you need to take tuk tuk to reach there. The hosts (couple who live there and take care of the house) are incredible friendly and helpful. They organised one day trip for us around Kandy. It was raining all the time so we were really happy that we could travel in tuk tuk:) Room was ...

It was through Agoda that we found Villa Shenandoah, and based on the previous reviews booked on the spot, as well as the incredible price that was on offer at the time of my booking we were fortunate to secure a nights accommodation. Loved the staff who made our stay a very happy one. From Hiram the front office manager to Ruwan , the bell Boy and Anura my floor house keeping manager and staff were excellent. This was my second and third stay in 12 years. Myself being a hotelier experienced a Very friendly reception and welcome on arrival, Check-in and Luggage services were promt and efficient. We loved this hotel, right in central Kandy, can walk everywhere from it, the hotel has real character and is a period building, it was very clean staff couldn't do enough for you, they brought us a kettle and when it didn't work another, we had dinner in the bar, the food was good and average price, breakfast included in our stay, was cooked to order with fresh orange...

Hotel is clean, staff friendly and helpful. Rooms were new looking and nicer than most in Sri Lanka. Hotel location was a little far to walk from the main lake in kandy but a short 5 min or less tuk tuk ride and you're there. In my opinion it's better to not stay right in the middle of the chaos anyway.

Very friendly helpful staff, specially Rajitha at the reception. Clean quiet rooms. Comfy beds. A reasonably good breakfast buffet. More than anything the calm and tranquil surroundings, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. A little advice- Though the GPS will take you there ultimately, it can direct you through narrow scary tiny roads.

Me and my Sister stayed here in June for 4 nights. When we arrived we discovered we were the only occupants in the hotel due to the recent events in Sri Lanka. The staff made us feel incredibly welcome right from the beginning and could not do enough for us. The room was absolutely beautiful, very clean and stunning views. We did write the names down of the two members...

Dr Nimal and his wife were just superb. Our huge room with views was spotless and our hosts were attentive to all our needs and gave us excellent advice, even procuring the impossible -to - get reserved train seats! Lilith, the tuk tuk driver was on hand to take us wherever, whenever.

Not having been to Kandy before we discovered that the Resort was 28km outside. The view and the chalet were perfect for a quiet stay.It took 45 minutes by tuk tuk to get in to Kandy. The restaurant and food were really good, the staff attentative but always with a smile.Kandy is really busy with traffic so it was great to return to the peace & quiet of the resort. The ...

we were on honeymoon in sri lanka and we spent once 4 nigths and later 3 more nights in this nice hotel.the owner and his wife were really kind.the room was clean, nice and friendly with a bathroom absolutely convenient with hot water.the breakfast was also very good, not the ordinary omlette etc.the staff was also very friendly.we felt ourselves as we were in a family. ...

Sweet Cinnamon Guest House is a hidden oasis a few miles outside of the bustle of Kandy center. The rooms are elegant and inviting. We stayed the first 5 nights in one of their “simpler” rooms, which we thought was lovely. Upon returning to Kandy and again booking with them, we stayed in a room that blew the first away. The custom bathroom had huge windows that looked ...

We stayed in Ashburnham in August for two nights and came away feeling we had a healthy dose of the tea plantation life for not too expensive. Our room, the family suite, was huge, with a separate living room and large bathroom. Furnishings were nice enough, and the staff keep things clean and tidy, though there was a somewhat worn feel, most notably the swimming pool,...

We were given a warm welcome on our arrival by the owners and they were extremely helpful. Arrived on honeymoon from two lovely hotels elsewhere in Sri Lanka. We arrived to find we were the only guests booked in for our 3 nights and awarded an upgrade to the master suite. Room = Wow. This hotel is highly recommended for those, including families, looking for some peace and quiet in a mountain setting. In our case, coming from the Arab Gulf, we were not interested in staying at a beach resort and staying in the city of Kandy also did not appeal to us. We have stayed at several large hotels throughout Sri Lanka for the past 6 weeks and this Boutique Hotel is by far the best. Situated about 10 minutes out of Kandy (no way I would want to stay in Kandy) it was quiet and clean and easy to find on Google Maps. The staff are by far the best asset of the hotel, especially the managers. Nothing was too much trouble for th...

The road around Kandy is tricky and it was difficult to find Kandy House, definitely need additional signs on the road with phone numbers. The landlord family is very welcoming and kind. The house was great, but breakfast was very very poor - tiny omelet, little bread with some fruits place and and 3-in-1 Nescafe cup. Had to go to breakfast in another places.

We were looking for a high end, boutique hotel with outstanding customer service. We got all of this. We only stayed a couple of days and this was about R&R - if you're looking for something lively this isn't for you but if you are looking for somewhere to relax, read a book and enjoy fantastic customer service then this is the place

Two days are fine to reach the general sightseeings in the city. Food is good and many options to fit your stomach.
This was our least favourite city in Sri Lanka - it's hot, very busy and congested with traffic, very few decent places to eat for the size of the city and our visit to the Temple of the Tooth was spoiled by it being so busy and overrun with visitors that it was impossible to enjoy the experience there.
Kandy is a super central location to do short trips or launch your trip to other parts of Sri Lanka. I recommend visiting the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens and the Temple of the Tooth.
Kandy is a nice city with a cool hill-station like climate, ideal for 1-2 days stay, homestays here are very comfortable and worth experiencing, there are places of religious interests and overall a nice place to visit in Sri Lanka
A fun place with lots of variety and set in the mountains where the climate and scenery are agreeable.
Nice city, less chaotic than Colombo. Good shopping in comparison to other areas, decent mall. On the way to, from Kandy there are leather goods shops, good for picking up poufs, chairs, bags etc, haggle for a good price.
overall boring place. nightlife near to zero. you can spend time at botanical garden, kandy lake with Relic temple.
A beautiful city situated around the lake. Has good eateries and bakeries. The Sri Lankan cultural shows in the evening are really very good and depict the history and culture of the country.
Kandy is a nice and clean city compared t the other cities in Sri Lanka. There are plenty of places around for your shopping needs.
We enjoyed Kandy but it is the second largest city in Sri Lanka and the traffic is horrendous. Shopping was nothing special but there are some very good local places to eat.
It was a bit of a disappointment for us. We were expecting more, especially that everyone always rave about Kandy.
Kandy is good for a get away. The weather is ok and there is site seeing in the city as well as just outside of kandy.
Nice green city with a lake in the middle. Sacred tooth relic temple is the main attraction of the city.
Very interesting and lively town with good shopping, pubs and restaurants - Victoria Pub and Restaurant especially good for a meal and a few drinks.
Kandy is an enjoyable place to stay for a couple of days, to see places like the Temple of the Tooth, Tea Museum and so on.
Kandy itself is nothing special. Lots to do outside the city though so I would advise you book a driver or tuk tuk and go and explore.
One must visit a place called Embakka Temple. It has one of the most beautiful wood carvings. A visit to the DaladaMaligawa at 6:00pm when they carry out the night rituals is a very interesting experience.
If you have seen other temples I wouldn't bother coming here unless like us you needed to due to the travel time.
Kandy is so old and charming and civilized. Kandy lake is a divine place to go, and the tooth relic. This city is unforeseeable beautiful.
Kandy gives us a better impression than Colombo because of the great amount of things to do, see or discover.
Famous for the Budhist temple of the tooth Kandy has this stunning temple and lots more including the historic Queen's hotel.
Kandy is very much a busy city, but if you're staying out of the city centre as we were,it was worthwhile stay for the 2 nights we were there.
Very quirky town, nice people, beautiful mix of culture and scenery. However, the concierge at the Queen's hotel wasn't among the nice people we met.
Kandy is a must of you are visiting Sri Lanka. The people are friendly and welcoming. The scenery is amazing.
Peaceful place with nice atmosphere, perfect for relax and some sightseeing. Nothing special or great around just a nice place to visit.
You should dress your self in proper clothing when visiting temples. There are good places to eat and shop within the Kandy City.
Kandy is too crowded and dirty city however it has various religious sites and culture to be enjoyed
it is a very small town, with the exception of the temple their is not much else that is appealinf for a seasoned traveller.
We planned to make Kandy our base for several weeks, but we just couldn't find much peace, warmth or beauty in Kandy.
God place to park yourself to take sightseeing trips in the area. Pinnawala elephant orphanage is close by.
