This is the best guest house that we have ever stayed in anywhere. The owner, Tommy San is very friendly and helpful. You can see he that he is very thoughtful in all the tiny details of the decoration in the guest house. He makes sure everything goes correctly and suits the guest comfortably. There is also free drinks that you can enjoy after a long day in Kyoto. Will definitely come back again if I visit kyoto in the future.

Location is good enough and there are many restaurants nearby. The room is clean and comfort and the bathroom is so big and nice. The most impressive part was the free drinks. You can even have your free whisky with ice!!!!

Tommy san is really nice and willing to give many advices to help you travel. Bedroom is clean and breakfast also tasty. But I stayed multi-person rooms, so it’s little hard to stay all relaxed.

Great reviews, but those refer to Tommy, not the facilities”
We booked a 4 night stay around NYE, mainly based on the great reviews. I guess we were a bit naive, but as the price was over 125 euros a night, in combination with the reviews, we had other expectations than what we experienced in reality. Pros: Tommy is a really nice guy, and does his best to make sure your stay is an enjoyable one. Laundry is for free, location is near a station, the (alcoholic) beverages are for free, the place is very clean, one of the bathrooms has a bath and the place has a kitchen you can use. The cons: we booked the private bunk bed room which had hardly any room for our suitcases, towels kept running out, breakfast was the same each day: an omelet with two slices of bread and a cup of coffee or tea, no table to sit at for eating, the lounge room has only two proper seats and some stools, so if you are with more than 2 people the rest has to sit less comfortable or stay in their own room & staff is not in between 11 and 17. We have seen better and cheaper.

Cleanliness with EXCEPTIONAL Outstanding Service!”
We are so grateful to have checked in to Guest House Oumi during our Kyoto trip. It is within easy reach from the metro and Tommy just did more than is required and really went the extra mile for us. 1st he has make an unusual exception to accept a parcel for me prior to my arrival. 2nd I left a personal belongings in the guest house, Tommy didn't just keep it, what's more he even care to take the trouble to ship to my friend in Japan! I am really moved by his kind gesture! Can't recommend Guest House Oumi highly enough for the outstanding customer service! Tommy is always friendly and ready to help. Thank you Tommysan, definitely hope to see you again when we go back to Kyoto next time. Oh yes, my son still have your little toy by his bed til now, he really likes you! All in all, thank you very much! Dōmo arigatōgozaimashita!

The best of Kyoto ”
Great location and the most welcome I have ever felt at a hostel after travelling over 2 years, all of the staff were amazing from the minute I arrived, the guest house itself is modern, extremely clean and very comfortable. The beds in the 4 bed dorm have a curtain for privacy and a power point/USB port so it is perfect to rest after a long day exploring all Kyoto has to offer. Tommy is an amazing and truely kind person who went above and beyond with myself and all the other guests to make sure our stay in Kyoto was a memorable one. I will definitely be returning here when I come back to Kyoto, truely amazing staff and a peaceful and fun hostel. Also free breakfast, great showers, free tea and coffee, large secure lockers and all the help you need for booking trips or a bicycle and finding all the best places in Kyoto.

If I could give Guesthouse Oumi 10 stars I would! Tommy and Akemi were so welcoming and the guesthouse is beautiful. The location is a very short walk to the subway and JR station and there are several restaurants and a 100 yen shop close by. Every morning Tommy would ask if we would like any tea and/or toast and was always so accommodating if we needed anything (umbrella...maps...etc). The bathrooms/shower are shared, but there was never any issue with getting in. Also, the place was always spotlessly clean. When...(not if!) I'm in Kyoto again I will be staying at Guesthouse Oumi hands down! :)

Tommy is so nice and caring. He reminds us today's weather when we are going out. He always prepare hot tea and coffee for us especially we came back from cold weather outside. He gives very good recommendations of your trip in kyoto, such as how to get to the scenic spots, which restaurant is good. Also the environment of guest house is very comfortable. I deeply love the view of common room, that is a typical Japanese garden. It really makes you feel relax after a day, also brings you a hopeful morning. MUST COME BACK AGAIN!!!!! For those with JR travel card, ideally located 3 mins walk from Nijo station. The house is not the biggest, but Tommy-san makes it for all guests to enjoy an unforgettable perfect experience. He will advise, explain, tell you the best way to enjoy your stay in Kyoto. The guest house is very clean. My bed was very comfortable. And in the morning Tommy-san is there preparing some toasts and coffe/tea for you. Brilliant experience.

Perfect stay”
Tommy's place was nearby the train station. We arrived late at his place, and when we entered his abode surely you will feel very at home and welcomed. Tommy briefed us before he let us into the room. It was a traditional Japanese home which he personally renovated with his friends. Everything was clean, and our room felt very comfortable. You have to be careful though in going down or up the stairs because it is a little bit inclined, but I am not complaining. Everything there was just so well taken care of. Also, he will advise you on the places to go in the vicinity, and definitely the Sushi place was good. I highly recommend Tommy's place if you are going to stay in Kyoto.

Design of the house and room was awesome. Great location, just a few minutes walk frm the Nijo Stn. Tommy and Akemi were very friendly and considerate! The atmosphere was warm and caring as at home. Will recommend and come back for my next kyoto trip!

This was a great hostel mostly due to the hospitality of the host Tommy. He goes out of his way to make your stay feel like home. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a simple place near Kyoto.
