Exceptional”
Shambala Hotel is a luxury hotel for Kathmandu. It is located around embassies (US, India), so quite far from point of interests for tourists (Thamel, Durbar Square). A free shuttle service takes you every morning to city center :) Roof top is THE asset of this hotel. Swimming pool and city view are amazing! Our Executive Room is very lush. It is spacious, all equipment are working. Bathroom is large and bathtub is ok (hot water available, not filtered though which makes it a bit unclear). Staff is really welcoming, professional, attentive and discreet. Attached restaurant provides high quality food for Kathmandu. Still, this remains expensive for the city. Roof top bar is very nice too. We highly recommend this hotel for tourists not on a budget trip.

An real gem, an oasis in Kathmandu”
spent 2 nights there after arriving in Kathmandu, then after 2 nights in Nagarkot hilltop village came back to Shambala. By far the best hotel I stayed in while in Nepal. Breakfast was 1st class as was the staff,also comfortable clean room. After returning from walking around the chaotic streets it was so nice to have a relaxing massage in the Spa followed by dinner in the hotel restaurant. The reception staff helped me to arrange a flight over the Himalayas and the magnificent Mt. Everest for a never to be forgotten experience. Will recommend Shambala to all my friends.

Infinity pool at Shambala stood out”
I stayed one night at Kathmandu at the Shambala with my 7 yr old kid before heading to Pokhara. What I liked - clean rooms with good wallpaper, excellent views of the city from room window, infinity pool with only 3.5 ft depth - worked well for my kid who does not yet know swimming. Amazing views of the city, the mountains and clouds from the infinity pool - one of the best I enjoyed anywhere. Food was of decent quality, hotel staff cooperative. Inside city - easy to take cab and explore important sights like Swambhunath, Boudhinath, Pashupatinath, Durbar square etc. Thoroughly enjoyed Kathmandu staying at Shambala

ROOF TOP POOL IS AMAZING!!!”
After hiking to Everest Base Camp I decided to treat myself and stay at the Hotel Shambala. From the moment I entered the hotel the staff were very pleasant. The room was nice and clean and the bed was very nice. The food in the hotel was amazing and particularly loved the burger!! The roof top pool is absolutely stunning and such a pretty view of the city and also the mountains. Only downside is that it is about 15-20min from the centre of Thamel however they do have a shuttle that runs at 9:30am at no charge but you have to get your own way back. Don't pay more than 500 rupees (often paid around 300) and make sure your taxi knows the hotel location and if not just go to the next one.

We had a lovely stay at hotel Shambala. Great value for money in my opinion. Beautiful interior decor of hotel and great sized standard rooms at a great price. The rooftop pool and views were the best I've seen. Staff were very willing to help but could have been a little more approachable and kinder. Wifi was good for short periods of time but kept cutting out - this needs to be improved as for the price you pay you expect a good 24 hour wifi service. Overall I would definitely recommend to friends and come again! Thank you

Wonderful service by the staff. Personally prefer to eat the food of the location I am in and the menu didn't extend as far into Nepali food as I would like to have. The pool was what drew me to Shambala. And It was almost surreal to swim in that pool, whilst surrounded by the bustle of Kathmandu and the Kathmandu rim.

We stayed here after 8days of trekking before we flew back home. And it was what we just needed. The front desk staff was very friendly and attentive and felt welcomed. All the facilities were very clean and well maintained. Room was amazing with a very comfy bed. Swimming pool on the roof top had a very nice view, and was so good after the trek to just relax. There is a spa within the hotel which we got some massages and was great. Would definitely go back and stay here longer if we visit Kathmandu next time.

The benefits are its value for money, great ambience inside the hotel and super hospitality. The staff is very kind and caring. My 1.5 yr old got slightly ill and the staff showed great empathy and care and were ready to help their best. The only drawback is probably that it has no views and slightly away from all major attractions. But then again, i don't think main Kathmandu has any beautiful views as such that a hotel can capture. PS: Their strawberry yogurt is to die for :)

Really nice stay here for two nights, rooms are quite small but really comfortable and clean. The hotel is a really good retreat from the chaotic Kathmandu. The only drawback is the location is a bit off from all the tourists attraction

Ambience and standard well maintained”
Hotel is situated away from crowded Thamel , Ambience, cleaning are well maintained to standards. There are mainly foreign tourist. Hotel staff are cordial and are looking to perform the best. There are lot of dust in main KTM however Hotel has been well maintained. Can suggest to include more Indian menu (Hence cannot give same score as Hotel Dahlia). I will suggest to use this Hotel if planning for Kathmandu since it has all amenities. Most of the sight seeing etc can be planned by the Hotel staff.

Luxury hotel a little bit away from main sites”
Very new, very clean and very nice hotel with roof swiming pool (a believe only ona in Kathmndu). Good kitchen (local, Indian) and very helpful personnel. Good internet connection (taking Kathmandu). The only disadvantage is location in Northern part of city, for most attractions (Thamel, boudha, ...) you must spent around 4-5 usd and 15-20 minutes in taxi. Nothing in walking distance from hotel.

Perfect place to relax after a long trek.”
3 weeks trekking in the Himalayas was amazing but afterwards some pampering was in order. Location is a bit far from tourist parts of KTM but that's also what we liked about it. For 2 days we just used the hotel amenities, sauna, massage, rooftop patio, restaurant etc...was very nice. Great food and staff was always there ready to help. Hotel was so comfortable and well decorated. We will be back. If you need to go to Thamel area for trekking supplies, go there to shop then taxi back here to relax. Pricey when compared to hotels in Thamel area but really cannot compare them as they are on completely different levels.

I've stayed here several times, and have recommended to others who've also enjoyed it. It's clean, nicely designed, and has a good breakfast. Staff are also very good. The location seems to be most people's issue - it is sort of in a random place. But Kathmandu is hardly walkable anyway, and they help you get taxis, so it was never a problem for me.

I Shall Return”
As promised when I first stayed at this hotel in Aug, I returned to stay for another 2 days in September. Not only the hotel remains as good as before, there is improvement. The internet connection is better with a 72 hours vouchers instead of the 24 hours voucher which means, you have to re-log into the internet after midnight. It is irritating because either you have to go to the check in counter at the stroke of midnight or first thing in the morning. This 3 day voucher is more user friendly. Traffic at Bansari and Ring Road junction leading to the hotel is very congested. This is something you have to cater for extra time when getting in and out of the hotel. Something the hotel may not be able to control or improve.

We love this hotel so much! this is our third visit. We love it so much we had to bring our friends here during their visit from California. They loved the views and thought the staff was very friendly. The spa is very relaxing, and the food is great, I do wish there was a bit more of a selection with their cocktail menu though.
