Exceptional stay, had a great time!”

From start to finish, all the staff was very helpful and kind, very patient and attentive. The kaiseki dinner was exceptionally good, the traditional multiple course dinner was so beautiful and elegant and highlighted the ingredients so wonderfully. We got a room in the Annex with a private bath and I wanted to stay in the bath FOREVER. It's not big but it fit me and my husband comfortably. The view from the bath was lovely and so relaxing. There is a shower in the suite as well as a toilet (I was worried about that, reading the other reviews). The futons were so warm and so comfortable. The maid also put a heater at the foot of the futon so my feet were toasty warm all night! Haven't slept so well in a long time. It is a beautiful get away, and when I come back to Japan, would definitely book this ryokan again! Wish I could stay forever!

    Amazing experience!”

Its our first time to japan and first time staying at ryokan, but this place has not fail us and gave us a memorable ryokan experience. We were greeted warmly by the staffs even though we can only communicate in simple english but it is good enough to cater to our needs. It has scenic views and ambience was surreal and refreshing with fresh air :) We stayed in the traditional tatami room and had kaiseki dinner .. it was really enjoyable and our pleasure to savour each dish and with the english menu it helps us to understand what ingredient were prepared and we are able to appreciate the dishes even more. the public bathroom and room were very cleab and tidy. In overall recommend to book with meals and will plan to come back again!

    Simply Lovely 😊 ”

Momijiya is absolutely wonderful. I visited in February. It’s definitely more for couples than a couple of friends traveling in Japan, but I had an awesome experience regardless. The location is beautiful and remote, up a windy mountain road and the hotel is nestled into a river with a really cool suspension bridge. The Kaiseki dinner and breakfast was an incredible experience (first time for me). The staff was so Warm and friendly, they took care of every detail; shuttle to and from Kyoto, adding foot warmers to the beds at night. I would love to come back here in the late spring when everything’s is in bloom or in the fall with the leaf colors.

    Unbelievable Experience”

This is one of the greatest places I’ve ever been in my life. It’s a bit outside of downtown kyoto and up in a beautiful wooded area. It’s pin-drop quiet and serene. The inn is in flawless condition and you are met with incredible hospitality from check in to check out. The onsen is a must. We opted to rent the private onsen for ~2200 yen and it was absolutely worth it. The meals you are served are delicious traditional Japanese dishes. This was a once in a lifetime experience that I would encourage everyone to partake in.

The stay was very refreshing. From the moment they picked us up, checking in (was a breeze), to the rooms and checking out, they made sure all our needs were taken care of and assisted us with the luggage as well. The food was a delight! And the rooms were fully equipped with all the amenities required, even cleasning oil, toner and moisturizer. Worth for the price !

I can't recommend this place enough”

We spent hours researching different Ryokans in Kyoto and chose this one because of the beautiful remote location and private outdoor bath. I am so glad that we went with this one. There are no words for how beautiful the location of this Ryokan is. It's remote, but getting there was super easy with the shuttle they provide. The service was also amazing, they made us feel so special and it was truly a unique experience staying here. I'd love to go back.

We have had an pleasant night in this hot-spring hotel. The staff are considerate and always cheerful. Even if it was a rainy day, they even helped to brush your shoes and luggage tires . The food was delicately presented and good in flavour. Momijiya is located next to a river with a breathtaking view. All the things here are just impressively wonderful.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay. They're all perfect from pick-up until farewell. Probably 1 thing I observed that the man in front desk (the manager, perhaps), only smile to western tourist. It didn't ruin the serenity in this place however. All of the other staffs were very polite and welcome. Recommended stay!

My favourite experience in Japan! ”

This was amazing, everything from the private onsen to the kaiseki dinner, and hiking trails near by, were perfect. By far our favourite experience in Japan! Rooms are small and very old fashioned, it really makes you feel like you stepped back in time.

great staff and really nice place ”

we drove there and the place is very hard to find since there are not many signs showing how to drive there. also, no much lights along the road so it is kinda dangerous to drive there at night. the ryokan is located at a very isolated area so it is very quiet and with fresh air. no convenience store nearby so if you feel hungry in the middle of the night, you cant get any food nearby. its better to get some snacks before going back to the ryokan. they provide high quality breakfast and dinner every day. their menu is also different every day and the food is good value for money. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends if they want to experience some authentic japanese traditional ryokan stay in kyoto.

Highly recommended for a romantic hideaway”

First time in japan and staying in a ryokan and this certainly met all my expectations on how I imagined it would be! Definitely recommend to get the dinner and breakfast included and choose the room with the outdoor hot tub - it’s an out of this world experience dipping in the hot tub under the cool autumn sky (esp in the night!). Location can be a little inaccessible as it’s perched up in the mountain but that’s part of the beauty of the location - secluded and exotic with a beautiful suspension bridge at the entrance. Service and food is delightful and if you are looking for an exotic ryokan experience to spend some quality time with your loved ones, this is a great option!

    Value for money”

The location is abit far off from the main streets. Glad that the ryokan provide a shuttle service picking you up from the nearest JR station. The place is beautiful & clean. If you are going for a night stay and wanna pack light, the ryokan provides basic amenities and skincare such as facial cleanser and lotion. The food was fantastic as well. Will visit there again

    A wonderful experience!”

If you have a car, or are able to coordinate a ride in advance, it would be an easy place to visit. I took a JR Bus all the way into town and the staff found us at the bus stop to take up the last few kms. The staff was amazing and the food was wonderful. I slept so well. I wish I had stayed an extra day as it would have been nice to be able to see more of the property and god down to the river. The views were absolutely gorgeous. The sound of the river is so calming.

Great place but communication was difficult, over charged at the end”

We were sent an instruction (which was told outdated) by agoda that the pick up time was 3:30,4:30 and 5:30. We waited by the Hanazono train station at 5:20 and waited for 45 minutes, calling the facility a few times in the meantime, but was difficult to communicated. It turned out that last pickup was 5:10 not 5:30. We ended up taking a taxi to the hotel and it cost us 28 USD. The hotel comp'ed us at the end which was a very nice gesture. The ryokan experience was fantastic and memorable. The staff is really nice although we could not really communicate other than basics with much body gesture. The place itself needs some update. The furnishings inside the room were showing obvious signs of wear and tear. But the cleaness and the beautiful surrounding made up for it. We have two kids (6 & 8) and were told in an email in advance by Agoda that the kids would be charged 7000 JPY, but we were charged 12,000 JPY for each child. We argued but difficult due to language barrier.

We requested halal option (no meat, no mirin etc) for dinner and they were very accomodating. We got to converse with the meiko and saw some fireflies. The ryokan was very traditional and surrounded by maple trees

Best bang for the buck Ryoken. Hidden gem”

Location was up in the mountains about 15 mins away from Kyoto City center. It was a magical experience. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. They offered a free shuttle from one of the JR stations at specific times every day. I haven't experienced other Ryokens but this one exceeded my expectations. The room includes a Japanese traditional dinner AND breakfast. The room we got had a private bath looking out to the trees. You really can't beat the view. Highly recommended!
