Lovely Vacation House with Friendly Service”
I have read all the comments about My Chew Jetty and agree that this vacation home is unique with its traditional living environment and.. rusty bathroom So, I was not too surprised when I got there. The house and room was clean and comfortable, the environment was nice. People were friendly and helpful, so did the Chew family. I had some conversations with Mrs Chew in Chinese and also with Siu Ping. Siu Ping was especially helpful and sweet for arranging us the airport transfer and telling me information about bus to Genting (she had greeted and corresponded with me through emails even before my dad and I went for Penang). Oh and the seaside view from the house was magnificent - very recommended. We enjoy our stay in Penang thanks to the Chew family and Penang people's friendliness.

Super unique place to stay - loved it!”
My friend and I loved everything about My Chew Jetty Vacation Home. It was great to explore the jetty and the food market across the street had amazing street food. The beds were comfortable and the Chew family is super friendly and helpful with whatever your needs are. If you are not comfortable with a rustic, shared bathroom facility, this is not the place for you, however. But if you are ok with that, you should seriously consider this one-of-a-kind hot experience.

Awesome and unique experience”
My Chew Jetty is a really unique place to stay in the home of a Chinese Immigrant family living right out on the jetty in Penang. The accommodations are pretty simple and basic, but being able to sit out on the side porch and drink a cold beer while watching the sun over the water set was fantastic. Additionally, Siew (the owners' daughter) was one of the kindest people I have ever met - after the taxi driver dropped me off at My Chew Jetty, he went on to take my parents to the hotel where they would be staying in Penang. A little while later, my parents called because the driver (who was not from Penang) was completely lost and could not find their hotel. Siew offered to speak to the driver over the phone to give him directions, but after hanging up said that she could tell he was hopelessly lost and would never get to the hotel...and to our surprise, she just grabbed her helmet and said that she was going to drive over to meet him and guide him to the hotel herself on her motor bike! She told us it would be no problem, and invited us to relax on the porch and enjoy ourselves. Definitely recommend that everyone stay a night at My Chew Jetty with this wonderful family during any visit to Penang!

the chew jetty is one of the must-see spot in penang - so why not spend a few days with the locals there and know more about their life? chew jetty homestay offers an unforgettable experience to my friend and i. we stayed for 2 nights and had great fun living with the host family. the hostess is most knowledgeable about all the tourist spots & local attractions in penang, we took her advises on planning our itinerary and everything she recommended was only better than we had expected. no matter you are a solo backpacker, a couple or a family, chew jetty will become a highlight for your tour.

Our humble address of the day, a wooden house right above the sea, within one of the earliest settlement known as Chew Jetty in Penang, since 1880. Even the late Anthony Bourdain was here. Ernest Zacharevic was here for dinner and completing his street arts. We skip the clan jetties sightseeing this time because we are among the attraction of the day. Sitting on the sea verandah over looking the Strait of Melaka. Experiencing the life as the Chew Clan in their traditional jetty wooden house. Host by the ever friendly and warm, Ms. Siew Pheng and Papa Chew. Great catchup with the Chew family and their generosity, unlimited snacks, fruits, drinks, etc. Truly amazing. Most travellers here as a pilgrimage to seek the experience as a journey of life, left not only footprints but a memorable memories.

It feels like home”
I feel like home, feels like my grandma's home. It's a good getaway from skyscraper, and back to basic. I'm not sure if you would like to sit at the patio, enjoying the sea breeze. I'm not sure if you would like the sounds of the ocean lullaby you to sleep. I'm not sure if you would like to wake up in the morning, seeing the sunrise at the other end of the world. But,if all these were what you are looking for, then, My Chew Jetty Homestay, is definitely your choice. Besides, bus station is just a few minutes walk from the homestay. It's convenient to take buses to travel around the city or even to Penang Hill. The owner is friendly and helpful, where she'll provide Penang map and give suggestions to your itinerary. I'll definitely go back and visit my 2nd. home soon.

A Great Experience”
Staying at the Chew Jetty Home Stay was probably the best part of the whole trip. Ms. Chew is a great hostess and takes good care of you. The room we stayed in was very nice and sitting on their small balcony, watching life on Chew Jetty was a lot of fun. You are right across the street from one of the best hawker malls (food markets) on the whole island. You are right in Georgetown and very near the ferries and bus stop. Highly recommended!

Great hospitality and magic!”
after booking from agoda we received confirmation from ms. chew in email and besides a very sweet email advising how to get there with various options, attached also a map and things to do in penang, bus routes, it is already beyond expectations before arriving. she further ask us what time we will arrive and her phone number in case of anything as we are arriving quite late abt 10 pm. when we get there, the walk to the place was in an old wooden jetty lighted with red lanterns and to left and right were locals goin about their life, open windows and doors. we were received very well and briefed how to work things in the homestay. ms. chew then called in and have a chat even! the place is basic, but clean and thoughtful. the view is amazing... speechless. we regret only having to stay so short as we leave early to langkawi. eateries around the place is abundant, and easy 1km walk to swettenham pier. if you dont mind a night of no aircon which may be difficult the first night, it is much worth it. the toilet is clean but may need some work. my partner thanked me for this booking and gave me a 10/10 points which i send back to mychew jetty homestay.

Immediately after booking through Agoda we received a personalized email from the hosts at My Chew Jetty welcoming us and offering assistance and information on location. Upon arriving the host greeted us with maps and info about things to do and places to eat. Rooms are simple and clean with adequate room for luggage storage. Good internet connections. Coffee, tea, water, toast and jam were available. The only downside is only one very rustic bathroom which was a bit tricky at times since the home was full of guests. But, the warmth and peaceful surroundings made up for that.

Lovely family to stay with”
I was welcomed from the minute I arrived and made to feel right at home. The history of My Chew Jetty is amazing and all the people I met there were really helpful sharing a lot of information about its history. II loved the experience of staying there especially with The Chew Family. Thankyou especially to Siew and Lee. I really recommend staying here it is something different away from the hotel scene and will be a good memory to keep. Great food court opposite. Try out the Kaya Buns near coffee shop opposite.

Unique and great experience”
The host(Mrs Chew) was really friendly and hospitable. Make you feel at home immediately :) the house has a little balcony corner that oversees the sea and able to watch the beautiful sunrise. It was indeed a wonderful experience of living In such kampong. Location was great many good food around and is also nearby the main area where all the street art were. A shopping mall is also nearby(first avenue) where you can get more entertainment like kbox and movie and some shopping. Especially love the locals there at chew jetty. Always smiling and ever so genuine. We left with a heavy heart cause we gonna miss them. Strongly recommend to someone who are open to having a different experience. May not be the most physically comfortable environment but def Smth much different and what other hotels cannot offer. Looking forward to stay here again!

Authentic Homestay, Superb Location, Great Value”
We arrived the guesthouse when the owner was out, so we called her up and waited 10 minutes. We were not really waiting as we were seeing things around. We had a room with twin bed and one mattress for the kid, room was air conditioned, and very well maintained, though the guesthouse (which was originally a residence of the owner) has been around for more than 100 years! The guesthouse is at the heart of Chew clan jetty, with offers superb view of Penang straits and Penang bridge at night. Room was good, there were some food and drink for the guest if you are hungry. There is also a well-equipped kitchen if you want to cook. Washing machine is also available. Pretty much anything you can ask for is available, in a simple guesthouse. Great penang local food is within walking distance, as well as famous Penang street drawings. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED!

Chew Jetty Vocation Home can let me feel like home, the sisters are very kind. Its very convience, because from the airport to the chew jetty home, you can take the bus and get off on the last stop. Also, you can enjoy the great sunrise view in chew jetty vocation home, so you can wake up very late and still can see the sunrise. The only bad thing is there were mosquitor bite at night.

We stayed at My Chew Jetty Homestay and it was a wonderful experience. Located on the Jetty, Mr. Xiu Ping does a great job of hosting guests in this historic and humble property. There are always snacks and fruits available and he is so kind — especially so if you can speak Chinese. While it may not be the place for luxury or pampering or multilingual travel itinerary planning it is truly a memorable experience to be in the center of the Jetty and you get a great cultural experience. I will remember fondly sitting on the dockside porch watching the sea with an orange watching the world go by.

Friendly host and near to jetty”
We are just looking for a place to settle down before we depart to Star Cruise. My Chew Jetty is quite near to the ferry jetty, about 5-10min walk. We stayed here for a night. The host is very friendly, always asking we feel ok and comfortable. Basically this place is feeling like staying at our own home - coffee and tea available, books and magazines in bed room as well as living room and so on. Generally, we are quite satisfied with our stay except we feel hot during the night cause we took superior room with fan.

Unique experience”
We stayed 3 Nights at Chew Jetty. They have just e rooms we had one with Aircon. The room was big enough for two with some luggage. The Owner was soo kind. She even wrote us on Whatsapp what time we would arrive and gave us some directions. Its easy to get there about 15 min Walk from the jetty where the ferry arrives. Sleeping above the water was really nice. At low tide a bit smelly but not disgusting at all. Funny to see all the tourists stepping by. At the Chew Jetty you feel very save because its on a pier and the people living there are all from the same family.

Friendly and Charming”
Back to Basics. But worth a stay for at least one night. To experience the charm of a different culture and be welcomed into their homes, was one I will not forget and was a pleasure. Very friendly family. The daughter speaks really good English. The rest of the family do not, but are equally as friendly. I have been on the island for five days in another hotel, but after reading reviews decided I wanted to experience Chew Jetty before I left. The location is ideal with the peir and famous Chuilia street right by. This is a must to experience some of the oldest culture on the island.

A home on the water ”
There is no words for this place, it's breathtaking. Chew Jetty felt like a home during my half year trip. I would definitely come back anytime, close to food corner and the Georgetown city Centre. I loved it!!!

Great location with basic accommodations”
my chew jetty homestay is right in the thick of things. we found it incredibly convenient for just about everything we wanted to do. there were plenty of food stalls and a hawkers' centre across the street and a short walk would get us into an indian neighborhood, off to see the colonial architecture or to see the famous murals of penang. hope on the free bus and end up in markets or up at the komtar mall. but the real value of this homestay is in the history of the jetty and the chew family. the accommodations are very basic - as others have noted, the toilet is a pretty 'old school' hole in the floor to the water below - there is no fancy decor, the tide can bring in some unpleasant smells, and the neighbours can be noisy as they go about their lives. but that's just it. we felt privileged to be a part of the jetty community, if only for a couple of days because this sort of life is probably not going to be around much longer. we wanted our children to have a non-hotel experience and that's exactly what we got. the rooms were simple and clean and the a/c was very welcome after a day of hot and humid sightseeing. i would not recommend this homestay to anyone who has delicate sensibilities. this is life on the jetty in all its smelly, noisy fabulousness.

peaceful and lovely hotel”
The hotel is located on the chew jetty, very peaceful and with a truly warm welcome from the hostess. The hostess provided us with Cendol and red bean with milk on the first night of our arrival, and told us which place to eat and go in Georgetown, which was very helpful during the days we stayed there. Besides, although the hotel is a little simple, we enjoy the special experience of traditional house a lot, especially when sitting on the chairs outside and feeling the peaceful night there.
