Excellent Onsen”
We booked Superior Japanese-Style Room with Private Open-Air Bath. The Onsen is wonderful, quiet and comfy. Breakfast and Dinner are superb. Satsuki Bessou Ryokan is definitely my choice for my next trip to Kumamoto.

The place is rather secluded and 1 Shinkansen stop from Kumamoto + 5min taxi. Would be better to drive. Recommended to get the JR pass. The town isn't as happening as the bigger cities; it gets quiet by 8. If you are ok with the transportation then it should be fine! :D The staff there aren't as fluent in English as other places. You might need someone who can converse in Japanese to get certain arrangements done. Otherwise, they are so so very helpful! The place gets rather crowded with local Japanese on weekend getaways. Onsen is nice and hot when I went! Alot of ramen in the neighbourhood as well! The ryokan does provide a feast for breakfast and dinner (I didn't need lunch). Room was nice and spacious! Be sure to check that your doors are locked, the staff do open them for ventilation I think? If your room is standalone you will need to walk in rather uncomfortable clogs to get there, just for a short while. Other than that I think the experience there was amazing!

great ryokan but far away”
This place is far from kumamoto. Luckily we hired a car from fukuoka and drove to this place, (as we were doing road trip around kyushu island) otherwise i am not sure who to get to this hotel without a car. But it's the perfect ryokan experience. We recommend you choose the dinner and breakfast set, as the ryokan is secluded and there are not many other eating options around (if you don't have a car). 1 night stay was enough for us. Check out is at 10am but we booked a 2nd night so we can check out at 2pm. it was worth it to check out late, and use the fabulous onsen. There is private onsen you can pay 1200 yen to use privately for 50 minutes which is worth it. the public onsen was also great. If you come before 9am, there is no one and you can have the whole place to yourself.

This place is beautiful, traditional ryokan . Staffs are helpful and so welcoming to us. Dinner and breakfast are amazing! So many! make us feel so super full lol😂 But the best part for us is the onzen,the outdoor onzen✨sooo wonderful and the bath products in high quality such as shampoo,bath cream,lotion,..etc. also the foot massage machine in front of the onzen. And when you leave they would be sending,bowing and waving for us until we couldn’t see the ryokan. This is so special!💕 if we have a chance to visit Kyushu again we definitely would love to come here again🥰

Nice enough hotel but location not great. ”
The hotel was nice, I stayed in a room with own bath and it was quite large, would have easily for a couple Or small group and the public onsen were lovely but the area is a very small sort of industrial area. I had to get Shinkansen to kumamoto just to get cash as only a few ATM's and would not accept overseas cards. If you speak a little Japanese it might be easier but if not, suggest a larger area like Kumamoto.

Great food and excellent onsen. The onsen is so nice with indoor and outdoor. The temperature is good and they have one hot and one super hot onsen. The hotel has only 18 rooms so you will not be pack with lots of people.

We stay in the private onsen room for 1 night, love it so relax. Walk into some local restaurant very good service and great value. Not much to do in that area, but very relaxing

Dated and overpriced”
The rooms needed to be updated and cleanliness was not up to standard, at least not for the price I paid for. Please note that if you get the suite with onsen in the room, you will need to pay extra onsen charges per day. Nevertheless, staff were friendly and breakfast was scrumptious.

Breakfast and Dinner were awesome! I have never tasted such fresh tofu, chawanmashi, etc! However, the rooms maybe need a facelift as they were rather old. Onsen facilities were fantastic also. Overall, we were satisfied with our stay.

サプライズできない宿”
子供の誕生日でサプライズケーキをお願いした所、夕食終了後にデザート時にお願いしていた所、持ってきたら箱入れっぱなし、ろうそく箱についたまま、演出全くなし。 サービス業ではない。やはり民宿だった。 子供へのサプライズもなし。1年の楽しみをふみにじられた。 予約時の写真もだましている。 予約する時の写真に食事の写真を掲示しており、食事がついているように見せかけている。 食事は全く朝もついておらず、追加で注文したが大した事ない。クリームコロッケがメイン種目としているようで今どき民宿でも出さないメニューだ。 離れの部屋でスイートと言っているが全くスイートではない。隣部屋の定期的振動や声が聞こえる。 カップルが隣部屋だとバツが悪い。 部屋には檜うち風呂があるが長方形で一人しか入れず部屋内部でせまく全然癒されない。 スイートと虚偽記載しており正しく表示するべきだ。 支払い方法も到着時に現金のみだと言われた。 今どき20万近い金額で現金支払いだけとか言うホテルでは無い。あり得ない対応だった。 カード支払いしかしないと伝えると対応したが、気が弱い人は会計時現金で支払いをしていた。 全てにおいて不満の民宿だった。 二度と泊まりたくない最悪の宿。
