Lovely setting, relaxing onsen, great staff”
Our stay at the Sunriver Oboke Hotel was fantastic! The staff were super welcoming and friendly. They went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of. Our room was traditional Japanese, large yet cozy. Even though the room said it was shared bath, we had our own toilet and 2 sinks. The only thing shared were the showers which were in the lovely onsen with indoor tub, outdoor tub, cold tub, and sauna. The scenery of the canyons was also pretty unbeatable. Loved it!

Great Hot Spring and Nature”
The high floor onsen (hot spring) room, indoor and outdoor, are great with great mountain views. If you want to in the middle of great nature this hotel is for you. All you have to do is walk out the door. They also have friendly free shuttle service offered three times every morning to nice locations down the river gorge road, which is really nice since public buses are few and far between.

Outstanding service ”
The staff at the hotel went out of their way to ensure we got the room we wanted, as I had stressed that we wanted a Non smoking room. The hotel has an excellent location by Oboke gorge. The food in the restaurants for both breakfast and dinner was outstanding , especially the choice and quality of food at the breakfast buffet. The free e bikes were also very helpful for getting around. Highly tecommended.

Best onsen and view in Shikoku island”
I love this place because Iya valley itself if not as crowded as other larger touristy cities. The hotel onsen and breakfast restaurant has good view, go there in the day!

Good location for discovering the area”
Wonderful onsen and opulent and delicious dinner set (make sure you arrive hungry). If you are a non-smoker, make sure to specify that in your reservation as by default you will get a smoking room. Luckily it was no problem to change so they gave me an even larger non- smoking Japanese style room.

A good location and nice view private hot spring in room”
The location is good and provide free parking for hotel guest. The meals is just so so, if your package is not come with meal sets, not really recommend to buy separately. If your package don’t comes with meals you can get the food from Lawson which around 1-2 mins drive from hotel. Hotel staff is helpful and friendly. You have to drop off your room keys to front desk if you out for sight seeing. Hotel door will be closed at 10pm so remember to go back in time XD.

The location is perfect for exploring Oboke Gorge and there are plenty of activities for the whole family nearby. When we visited, the onsen was crowded as most rooms don‘t have a private bathroom. I liked the outside onsen as it has a great view over the mountains, however, it‘s very small. The whole hotel seemed a bit dirty in places with peeling wallpaper, stained carpet and lots of fingerprints all over the elevator not just from that day. The overall feeling we got was not so great. It has a lot of potential though due to it‘s location and I hope they‘ll renovate it to give it a fresh and attractive feel for the future. Also, we couldn‘t find any restaurants open for dinner nearby and ate at Lawson (convenience store) as the hotel needs to know a few days in advance if you want to eat there and we booked it only a day in advance.

Everything's decent except for 1 thing”
Everything's satisfactory except that there were flies (some dead) in the Japanese style tatami room I stayed at, which when I wrote an email after to the hotel, they replied for awhile and stopped, leaving the issue hanging in the air. Dinner is very good though, one of key things I remember about this hotel. Staff were courteous as well.

Right choice”
I have looked up almost all hotels in Okobe side and Iya Valley side and consider this one moderately priced with reasonably good review. This has proven a right choice. The hotel is located near a train station and more accessible than most other hotels for those who drive. The river in the Oboke / Koboke is very close to the hotel and the water level is high offering a more lively scene while hotels located near the Iya Valley will only see a river almost completely dry. The onsen provides normal indoor and outdoor pool, a whirlpool, a sauna and a cold water pool, which represents most elements that I would hope for. Food is considered 3 stars not outstanding. One note for other visitors choosing dinner package. Unlike some reviews which mentioned bento only, ours are multi courses dinner. As most half board bookings do not differentiate the two, it is advisable to write to the hotel to clarify after booking to save for disappointment. Email response was reasonably quick.

This is one of the best hotels that I've stayed at. Contrary to the information provided on Agoda, there is free WIFI accessible in all rooms (though not always strong, but it sufficed my need for the internet). My room came with a toilet and sink. To shower, I had to travel to the other wing of the building for the shared onsen (which was fantastic) I booked Breakfast & Dinner with the room and I'm so glad I did that. On days when the hotel is fully booked, breakfast is buffet-style. The dinner was quite marvelous with about 10 courses and they differ for the 3 dinners that I had. The hotel staff provided free shuttle service to Oboke Station.

Best hotel available within distance to Iya Valley”
Booked a Twin room for 2 nights to tour Iya Valley in Apr. Arrived at Oboke station & station staff kindly help us call hotel for shuttle service. (We arranged with Hotel on our arrival time via JR but somehow, no shuttle show up) Shuttle service staff was extremely helpful, he helped put our luggage into the van and when i told him i needed to leave due to a medical emergency, he helped Google for the JR and flight info to and from the nearest international airport in Osaka. He even print out the info and ran thru the details with me! Full marks for service. The reason i gave 4/5 stars is becoz another female staff subsequently came to tell us that there is no refund or discount for our room even thou i am leaving earlier while my sister stays on. (We didn't even ask for a discount, i was jus in a hurry to leave as soon as i reach due to personal emergency) My sister rented a car to get around the sights near and within the valley. totally worth the extra spent on car rental!

Location is not good but you can call the hotel when you at the Oboke station, they will drive for you. Staff can speak very good English and Nice. And the view is very good. But the public transport near the hotel is very poor, you need to wait over an hour to wait for a bus.
