Prince Karuizawa type A room 3rd floor”
We visited Karuizawa during winter in early January 2019. Got type A room 3rd floor overlooking the lake in the Prince. The view is stunning like a postcard. We arrived by shinkansen from Tokyo, only an hour and 15 minutes. We dropped our luggage at the hotel concierge in the nearby Premium outlet just outside the train station, really convenient that we could continue to shop without lugging those luggage. The luggage were already in our room when we arrived at the hotel. We used the hotel shuttle bus at the bus stop in the premium outlet. No hussle, you just need to know the correct bus colour for your need and arrive at the bus stop before the departure time. They are as always in Japan, very punctual. The room in the Prince is really huge and comfortable. Although we can tell that its an older hotel but really well maintained and spotlessly cleaned. Complete amenities (thet even provide a really nice body lotion) and they provide bath rope, yukata and a really nice pyjamas. They offer many venue for breakfast including you can also enjoy buffet at the west and east hotel. Breakfast in the Prince is what i called a pretty breakfast, a la carte with a set meal (salad, yoghurt, eggs, croissant, coffee or tea) if you are used to a buffet, you may find the pretty breakfast not so fulfilling. It is overlooking the lake for you to enjoy while calmly eating your breakfast. If you opt for more option at breakfast, you can also enjoy buffet at the west or east by shuttle bus. The Prince has their own ski and snow park, which you can enjoy just using their shuttle bus. Overall, we trully enjoy our stay.

Relaxing and Romantic”
We really enjoyed our stay here. Convenient that there are free shuttle buses to and from the hotel (to the train station, outlet mall, spa-onsen, ski areas). The staff were very friendly and professional. The room was big and the beds were very comfy. Not the newest rooms, but they had everything we needed. Nice view also, especially during breakfast. Best to go early during breakfast (sit-down not buffet, but the cutlery was very nice and the service felt very professional) so you can have seats facing the lake and mountain. The fireplace was a unique experience for us. Log-cabin feels. All in all a great time!

A very beautiful hotel in a scenic location, with excellent servuce and warmth”
The rooms at The Prince were spacious and the beds were big . The pantry and bath were also very spacious, they were the size of the room we had in Tokyo! There was also a big sofa area in front of full length windows which looked out to a small pond, very scenic and we had a great view of trees and the ducks and birds around the pond, right from our room. We had come to look at the sakuras but the weather was still too cold even in second week of April, we saw snow everywhere no sakuras in sight here at Karuizawa yet. The hotel services and amenities were great. I was so thankful that we could leave our heavy luggage at the customer service at the mall / train station, so that we could go and shop. The bags were then delivered to our room before we arrived at the hotel. Equally thankful for the great shuttle bus service that loops the resort, so that we could go to and from the train station, the shops, the hot spring without worry. Do take note of time table though.

Good for self drive”
We were foreigners and rented a car driving from Haneda to Karuizawa. A couple with one young child. The driving was about 4 hours, including the time spent in R&R. Many R&Rs with clean restrooms and nice food court along the journey. The Prince Karuizawa is a big complex with The Prince Karuizawa Hotel, Hotel East, Hotel West, Shopping Plaza, Golf course, skiing resort, etc. We stayed in The Prince Karuizawa Hotel which is at the Golf course area. Pros: - A very quiet and tranquil place. It faces the Golf course with a small lake in front of the room’s full size window. - Room is spacious and has a small kitchenette. Bath tub is very clean. Bath salt and amenities are supplied sufficiently. - Free bicycle rental for both adults & children. The cycling path is nature feel but hotel shuttles may pass by. Therefore need to be cautious. - The breakfast is great. The restaurant inside this hotel building has a fantastic view. Food is good. You can also choose other restaurants in the West or East hotels. - The shopping plaza has many brands and every shop is decorated nicely. The items are trendy. Very good shopping experience there. The food there is also good and price reasonable. - The Onsen is great because it’s very clean and comfortable. It’s not big but very cosy. Water dispenser with hot and cold water for drinking. Our 4 years old daughter loved the hot spring very much. Cons: - However, the Onsen is at the East hotel which is about 6 mins driving. Otherwise you need to take hotel shuttle. In cold weather, it’s not so enjoying to walk that much. - The shopping plaza is also walking distance from the East hotel. The train station is also nearer to the East. Thus I would prefer to stay in the East if there is another time! - We arrived in April. It’s still very cold and the trees are barren. Not greenery at all. Overall, I still like Karuizawa because it has both sceneries, Onsen and shopping but think Summer/Autumn time should be better season there.

The restaurant, room and staff are great. However, the location is not too convenient for Ski. You have to take shuttle bus to Skiing and train station but the shuttle bus is always full. Also there is no hot spring in this hotel so you have to take the shuttle bus to take the bath.

We just stayed for a night to visit Karuizawa. Initially, selected for the Prince brand. Unfortunately the rooms seems a bit old. The view to a small lake and the golf course is nice. The onsen facility is only available at the Easy Hotel, a bit inconvenience to use at night even though they have a shuttle bus service.
