Urban Hotel Kusatsu is very nicely furnished and has comfortable rooms. Their breajfast is very good -Jap and Western mix. Location is very near trains as well. Recommend if need affordable place near Kyoto's tourist spots.

Hotels in Kyoto were well booked when this traveler looked for accommodation, so the Urban Hotel Kusatsu got chosen as it was close enough. The trainride to Kyoto really was a short one and also nearby was Hikone and Lake Biwa, so the location was just fine. This place had everything expected from a ba- sic, good hotel in Japan. Free computer in the lobby for chec- king emails is always good and they offered an inexpensive cup morning-coffee, too.

Nice cozy hotel close to Kusatsu station ”
Nice cozy hotel very close to Kusatsu station on the JR line (So JR pass covers the journey from Kyoto to Kusatsu). Room size is larger than typical (but still small). Slightly old but well maintained rooms. Staff is very helpful. I would surely recommend.

nice and comfortable stay”
stayed here while visiting kyoto. the hotel is actually situated at another city, Kusatsu, which is distance away fr tourist spots. need to plan for transportation cost & time to travel. the hotel is just ~3 min walk fr JR station by main road & very easy to find it. the hotel itself is very comfortable, clean & staff very friendly. the breakfast buffet consisted of japanese & western style good, though lack of variety (every day are same food), but taste very nice.

neat hotel, easy travel distance from kyoto”
easy to find, 18kms out of kyoto. some rapid services to kusatsu. the usual pleasant friendly service. rooms were clean and comfortable. lan in rooms. the restaurant/ bar was closed during the new years holiday, but there were other places close by to go and eat. the inhouse do it yourself laundry is cheap (well by tokyo standards anyway). nice place, would stay again.

This hotel is about 30-40 minutes by train from Kyoto, making the location a little inconvenient if you are not visiting Kusatsu specifically. If you stay here, especially on the weekend and plan to visit Kyoto - make sure you check what time the trains stop running. However, it is located only a few blocks from the station in Kustatsu and you can also get on a train here for Nara, which is another fun day trip and not too far. I mainly stayed here as a solo traveler because hotel prices in Kyoto jumped on the weekend and Kusatsu was still in my price range. They did not have adapters at the front desk.

Clean, Effecient Hotel but with small rooms”
Overall a good hotel in a nice and quite neighbourhood. It would have been even better had the rooms been bigger. Nearness (Just a 3 mins walk) to JR Kusatsu station makes this hotel a good choice for travellers who are new to Japan and on a budget.

Helpful staff, a little far from Kusatsu station”
hotel room is always small in japan, this is no exception. staying in kyoto itself is way too expensive so kusatsu is an alternative - about 30 to 45 minutes train ride from kyoto station but if you have a jr pass, your only cost is loss of time. the odd thing is, the elevator is hidden past the restaurant on 1st floor so you'll think there is no elevator and start dragging your luggage up to level 2 where the lobby is located. they should have put a sign there. it's about 15 minutes walk from the station, could be a killer if it's freezing. lots of little shops along the way from station to hotel so you could grab dinner easily.

Good location but small room”
It is not close to Kyoto , it is located in Kusatsu which is 20 mins from Kyoto by JR train. It is not easy to find from Kusatsu station , I asked so many people and it takes 30 mins for me to fine the hotel. The hotel is located next to a street market , very convenient for eating.

Clean room and breakfast with Japanese choices”
The location is just around 5~10 minutes walk from JR Kusatsu station where there're department stores and supermarkets for shopping and meals. The room is impressively clean. The breakfast is with various Japanese dishes and delicious, however, it'll be crowded and rush when a tourist group take in for breakfast at the same time slot. We were able to take express train (limit stops and w/o reservation) from Kusatsu station directly to Osaka airport - this gave us some advantage to avoid the long waiting line at stage when it stopped at Kyoto station. There're a few Japanese B.B.Q. restaurants as you could tell when walk along the street between hotel and train station - we did not try to find it though.

Reasonable hotel for traveler visiting Kyoto Area”
This hotel is sufficient for someone who is visiting Kyoto Area. It is outside of Kyoto City by about 20 minutes, but is located within 3 minutes of the Kusatsu train station, and easily locatable at night without a map. Rather than wake up in a hotel in Kyoto and not know how to get to your first destination, this hotel offers you the opportunity to commute directly to Kyoto-eki without having to walk much. Trains run regularly - make sure that you check the schedule for departing trains for both directions so that you don't spend too much time at the platform. The room was quiet, clean, and affordable. Ask for a non-smoking room if that is your preference. Hotel staff was helpful. Beware: no wifi, no breakfast, no english tv channels Price was very good after booking on agoda.com

Small hotel so far from Kyoto ”
This hotel is so far from Kyoto. In another city called Kusatsu. No wifi in the room. Only a LAN cable. Has to use wifi in the lobby & they charge an extra ¥100 for that. Room is small. Pillow wasn't good. Takes about one hour to get there by train from the main attraction area Geon or Kawaramachi area. Will cost u about $10 one way means two people return will be $40.

A bit far away from Kyoto. Room is small which can hardly open the baggage but it is tidy, you can find anything you need such as hair dryer, no need to borrow from the front desk. The hotel offered free breakfasts during our stay and taste is good! Would recommend if you don't mind transporting about 25 minutes JR to Kyoto station.
