Jakarta Airport – officially called Soekarno Hatta International Airport – handles more than 30 million travelers a year and is linked to hotels in Central Jakarta via shuttle bus and taxi. In 2010, a new highway opened, providing an alternative route between the airport and West Jakarta that has helped ease severe traffic congestion. Despite this, it is advisable for visitors to avoid traveling during rush hours, and perhaps consider booking a hotel closer to the airport if they are in transit.
There are various eateries and shops in both terminals, and executive lounges are situated in the transit lounge. Several meeting rooms are available for hire at the nearby Sheraton Bandara, which also boasts landscaped gardens, a spa, pool and barbecue cuisine. The Jakarta Airport Hotel is located above the airport’s Arrival Gate in Terminal 2E but there are a variety of hotels located nearby.
Catering mainly to business travelers, many hotels are equipped with blackout curtains for daytime sleepers, massage and business centers and karaoke rooms and offer complimentary shuttle services. Jakarta Airport was designed to resemble the traditional Javanese homes and has beautifully maintained gardens of its own.
A shuttle bus is available between the Domestic and International terminals. Hire cars are available from desks located in the Arrivals areas of both terminals, and chauffeured car hire is available from Golden Bird. Taxis can be booked at counters in the Arrivals areas of the terminals.
