The city is highbrow and lowbrow: Eat at Frank Stitt's fabulous restaurant in Five Points, or at the Green Acres in the old Black Business District 4th Avenue North, but certainly go to the Civil Rights Museum and walk along the march routes taken by Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. and the many black pastors who planned the historic resistance in the 1960s. The Birmingham Museum of Art has a wonderful collection of ceramics of all types. The streets are a little empty on the weekend, but the town is safe and filled with lovely trees.
It's quite a good place to visit. There are lots of attractions both in the city and the surrounding area not far from the city.
It's the Pittsburgh of the south. The nick name of the Alabama state is "The Beautiful" and it's beautiful as its name. Sweet home Alabama.
