Dunedin hotels & places to stay

Excellent location. Well conserved and maintained building both in and outside. We booked in a superior twin for a family of 4. Spacious room with 2 queen's beds were enough to stay in feeling easy. Bathroom was clean. WiFi was strong. Breakfast was very good. I really love the elevator of Worldwar age that was still in good service. I really much appreciate this hotel and will definitely come back again if I have a chance to come to Dunedin again.

50 points for - large, spacious rooms - excellent shower quality - free laundromat (washer and dryer), with laundry powder provided - friendly service, check in was smooth and we were offered fresh milk - unit and linens were clean - cheap, paid $125 per night per room Minus 5 points for - overall age of unit, furnishings etc are old (but it does remind me of my flatting days as a scarfie in Dunedin) - no lifts so if you have lots of luggage you are going to struggle up the stairs with it.

Our stay at Victoria Hotel in Dunedin was as usual absolutley lovely. Very enjoyable, with the most obliging staff where nothing is a problem. When we go to Dunedin the Victoria Hotel is Always our prefered place to stay, as we know that it is always spotless, warm and very comfortable. The Victoria Hotel is situated very close to town and between two major supermarkets, so very convient! It is also a stones throw away from the hospital which makes it excellent if you have someone in there. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Victoria Hotel to any of my friends. Thank You Victoria Hotel for making our stay a wonderful one.

One muddle-headed member of our group came to an awkward realisation that we didn't book our accommodation only on the day we arrived in Dunedin. Our worries were quickly laid to rest when the most accommodating host assisted us by placing us in a bigger room for the night and arranged another beautiful accommodation option just down the street. What's more, after providing us with the bigger room for the night, they let us stay on in the room for the remaining days without any extra charge, even though we booked a smaller and cheaper room previously! How awesome is that? :) The hotel facilities were great. It had a chillout lounge to die for, spacious rooms, the most comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchenette and right at the heart of the city. Everything is simply a stone's throw from the motel - great Irish and Mexican bars, a wide variety of international dining options, shopping malls after shopping malls. If I'm ever back in Dunedin, you can be assured I'll be staying here.

Wish we could have stayed longer. Unfortunately we had limited time with, so much to see and do, in our short holiday around the beautiful South Island of New Zealand. The hotel room was very well equipped. The staff were very friendly and helpful with directions for getting around town. We didn't have time for breakfast but our view of the dining area showed there was plenty of delicious buffet to choose from. We look forward to visiting again and hopefully, a longer stay in Dunedin.

Great location only walking distance from the centre of Dunedin. Owner was very helpful in pointing out the sights to visit in the city and restaurants for meals. Wifi very strong too. Downside was that the rooms whilst clean were quite dated, with very small shower facility and soft bed. Still recommend for value in Dunedin.

I've wanted to see this place for ages, and was glad to see a decent deal, the night I was visiting Dunedin. Would definitely book again This website won't let me post unless I grade the staff. I met no staff. But I did miss out on the email from the owner, telling me the door code. Luckily, he answered the second time I phoned

The hotel was very luxurious and provides a microwave if you need to do some minor cooking. Very convinient location near the city, best hotel in dunedin in my view

We spent one night at Aria on Bank Motel. It was a small but comfortable place with stylish design. The room was well equipped with a kitchen and a bathroom. Everything looked very new and sparkling clean. The only thing I can complaint is that the mattress was too soft and thin, which is not very good for my back. Otherwise it was a perfect experience here. The lady at the front desk was nice and welcoming. She gave us all the details about Dunedin including dining, parking and location to visit. That was extremely helpful to us. I would highly recommend to stay at this motel.

Close to city enabling a short drive to local sights. Adequate 1 bedroom unit with comfortable beds. Good cooking facilities. Hotel had a good amount of literature on things to do and see to the local and regional area. Staff friendly and had helpful advice on sights to see in the area.

This has got to be the Top 2 motels/hotels we stayed at throughout our 14nights in NZ. We paid for the ground floor apartments which were the cheapest. When we checked in, the male host upgraded us for free to the top floor apartment! It was such a nice thing to do. Absolutely stunning views of St Clair Beach. It was wonderful to wake up to the sound of the ocean waves. The apartment was beautifully decorated & super spacious (4 separate rooms - kitchen, bathrm, bedroom, living rm). The building was lovingly restored. Free parking was available just on the roadside. everything was perfect. Do note there are no stairs so you will have to carry your luggage up 3 floors (the host was very helpful & helped to carry the luggage down when we were checking out). You will have to drive into town the city center. Wish we could stay longer. Dunedin was such a great city.

This little Hotel is great. A wonderful location out by the beach in Dunedin. The hosts were frendily and extremely helpful. The place was simple but perfert for our needs with a young child. We will be back for sure!

We stayed 2 nights in late September. Weather was still cold but the room was a comfortably warm retreat at the end of the day.. And heavenly electric blankets!! Clean compact area with all you need to self cater breakfasts so we didn't use the buffet continental breakfast but it looked adequate and well priced. Room was large with additional lounge seating, bed super comfy and bathroom spotless with great hot water, pressure and good towels. Location excellent for exploring on foot, they have off street parking if needed and several airport shuttle companies are door to door. Plenty of eating/drinking options close by for lunches or dinner. Reception area has additional seating if you need to wait after check out, lovely garden outlook . Staff were friendly and helpful. Location was our prime objective and this place delivers. The building has had several lives (one as a YWCA in days past) and older parts are not in use. Dunedin is a historical city and we felt that staying in a glass and chrome boutique hotel was out of character .. We were very pleased with our choice. I am a little unsure of the "4 star" rating in New Zealand but I would place it as 3.5 stars in Australia only because of the general age of the building. 4 stars for location, comfort, cleanliness and staff !! With all the above, we felt that 97 Motel Moray provided us with an excellent stay and the room rate was reasonable. We would use this property again .

Spent two nights at Amross in Dunedin last week on business - first-time stayer. The welcome was warm and friendly, and the unit I had was spacious, clean, modern and very comfortable. The bed was excellent, good selection of pillows (i prefer thinner pillows, but often Motels just have very thick bulky pillows) and the shower had excellent pressure. They also had Netflix as part of the standard offering which added a great selection to the choice of television viewing. I was kindly referred to Buddha Stix just down the road for thai (takeaway or dine-in) - which was superb, and very convenient. Overall an excellent experience and going forward this would be my first choice for future stays in Dunedin.

When we arrived the house it was sound 22:30 due to a longtime driving from Christchurch. The host was still waiting us ,so impressive. The house is a Victoria style 2 level B&B, which is fine decorated and very clean. Facilities are old but it doesnt matter. Car park is available at back yard, which can accommodate 5~6. Dining room is a small hall and with shelf of VHS tapes and books. Everything In this B&B is seeming back to 70s, even earlier. To those who love the style, u can't miss. Location is also very close to Dunedin centre through a very steep st. (not Baldwin steepest).overall it is a very special style hotel, all attendences are university student volunteers. Nice and warm!

Good. We staying in Dunedin to watch kids sports. Accommodation good and price reasonable. Location good as handy to octagon and night life. Staff very helpful. Facilities good. however and know this out of hotel's control outlook from windows not that flash. There are some surrounding buildings that need demolished, upgraded. That would be the only negative

The Cumberland Street, central city location is handy to the Octagon, Railway Station, supermarkets, cafes and great retail therapy. The staff are some of the friendliest I’ve encountered anywhere, but I’m delighted to say that seems to be the standard for Quest; (I’ve stayed at 2 Quest Hotels in Wellington, 1 in Whangarei, and now 1 in Dunedin, and the staff were fabulous at each venue). The Dunedin studio was clean, but when we requested extra towels these were not provided, not sure the reason, but it meant we had to use wet towels. On the upside, we commented how hot and stuffy our room was due to the warm weather at the time, and were delighted to find a fan in our room for use during our stay. Thanks Quest. We’d gladly recommend you to our friends and family.

Located in city center, have lift, 3~5minutes walk distance from bus stop, easy to go everywhere in Dunedin.

Nicer place then expected. Easy access to town. Was there to see the lil blue penguins at night and this provided a place to get a great sleep afterwards before heading onto Dunedin. Place looked and felt new, clean, everything where it should be. Only concern if you are a light sleeper try to request a unit that does not back to the main road. There was construction going on right outside on the road that made more noise then would have otherwise occurred, I slept fine, wife not so much. As I said, the back is to the road so isn't bad, just request as you wish. I would not hesitate to return. Owner was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The town really surprised me in what it had to offer and how awesome the architecture was.

The staff in Best Western Dunedin Motel is very very warmly and friendly! The room is clean, the wifi speed is fast, the bed, the heater, the hot water, the kitchen...everything is wonderful, and provides everything you need!! It's the best motel I have ever lived in New Zealand.

Overall it's a good hostel in a nice part of Dunedin. The bathrooms could have been cleaner. Also going downstairs to the reception/bar did get a bit annoying. The common room/kitchen is the best part of the hostel. Very comfortable with plenty of space to cook, relax, and meet other travelers.

We stayed in one of the cabins, which was next to a stream. The site was compact but didn't feel overcrowded. We were surprised there was no shop there (we were given milk on arrival) but were provided with a map showing nearby supermarkets and restaurants. Dunedin was a 5-10 minute drive away. We especially enjoyed Otago Peninsular and the weekly farmers' market (Saturday mornings next to the railway station).

Really enjoyable with friendly and helpful staff, plenty of room and good cooking facilities. We would stay here again.

Really comfortable apartment with comfortable bed. Wished we stayed more than one night to take better advantage of the facilities... had a great time chilling out on the armchairs, watching TV after a full day of sightseeing in Dunedin (which was a town exceeding expectations)

We had a wonderful stay at St Clair. Only 10 mins drive from a busy Dunedin- market day etc. Had a sea view beautiful room. Sat and watched the surfers while sipping a glass of rose wine. Booked a table for dinner that night. Fabulous meal. If back in that part of New Zealand would stay there again. Next morning went to the Penguin Place on the peninsula. So worth the drive.

We enjoyed our stay with Trish and her son Simon, they made us feel very welcome into their home. All rooms very well appointed...you had the run of the house with a fully equiped kitchen if you wished to cook your own meals then you could do so, laundry, a lounge room to spread yourself out and a beautiful dining room where breakfast was served, the view of Dunedin from here was just amazing !!!! We want this to be just our secret but that would be selfish of us. On our next visit to Dunedin, we know where we will be staying. This would be our best B & B so congratulations Trish and Simon....keep up the excellent work!

The apt is located on the top of the hill and about 10 to 15 minutes walking distance to the city centre and Otago university. In the night you can oversee the city under beautiful lights. It's quiet and very clean. The facility is excellent and the owner is very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed the time of the stay totally.

I had a really wonderful time at the Kiwi's Nest! The bed was so comfy, the shared bathroom was so clean, had hot water, the mini-kitchen in the second floor had a fridge, coffee, & tea. And the location was the best! Just 8-15 walk to downtown Dunedin. There was also parking on the sides, but it's limited so first come, first served. Will stay there again!

Thank you for the friendly welcome we received on our recent stay. Unfortunately just minutes after checking in my young niece was feeling unwell (after a bout of car sickness) and vomited on the concrete outside. The lovely lady who checked us in couldn't have been more accommodating and sympathetic. Without hesitation she checked on the welfare of my niece and then proceeded to clean it up herself, telling me 'not to worry'. For that we will be forever grateful. It is so lovely, when travelling away from home, to know that there are motels that provide such a personalised level of service with such helpful and caring staff. Thank you xxx

Ok it's not the newest place in Dunedin. But you get no complaints from us. If you want some where central, close to restaurants, easy to drive to the peninsular, and a short walk to town this is it. Helpful staff, clean rooms which are a bit dated, we thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay. Would be my first port of call next time in Dunedin. Value for money here.
