Traveling to Sri Lanka? Find Galle hotels

we had a 5 night stay at the Amari Galle hotel and it was very good. Clean modern rooms, good food, big pool area and superfriendly staff. the only negative is that you can't walk in to town from there. You have to take a tuk tuk. the hotels cars are very overpriced so don't bother. also if u want transport to airport or some other hotel I recommend you to use a local taxi service instead of the hotels. The price difference is about 100 %. but with that said I can say that this is by far the best hotel we have visited in Sri Lanka.

Stayed one night in this hotel during our short visit to Galle. Hotel accomodation was excellent, staff was wonderful, Good breakfast. Hotel setup for reception is not the ideal, though does not effect any guests. Restaurant facilities was great too . My only comment for this hotel is the room rates are bit higher when compare with similar hotels in asian reigon. Something managment and entire tourism organization of Sri Lanka that needs to consider attracting tourists.

You bare feet sinks into the finely manicured lawn, the fine sands blow on to your face as the tropical wind blows in from the sea, the stray puppy comes to you for a peck as you lie down on the beach chair....this is how you get used to the serenity and tranquility that Arabella offers. A finely run boutique resort neatly tucked away from the hustle and bustle of Galle on a pristine beach called Boosa, a 15 minutes Tuk Tuk ride from Galle Fort. I spent a few days at this place with my two boys and what an exquisite experience it was. Not only did it give me the personal touch that one wants when you want a bit of downtime, but also the privacy it offered was unparalleled. In fact suddenly it puts to shame all the all the Stars that big chains today boast of. The Arabella experience makes those feel so lame! The team led by a very capable Rohan and makes your stay at this place an absolute bliss. Don't second guess, just go with it! It's like being on a holiday in your own home.

We stayed in this hotel for the first 3 nights of our 2 week vacation in Sri Lanka. What a great introduction to the friendliness of Sri Lankans and some of the fantastic food of Sri Lanka. The hotel is located right within Galle Fort. This means you can walk everywhere on your own within the fort area. This is good when you are just starting your vacation and might perhaps be a little jet-lagged. You can go out for as long as you want, when you want and then return to your lovely, comfortable room for a rest, a shower. Also the restaurant in the hotel is super. The first night we were tired and couldn't face going out. We ordered the jumbo prawns and the banana-leaf wrapped snapper. OMG both were so, so good that we never even tried to find another place to eat! Breakfasts were also great. The large fruit platter served at breakfast with watermelon, mango, orange, banana, passion fruit, star fruit, apple, pineapple and grapes was fabulous. Eggs cooked to order. The staff were all very friendly and there when you needed them. I do not hesitate to recommend this hotel.

A big thank you to the staff at The Galle Fort Hotel. On our second day we had a lovely afternoon by the pool. Late in the afternoon I felt unwell. Long story short I ended up spending the night in hospital on a drip. The doctor diagnosed food poisoning but I think I became extremely dehydrated after a long walk in the crazy heat and being a bit silly drinking 2 cocktails instead of enough water. I didn’t do anything I wouldn’t do in any Asian country we visit regularly (Bali, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong), it was a freak thing but My partner and I were very concerned and the staff at Galle Fort were lovely, getting a car to take me to the hospital and even coming the following morning with a food delivery. There is no TV, you decide if this is a positive or negative for you but they do have a pool which in my book is a must have in Sri Lanka.

Tamarind Hill was outstanding! The rooms and public spaces of this colonial era mansion are decorated in an elegant and unfussy style, with dark wood furnishings and floors, high ceilings, crisp white linens, huge bathrooms, and a private terrace outside the room. The service was attentive, personal, and friendly. While the food was excellent, the Lighthouse Hotel a five minute walk away provided a good nearby alternative for some variety. While this hotel is not inside Galle Fort, it is only about 15 minutes by tuk-tuk to the fort. This was one of my two favorite accommodations in a month in Sri Lanka.

We booked the room online during our trip and chose the villa because we didn't find anything in popular Hikkaduwa. Upon arrival we were very positively surprised by the exceptionally high standards in this beatiful villa; it had just opened 10 days ago as a local family business; it truly measures up to all western standards; no costs were shunned in building this exceptional little gem of a hotel (you'll find teak wood, and marble, and top class bathroom furniture and installation, a giant koi pond behind an exotic flowers ikebana welcomed up upon entering the lobby; there's a bit garden and a pool is in planning); if possible try to book the luxury suite that extends over two levels, with a separate living room and a bedroom upstairs, an outdoor bathtub / whirl pool and a big terace. we had the smaller room but not less cute; we did not regret for a minute we ended up here; in fact, after the dust and dirt of the city you'll you'll experience the quiet cleaness of the villa as the one desperately needed element to make your sri lanka-holiday a true holiday. you can get to downtown Galle or busy Hikaduwa very easily with a tuktuk that picks you up at the door. the owner-lady is the sweetest person you can imagine - the husband is in the tea business (second generation); a teacenter is in the planning and potentially also excursions to the tea plnatations); you can beat the warmth and professionalism of a local family hotel. book a room in this villa as long as you still can; I suspect it'll be sold out years in advance! we LOVED it!

One of the best and most well managed property in our 17 days in Sri Lanka. We loved ur massive suite the huge verandah that looked out into the lagoon and the food is simply divine! It's a pity that more people don't eat at the restaurant - we ate in twice and the meal has been one of the best we had in Sri Lanka! We also liked that there were boardgames to keep the kids occupied, and I understand the hotel is planning to get kayaks for the lagoon (we will be back when that happens!). Kudos to Ajit the general manager, his team and of course the chef.

Fort Bliss is a quiet villa that is just a stone throw from the Galle Lighthouse. We are pleasantly surprised how quiet it is although it is near to a popular attraction, and yet it is so convenient. You can easily access the major attractions in Galle Fort, the restaurants and the shopping district. The villa just has 4 rooms, but the room is really cozy and is fully furnished with TV, wifi, very nice shower and toilet. The staff is really thoughtful and considerate, and we arrived during the Sinhalese New Year period. Special shoutout to Imran, he is so kind to accede to our requests. Breakfast was really wholesome, regardless whether you are dining in, or you are taking away. One of the best places we stayed among the many accomodation we had in Sri Lanka!

Initially the address that we were given was wrong, the main entrance is Rampart Street not lighthouse street, but that was worked out. We were shown to a room that didn't have ocean views but again that was resolved instantly. The rooms are beautiful, the bed was so comfortable, the bathroom palatial. This stay was not without hiccups, but this is Sri Lanka, our air conditioner carked it through the night, but there was a huge storm, it was back on in the morning and hey we had a fan so all was well. Our balcony looked over the courtyard and on to the ocean, just perfect. Location wise you are in the heart of the fort. Staff, well Sukita was just wonderful, attentive, courteous, interested and professional, a joy to meet him. Recommendations for the owners - reduce your menu prices, seriously!!!!!

If you want to enjoy Galle but don't want to suffer the noise from the town, in a really beautiful, peaceful and luxuriant place... I definitely recommend you to stay at Ginganga Lodge for a few nights (the place is only a few minutes drive by tuk tuk from Galle Fort). The staff is really really (did I say REALLY?) friendly and helpful, especially the owner Indika. The place was opened only a few months ago, everything is brand new and the rooms are big and nicely decorated, so it's really the best time to give it a try. :) ---------- Si vous voulez appréciez Galle sans subir le bruit et l'agitation de la ville, dans un bel endroit avec un cadre luxuriant et apaisant... je vous recommande définitivement de passer quelques nuits au Ginganga Lodge (le lodge est seulement à quelques minutes de tuk tuk du fort). Le staff, etven particulier le propriétaire Indika, est vraiment vraiment (vraiment !) gentil et à l'écoute et fera tout son possible pour vous vous permettre de passer le meilleur séjour possible. Le lodge n'a ouvert qu'il y a quelques mois, tout est neuf et les chambres sont grandes et très joliment décorées, donc c'est le meilleur moment pour découvrir cet endroit :)

I live in hotels 300 plus nights a year with work - have done for years so like to break holidays into more than room service and a breakfast bar. Niyagama House delivers luxury with a window into inland rain forest, working tea plantation sri lanka. Great service, leaves areal pampered feel Our escape to sri lanka was a few days in colombo, a night or two on a south costal boutique and the bulk in a tiny village just outside Mirissa beach, doors opening onto our lagoon, idyllic friendly quite basic with charm. We hired an off road bike to travel around a little explore towns, temples and beaches. I booked Nyagama house towards the end of our stay, to add some luxury and elegance, to pamper my partner and experience another facet of Sri Lanka away from cities and shore, ease our travelling bones. Nyagama house feels as though it could have been built a hundred years ago, though it is brand new. A great building with open atrium, polished stone floors, white walls and dark carved wood complimented by new fittings and comforts. The owner seemingly must be finding her hospitality feet as just opened though you would not know, the staff provided upper standard of service, food. Rooms turned down, requests managed - with the owner providing a friendly touch, arranging massages out of hours, saying hello, providing recipes for local dishes. Its difficult to balance high service, welcoming feel and friendliness but Nyagama does this. A great start to a great personal luxury hotel, wish them all the luck in the future - Nyagama is more than worth adding to your stay. Id recommend for couples, rest, retreat, a few days change and luxury or a larger party taking on the entire 7 rooms for a special occasion. Great bedding too - always nice Against's, no card machine when visited, though being ordered. No AirCon, didn't feel needed, away from shore and fans in the roof. Little away from town if looking for nebulos night life. - Danny and Katya

High end facilities, very few rooms, right near the main part of Galle Fort. Highly recommended

Just wow. A short tuk tuk ride from galle. This place is paradise and one of the best places we've stayed, staff went out of their way to help us. We felt like royalty. We even had a private dinner in the tree house. The deluxe room had its own plunge pool, stunning terrace balcony (huge) and large bathroom. Worth splashing out a bit more for these apartments. Gorgeous gardens full of wildlife and an infinity pool. This place deserves more than a ten!

Guys, I want back to this wonderfull hotel! We spent there 10 happy days. Rooms are really big, a bed is huge, ocean view from both sides of the room, a big wardrobe which you may close with a key. The hotel is clean and light with no insects. Staff is really so friendly, well english speaking. Especially Sunil - such a nice and funny person, helped us so much. The owner of the hotel helped us to organize a transfer to the airport (70$). The view from the window is really impressive ! The ocean is wonderfull but with big waves from both sides of the hotel. But it is possible to swim at the right side - waves are not as big as at the left. Being in the hotel we saw many surfers - really enjoyed watching them! But the surfing spot is not for starters. The beaches are huge and deserted, yellow sand. Please note that there are no shops near to the hotel. But you can easily go to Hikkaduwa (6 km) or Galle (18 km) by bus - they are cheap (0,18 $) and go really often. The food is good, portions were big, fresh juices were delicious. Not expencive at all. Some minuses: if you need a room to be cleaned you should request it. And there is no hot water - just warm, from a large black barrel located on the roof. But it wasn't a problem for us. I really can recommend the hotel to my friends.

We had a 3 nights stay at Heritage Villa by Jetwing. They have only 4 rooms there, we family of three stayed in room number 4. It was spacious and with a heritage ambiance, we just loved it. Saman and the cook (I forgot his name) was excellent in service. During Breakfast there were two options either Western or Sri Lankan style. We opted for Sri Lankan style and it was really good. Highly recommended for Galle Fort.

Arriving in the middle of the night, I was swiftly greeted and shown to my room. The room and bathroom size was generous, clean and comfortable. The staff very friendly, welcoming and very much full of Sri Lankan hospitality. Inclusive breakfast excellent and the courtyard had a very relaxed vibe where guests ate or whiled away the time relaxing, ready or just chilling out. They also readily helped arrange tours and helped with local information....I'll stay there again when next in Galle

That's why we chose Villa Amma Erna, for the building and design! -spot on architecture - beautiful beautiful beautiful place down side: -the concrete floor could be mopped more often, at room and common area. - solar powered hot water for shower capacity could be bigger

This boutique hotel the interior is beautiful! All the staff are friendly and always ready to assist you. The hotel is a walkable distance to all the attractions in galle. The staff were so awesome that they prepared a birthday cake for me despite none of us inform them on that! Excellent service! keep up the great work!

The location is excellent and quiet the rooms lovely and the staff do all in their power to be helpful

Galle is beautiful and well worth a visit in Sri Lanka-this is a great palce to stay. Run by a lovely family who attend to all your needs and the graet location makes it an ideal place to stay. There is water available and they do a small menu if ever hungry and dont want to venture out. I spent my first couple of days in sri Lanka here and felt so safe.

I love Prince of Galle cuz to me it feels more than a hotel, you can see all the details that the owner put in . The decoration is tasteful and thoughtful. peaceful and relaxing environment , 100% clean and neat and safe rooms , and most importantly, lovely and friendly people are there. From the staff to the manager and the owner - Kirk, you are gonna love them as much as I do. I've been stayed basically all the 5-star hotels in srilanka for business purpose , and I have to say, Prince of Galle is better than them, in every way.

My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Ceylon Olive. It is ideally located between the historical Galle Fort neighbourhood and the beaches of Unawatuna. We could easily spend the mornings in the beach surfing, make a brief stop at the hotel and head back to the Fort to spend the evenings. The property itself is lovely, nestled amidst beautiful gardens and the rooms are very spacious. The outdoor bath and shower is such a charming touch. We were waking up to birdsong every morning and of course some scrumptious Srilankan breakfast. This was our first stop in Sri Lanka and we couldn’t have asked for a better spot or a more thoughtful host.

You really can't get a better location than Muhsin Villa. Galle Fort has extremely limited hotel options -- if you're looking for a budget accommodation, Muhsin Villa is far & away the best deal. The rooms are basic but functional, and the roof is a great relaxing spot. Really friendly owners who answered all my questions and helped when necessary. Highly recommend Muhsin Villa for a visit to Galle!

I had one of the best stay in Sri Lanka, very clean, comfortable; and the staff is friendly, kind and full of smiles. Great breakfast. Everything in the room works great. You can use the pool in the sister hotel at Deco 44.

Parawa House made my one night stay in Galle very enjoyable. Perfectly situated in a small lane, the hotel and the local settings live up to any expectations. (As a bonus, Parawa House is opposite to a popular restaurant serving a delectable tasting plate of curries.) We were greeted with friendly smiles and immediate attentiveness. The owner showed us our rooms, asked if we would like a drink (we had a perfect lime juice), and made sure that all our needs were met. The interior is designed simply, but with style. Breakfast was served according to your desired time and the meal was more than adequate. A generous serving of fresh fruit and fruit juice, perfectly cooked eggs and sautéed tomatoes, toast, and tea/coffee. I spoke to the owner on numerous occassions. He's great sense of pride is exemplified in the running of Parawa House. I would recommend Parawa House to those who like boutique style hotels, but at a more affordable price.

Our room was lovely and had everything we needed. We couldn't get any hot water for a shower but it didn't matter at all as the weather was so hot. The location is perfect, right in the heart of Galle with loads of restaurants and cafes nearby. We didn't find it noisy at night. The breakfast was the best part - loads of fresh fruit, hoppers, eggs, toast, tea, couldn't have asked for more!

Our stay in the Dutch House was a once in a lifetime experience. We love the homey atmosphere and the cozy living area. Lazing around the house while reading one of the many books available was bliss. Our suite was large with four poster bed, adjoining study and bathroom with freestanding bath. The house is furnished with antique Dutch furnitures, tastefully decorated with old maps and prints. Breakfast can be served anytime you want, albeit the service is rather slow. Dinner in the neighbouring Sun House is pretty good too. The highlight of our stay, however, was the private concert organized by the owner in his private island of Taprobane.

Situated at galle fort with convenient access to cafe, shops and sea by walks. Nice stroll at evening. Only drawbacks are room small and there are mosquitoes.

I arrived in Sri Lanka for a 5 night stay, first stop galle. I didn't have too high an expectation for the secret palace, however I was completely overwhelmed by how lovely it was. I was warmly greeted by Matthew who called the owners Roshan and Rasika who came also to greet me. They were friendly accomodating and a perfect start to my my travels in Sri Lanka. The room (i was in the amethyst room at the front) was small but perfectly adequate, bathroom spotlessly clean, bed huge and so comfortable. If I had to make even the slightest grumble it wailed be that the sheet on the bed was a little too small....but that's it!! My balcony was lovely, only a view of the lane leading to the hotel but was really nice to sit out and read listening to the birds...so peaceful. Breakfast was served either on a little terrace out the back or downstairs, lovely fruit platter toast and big pot of tea, smashing. The wifi was chick and free and worked well in my room. Rasika's brother owns a tuk tuk and took me up to the peace pagoda and some other temples I wouldn't have known about. All in all I don't think you would be disappointed by a stay here, I loved it!!
