This is a very nice area for nature, sightseeing and outdoor activities. The scenery is beautiful with many "lookouts" and hiking trails.
There is a aboriginal museum that provides some educational background on the history and culture of the area. My favourite is still the sights and scenery of the beautiful place, filled with waterfalls, mountain cliffs and valleys. Fantastic place for relaxation and excellent for experiencing the wonders of nature.
3 hrs drive from melbourne and you can wine your self down right when you enter the park. Although the scenery is not as stunning as Wilson Prom, but the forest, lakes, and mountains are just beauty! will definitely come back
You will need a lot of sunscreen, it is very hot during the day, use mosquito spray at night and when driving around, watch out for the native animals that jump out in front of you, EG: kangaroo's.
When bush walking, bring plenty of water. Don't buy food in the local supermarket as the prices are double. Buy food in Ararat or Stawell. You can eat in the main street if you have plenty of money, they all charge premium prices. We had BBQ's and it was to die for. YUM YUM!
Check the weather before going to this area. .coz nothing to do if raining days. ..that only can st in hotel.
Long distances to travel between major towns - remember this! Very picture-perfect area. Take the time to walk to Lookouts - the end result is worth it.
Don't rush. A must is to visit The Old Bakery at Dunkeld - fabulous sausage rolls and pies!! Not forgetting their impressive 'on premise' woodfired oven where fabulous bread is baked...mmmm - will return.
As we were in town for the GGE festival,it obviously was our focus. We walked the main street looking at the shops Sunday morning, before going to the GGE.
It was ashame that the Grampians was close due to the fires so we couldn't get up to the water falls.
But the children loved looking at the large rocks and walking along the walking tracks.
