Kumamoto hotels & places to stay

Mitsui Garden Hotel Kumamoto Our room was on the 8th floor. Buffet Breakfast was included and was very good with lots of choices. Very small room with double bed. Had sheet and doona, and the mattress was comfortable. Had a room safe and multi recharge ports. There was no room for luggage or moving about the room. Had one chair. Had hanging space but no cupboard. Small bathroom with deep bath and shower in the bath. No free water bottles. It had a fridge, coffee and tea making facilities. Has a window that looks out to other distant hotel rooms and you can see the road in a gap between buildings. We found the hotel easily by using a tram from the station. The hotel is a 25 min walk along the river from the station if you wish to walk. There is shopping and restaurants nearby but at the station there is a great food court with many restaurants to try. The castle is under repair so we used Kumamoto as a base to visit Nagasaki and Aso volcano. The ramen restaurant in Aso was the best we

Located next door to the Kumamoto train station with immediate access to buses & the tram system as well. The station itself is great: restaurants, shops, convenience stores, information desk, etc. Room size was refreshingly larger than others I had stayed in within Japan & is more akin to standard hotel rooms. Eco-cleaning option is available (elect not to have your linens changed every day, which I was happy to select). Despite the construction going on at the station, I didn’t hear noises when I was in my room. If you’re up for a 20 minute hike, I recommend checking out Hanaokayama. You can see the peace pagoda from the hotel. I will definitely stay here again if I’m ever in Kumamoto again. It’s a good place to base yourself if you want to explore Kyushu

This hotel a great value, and centrally located in downtown Kumamoto. If you are a JR traveler it is about a half hour walk from JR Kumamoto station. Trams are easy and cheap (170 Yen), but sometimes crowded. The beds are comfortable, the rooms are clean and relatively spacious, the extra charge breakfast buffet is very good. Staff is professional and courteous, but very little English spoken.

My family enjoyed our stay at Hotel Nikko Kumamoto very much. The room and beds were very comfortable and we had a nice view of Kumamoto Castle from our room. A complimentary baby cot was prepared and provided in our room before our arrival. Checking in and out was effortless, and we were able to check in at around 2 plus pm, contrary to the practices of other hotels in Japan. Checkout was also late at 11 am. One of the best things about this hotel is its close proximity to the main shopping arcades and department stores (Tokyu Hands, Tsuruya) in Kumamoto. If there is a chance, we will definitely stay there again.

It's a bit far from station. Even the tram cannot reach there. The water tap is surprisingly old-fashioned. I hope the hotel can replace them. Staff are nice and helpful. Service is really good. Even when we did not require cleaning service, the staff gave us a bag of new towels and pillow cases etc which was real considerate. Near Kumamoto Castle and Natsume Soseki old home but it was under construction.

It was a 30 minute walk from JR Kumamoto Station, though you could take a streetcar directly there. No restaurants nearby, so had to walk 15 mins to city centre, and still not much around. Didn't try free inside onset, but seemed popular. Room was a bit small, but clean and great WIFI. Free buffet Japanese breakfast was a surprise and very tasty with wide selection. Best way to start the day!

This place would be great travellers with just a backpack (like me), because the space in the room is not big enough for a check-in luggage, which was what my friends brought. Still, we just used the accommodation as a place to rest and recharge for the next day, so it was still manageable. Do note that there are no doors to the 'rooms', only a curtain with a velcro strip. So please store all your valuables in the lockers provided. My friends and I were very impressed with the cleanliness of all the spaces. It seems like a newly renovated hotel! The toilet and bathroom areas were pristine, and there was free Shiseido soap, shampoo and conditioner to use. I loved the clean tap water of Kumamoto, which made my skin and hair shine and feel soft. I learnt that the tap water from Kumamoto city comes from Aso Volcano! I also have to commend on how the staff goes above and beyond their line of service to help me. Thank you so much!

Kumamoto is an interesting city in Kyushu. It is an old city, with excellent historical, cultural and educational facilities. The location of the hotel was directly across from the famous Kumamoto Castle, very close to the two light train tracks that criss cross the city. The staff were pleasant and well mannered, as would be expected in Japan, and also very helpful and informative. The room with a double bed was small, but very clean. Internet connection was free, but not especially efficient or fast. The staff at the check-in counter were well spoken in English. I would recommend the hotel most strongly, and would definitely be happy to stay there again on my next visit to Kumamoto.

great location if you are travelling by bus -- the hotel is located just opposite to the bus terminal, and there is tram station right in front of the hotel. Kumamoto Castle is just about 7minutes walk. It is situated right next to the shopping arcades. Like other Tokyu Hotels, room size is satisfactory and Pola products are offered. Price is reasonable, even it may be a little bit higher than other hotels in Kumamoto.

It is a decent hotel with a public bath available in the morning and evening. Would definitely book my stay here if I come back to Kumamoto :)

It was a great little hotel handy for the Sanrigi train station (To airport and Kumamoto and the Aso coach stop). Walking distance to Kumamoto Stadium for the rugby match. (Or othr sports activities in that complex). The rooftop Onsen has great views and was great, just having one means that a couple cannot bathe at the same time. (Even though you rarely share, having to co-ordinate to fit into the male or female slots means being a bit more organised.) Freindly staff who were helpful with all our needs. mny Thanks

Perfect location where hotel directly on Shimotori shopping arcade. Walking distance to Kumamon Square, Kumamoto castle... Hotel is modern, clean, beautiful However there is a small problem as we’re driving. We couldn’t find the hotel location as the gps kept leading us to shopping arcade. Hotel parkings are a short walk from hotel, which is ok, but a little problem when we have young children n old senior couple.

Book this hotel as base for my Southern Kyushu Trip with my parents. Very short walking distance and convenient from Kumamoto Station to this hotel. The hotel accept storage luggage. Women traveller will Received welcoming gift beauty kit during check in. During breakfast, I did show my Muslim dietary card , and the kitchen staff was so helpful to show what I can eat. And they are cheerful and friendly too! Breakfast start at 0630am - 0930am. There’s a 3type of bread comes with butter & strawberry jam. Everyday is Japanese food mostly rice and side dish like vegetable , chicken or beef (We not eat chicken and beef ). A lot of variety vegetable and it’s healthy way to start our day for traveling. I love the miso soup, it’s perfectly delicious 🤤! The room is kind of big, luggage can be store below bed. My room is at upper floor and have a city view as per request. They clean the room every day. The robe, razor, comb & toothbrush at the lobby freely to take . Free drink water cooler at the lobby. Coin laundry and drink vending machine also available. Overall, I had have perfect stay and best experience in Toyoko Inn Kumamoto Ekimae ! Thank you !

Rooms were clean and neat. Children loved the rooms and were comfortable. Doesn’t seem as small as stated and could still have space for luggages. Breakfast was simple and nice. Will be back again next time at Kumamoto.

In my case, the hotel room (Queen bed, non-smoking) I occupied for 2 days was pretty comfortable despite being in fringe city: modern furnishings, good size television, memory foam bed (I think), full Toto bathroom equipment (though the showerhead was pretty weak), and spacious. I didn’t use the onsite onsen (not sure if it is a natural or artificial onsen) or the laundry facilities (there’s an off site laundromat just a 5 minutes walk a ways); but judging from the frequent occupation of the onsen, I guess it’s good. Breakfast was good; it really does feel there is a sincere effort in deciding the daily Japanese/continental breakfast buffet menu. The surround area is also great; local eateries are easily accessed, and there’s an Aeon near for stocking up; my only qualm is that it is located behind a funeral parlour. For the times when Kumamoto was too expensive, and if travel is for somewhere closer to elsewhere, e.g., Aso or Kurokawa, Candeo Hotel Ozu looks and feels good.

I stay 2 nights at this hotel.It's frist hotel in japan of my trip.It's very private,ok for relax time.close and easy for travel in kumamoto,jr kumamoto,sunroad,kumamoto castle,suizenji park and easy go to Aso mount. very good for stay again

I like Hotel Okus in every aspect. Actually the very big earthquake took place the night I arrived in Kumamoto, while resting in Hotel Okus. The hotel staffs came up and told us to leave although they were scared too. I saw a few hotel guests standing right outside the hotel, on the street, right between two tall buildings -- which is not a safe place to be during earthquakes. It will best if someone would lead us to a safe place. Anyway, I would strongly recommend this hotel because of the low price, big room & good service.

We were on a self drive free & easy tour and this hotel was very easy to find. The very famous Kumamoto Castle is only 2km from the hotel and within walking distance. You can also drive and they have parking at the Kumamoto castle. The hotel staff was very friendly and quickly helped us check-in and provided us a list of the sites to see. Very good breakfast - lots of choices. We were also upgraded to a bigger room - because of tour group. Highly recommended!

At walkable distance from the 'upper' and 'lower' shopping street of kumamoto, despite a very mild uphill 10 minutes walk from closest tram station to the hotel. Room were very spacious for Japanese standard, also very clean. And we had the pleasure for an upgraded room that face towards the kumamoto castle which is currently under repair and construction.

Japanese breakfast was nice. The Western style breakfast did not seem so appetizing. The staff were friendly and tried to communicate in English. Basically, this is a hotel for convenience. You wouldn't go here to enjoy staying in a hotel, but because the price is quite reasonable and the location is convenient, especially if you care visiting Kumamoto by highway bus.

Located in the heart of Kumamoto City and there are lots of shops and restaurants near the hotel, which is quite convenient for tourists. It only takes several minutes walk to the Castle. Really good location for everything in the city.

Spent 5 nights in this hotel. Satisfied for 100%. Friendly personnel (even some of them don't know English properly), they are always ready to help; clean room and facilities, everything you need was provided. Good and balanced Japanese breakfast in hotel's canteen. Coin laundry in hotel premises (3, 5 floors). Very good location, close to JR subway station Shinsuizenji (5min on foot). Комната с монетной стиралкой и сушкой (3, 5 этажи). Очень выгодное расположение, рядом JR станция метро Shinsuizenji (5 мин пешком). Рекомендую.

1. Excellent and friendly service from staff. 2. Very good value considering service and quality of food with in-room dinner. 3. Grounds lovely with nice formal garden, which can be seen from all rooms. 4. Location not the most convenient, a little off the beaten path in Tamana. 5. Onsen facilities are good, although the water is at a higher temperature than usual and not that renowned.

You will love to stay here as it is close to the attractions in kumamoto, it is cheap, but comfortable! And you may have a chance to try the traditional bathing style of Japan.

We lost the car key, and cannot communicate in Japanese with the car rental company. Hotel counter Manager Ms Onoko helped us to contact the car rental to arrange for car key replacement and it’s delivery to the hotel. Later, we found the key back. Ms Onoko helped us again to contact the car rental which finally saved us a lot time and money. Thank you very much again for Ms Onoko.

You may not pay attention to this hotel but I visited there for one night , I would like to sharing with you for my finding! 1. Nearly 100 number of free parking outside, so don't worry if you drive. 2. In fact there are total two onsen there , one inside the hotel on the lower floor , another next to the main building of the hotel, that entry with ticket given by the hotel when you check-in. ( Remember to bring with some money for buying drinks and snack if you go there and I saw only local Japanese enjoy there) 3. You should come very early to enjoy the onsens 4. The food is delicious, both Japanese style in the morning and at night. Strongly Recommend !

We booked Superior Japanese-Style Room with Private Open-Air Bath. The Onsen is wonderful, quiet and comfy. Breakfast and Dinner are superb. Satsuki Bessou Ryokan is definitely my choice for my next trip to Kumamoto.
