Best hotels & accommodations in Onomichi

This was definitely one of the more nicer hotels I stayed in during my trip. The staff during check in was super nice and I'm just going to say it, I love the pajamas they provide. They were so COMFORTABLE and soft!!! The bathrooms were great and I loved that they had boxes available at all times in the lobby to refill any of the amenities you might want (tea, toothbrushes, washtowels, lotion, shampoo, conditioner, etc). While I can't say a ton for the location because I actually didn't spend a ton of time in Fukuyama (I was doing the Shimanami Kaido trail from Onomichi). It looked like there was quite a bit nearby to see and there are maps with all the attractions available. For those planning on doing the Shimanami Keido, it is maybe a 20 minute (likely less) train ride to Onomichi and the bike rentals and ferries to the start of the route are maybe a 5 minute walk from the station. This is a great alternative to staying in Onomichi and provides you with a really nice place to stay. This hotel is a 15 minute walk to the train station in Fukuyama and super eary to navigate. I think what I liked best about this hotel was the security. I really liked that in order to use the elevators about the reception floor, you need to use your key card. Also, they have really strong security for the baths on the upper floors and codes that change every day for the women's room. I really liked this aspect. Also, breakfast included in the hotel stay is always amazing! They had a good spread. I recommend this hotel.

We ended up in Fukuyama because we couldn't find a good hotel in Hiroshima available. Now I'm happy that happened, because this hotel is just opposite the train station and it takes just over 20 minutes to be in Hiroshima by train (with JR pass). We ended up in Fukuyama because we couldn't find a good hotel in Hiroshima available. Now I'm happy that happened, because this hotel is just opposite the train station and it takes just over 20 minutes to be in Hiroshima by train (with JR pass). Besides, the hotel is also walking distance from the beautiful Fukuyama Castle and museums. Very convenient. Apart from that, the hotel is the most comfortable we saw in Japan: good beds, shower, spotless bathroom, really dark rooms (good curtains, which is rare), silent and with a very friendly and attentive staff. I couldn't recommend more.

The communication with the reception via email was quite chaotic, but in the end we get to where we wanted to. Just beware that last buses from Hiroshima (and other places around) go to the airport before 8pm. We used a taxi from Shiraichi station (3300 yen in 2019). Just beware that last buses from Hiroshima (and other places around) go to the airport before 8pm. We used a taxi from Shiraichi station (3300 yen in 2019). Otherwise the hotel is similar to all the business hotels in Japan -- clean, good facilities, a little bigger than average. Price is also bigger than average, but I guess you pay for location in this case. They have shuttle buses to the airport, but they only start at 6:40am if I recall correctly. But it's only like 5 minute walk.

Facilities in the room are bit old but it’s quite better than other hotels in there. JR Onomichi station is almost 2 minutes to walk, Senkouji ropeway station is 15 minutes to walk, Onomichi main street is 5minutes to walk and Shimanami seaside way is right on there. Just a few minutes walk from train station and buses, plus many major Fukuyama cultural attractions, local shopping and restaurants, made location in town excellent. Just a few minutes walk from train station and buses, plus many major Fukuyama cultural attractions, local shopping and restaurants, made location in town excellent. In addition, a day trip to the town of Hiroshima is fast and easy directly from Fukuyama station. Facilities and value for money rated as only as good due to absence of an iron and ironing board in laundry or alternate supply of this at hand in the room. Like many hotels in Japan, the Richmond chose to provide just a trouser press, which isn't suitable for any other clothing. Access to an iron is a must for travellers and a reasonable expectation for hotels of the standard of the Richmond. If one is available via enquiry at front desk, I would like to suggest a guest request for this be invited via an invitation in the in-room information pack or via a sign in the wardrobe. Other hotel facilities were most welcoming, of high standard and very useful. Breakfast offering excellent and provision of a small hotel lounge next to dining area with newspapers and desktop computer access a very thoughtful addition. We are grateful to the all the Richmond Hotel staff for their exceptional and reliable service.

This lovely hotel gave us a room with the castle view and it was lovely indeed. The hotel was less than 5min from the station, staff members were warm and all smiles. We were upgraded and had a good-sized room with fairly large bathroom. Bed was comfortable. Room amenities good. We booked with breakfast and was happy with the spread. We were also able to help ourselves with hot and cold beverages during the afternoon and evening. Do pick up a brochure for the old cars and clock museum from the hotel, it gives a discount for the entry fees by just showing it. The museum is very quaint and well-worth visiting. It is a fairly long but pleasant walk, or one could hail a taxi. Use Fukuyama as a base to visit Tomonoura, you would love Tomonoura!

Close to JR Mihara, and the restaurant street nearby. Price is not cheap and not able to understand why needed to give keys to frontdesk once you leave(not checkout) the hotel. It would be much much better if price is a little bit cheaper or a breakfast can be included for current price

According to the owners, this house is over 200 years old. It is absolutely spectacular, especially if you get the chance to book the private room at the top floor! The interior is very traditional, with thin walls, wooden floors and large sliding doors that lead straight to the alley two floors bellow. The light shining through the windows in the morning was breathtaking and the location of the guesthouse a very short distance from the train station, the beautiful mountain with countless temples and the fisherman port. Expect to hear a bit of rowdiness at night since this building is quite old and not soundproof. If you're accustomed to backpacking, then you must already use ear plugs on a regular basis for sound sleeping as we do, thus the noise here is not an issue. For early birds, there is a DELICIOUS little pastry shop right by the guesthouse in the small market. We would definitely go again!

The hotel is a short walk from onomichi station & very near to Senkoji Park ropeway. Guests can enjoy their hotspring free. Staff are very friendly. We were given a welcome drink & were surprised that we can choose from the liquor list too. People who don’t like onsen may find it inconvenient as there’s no en-suite bathroom.

Possibly the friendliest staff I’ve met in Japan. The gentleman at the front desk was so nice and helpful as was the cleaning lady. The location is awesome. Be careful, as the address says “Onomichi”, but it’s actually central Fukuyama. I wanted to stay in Fukyama anyway, so no problems. 24 hour convini opposite the hotel to stock up whenever you need.

Breakfast was good; curry with rice served during dinner is not worth the trouble as the curry has lots of really fatty beef and not much carrots and potatoes. WIFI signal is good, room is reasonably clean and we are comfortable with the room size. Free bicycle available though the quality is not great. Railway station and pier are about 5 minutes walk. Train to Onomichi is about 20-30 minutes.

Short access from Shin Onomichi station was if one gets in by Shinkansen, much longer bus ride of about 30 minutes from Onomichi Station. About 10 minutes walk from bus stop, signs to ryokan on main road not visible. Although no bath room attached, facilities are available close to all the rooms on each floor. Throughout our stay the service was outstanding; the staff were all so nice and welcoming. The room was spotless and had a luxurious feel whilst still maintaining a traditional japanese aesthetic. The bath on the balcony looking over the water and the nearby islands was breathtaking. The dinner and breakfast were delicious but be warned it is very traditional so tell them in advance if you have any dietary requirements. All in all I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a luxurious traditional japanese experience.

Located right next to JR Onomichi station. It's quite a good choice for people looking for value instead of luxury. The guesthouse is indeed a old traditional Japanese building with one shared bathroom. But owner did a great job maintaining it in good condition. 距離JR尾道站不遠處。這裡對於追求實惠,而非享受的旅人是個好選擇。房舍的確是傳統日本平房,一間共用浴室。但屋主很用心維護屋況。

Pro: It's a little guesthouse with two bunkbed dorms in 10-15min walking distance of the station. The owner live in the same place (Yuka, her husband and their cute boy). Everything is tiny but nice. Yuka was the most helpful host that i had during my 2 months travelling in japan with tips about onomichi and the area incl bikeride to Imabari and they provide you a map with all the good things to try (waffle, icecream, on some days one of the best okonomiyaki's :) Con: There is only one shower and one toilet, so it can be busy when the guesthouse is full. There is a nice onsen/sauna close to the guesthouse and the guesthouse provides a discount voucher for that and towels. A good place to recover from the 70-80km bicycleride

the hotel staff is awesone. upon our arrival we were picked up from the train station, and the staff was more than willing to shuttle us in and around onomichi. when we departed, they even took us to shin-onomichi. this is world class customer service and we will certainly be staying with them again in the future. thank you!!

The hotel is catered to Japanese therefore nothing is written in English. There is not a single English Channel on tv ( not even news) but we are aware we don’t come for that. Loved this guesthouse! It was made by repurposed wood from a local elementary school and had a Showa feel to it. The cafe downstairs is amazing as well. Stayed there for one night before I rode the Shimanami Kaido and then one more night on my way back. Definitely recommend. Its a little bit far from Onomichi Station but theres plenty to see on the way there.

Even though Miharashi-tei is a heritage building, the interior was well designed and maintained. The cafe had an excellent overview of Onomichi and a gorgeous sunset view. Because of the view, cupped with the excellent matcha latte, one could probably sit at its cafe the whole day and muse away. To top it up, the staff was friendly and helpful. The location is excellent as well with Senkoji temple just around the corner (literally just a few steps away), the Senkoji Park just before it (you may find some cats lingering around the park) and the cat alley just down the road. The only gripe, the climb up to Miharashi-tei can be quite challenging especially when you have a large luggage! So it’s probably a place excellent for backpackers and those traveling light!

I chose Onomichi at random and loved it. If you are a walker, go 50m east of Onomichi station to the level crossing and look up. The white building with the traditional one on the left is the hotel. Veer left from a tall set of stairs which just goes into the school. Brilliant view. The town below is great for food and drinks. And at least on the days I was there the staff spoke better English than I did and were wonderful.

I will be back for sure.

We always prefer to stay at hotels with Onsen, and the Route Inn certainly did not disappoint. The hotel is actually attached to the Public Onsen which makes it super convenient. The room has good space and the bed is quite firm, almost too hard, but OK for a few nights. Overall we really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay here again. If you Enjoy the relaxation of an Onsen with full massage services you will certainly like it here. Excellent!!

This lovely hotel gave us a room with the castle view and it was lovely indeed. The hotel was less than 5min from the station, staff members were warm and all smiles.

Apart from that...

I recommend this hotel.

the hotel staff is awesone. upon our arrival we were picked up from the train station, and the staff was more than willing to shuttle us in and around onomichi. when we departed, they even took us to shin-onomichi. this is world class customer service and we will certainly be staying with them again in the future. thank you!!

Also bus station is very close and very nice to contact from anywhere. Highly recommanded if you travel...
