Paihia is a small boring town where the tourist trade is busy. Take a boat trip to be amongst the dolphins but you have to cope with the many dumb tourist who stick a camera in your view !! The Maori heritage is there to see but like everything in new Zealand at a cost.
The bay of islands is very beautiful but that was not built by man
This is a great base for a fewdays while traveling around N Island. The walks are interesting, but just generally relaxing and enjoying the laid back atmosphere are the clinchers.
warm friendly place with lots to do ...and easy to get to at least half a dozen similar great places in the area
Paihia is the centre of the bay of Islands. A short distance from Waitangi & a quick ferry takes you to Russell.
Both these places have huge historical importance in NZ.
Great place to relax, good beaches, sightseeing. But very expensive to to do boat tours to the islands.
Only cheap day out is ferry trip to Russel, which is excellent.
awesome place for a holiday or for business stay, plenty to do if you wish to, but can also relax by the beach with a good book.
Eating out is very enjoyable with plenty of choice.
Pahia has two faces: one with a cruiseship and the other without. As soon as a cruisshio arrives the smallcity is crowded of people and very lively, but as soon as the ship as left it becomes quiet.
Paihia is a lovely little town and can be used as a staging area to explore the surroundings such as Russell, Kerikeri and Cape Reinga.
There's not much going on in town; shops close early. Life is relatively quiet. There are lots of activities offered (e.g., boat trips) but they are all rather pricey.
loved paihia, we had a self contained unit so shoped and ate in and also had meals out, every one was really friendly 3 cruise ships were in on the days we were there the markets of hand made gifts were thriving and selling really lovely hand made treasures, but it didn't seem to busy despite all the extra people in town.
there are alot of tours offered and the fullers tours we took were well worth it,ending in a walk around russell.great place to pick up gifts for home..we'll be back
