Breakfast is good. Friendly staff specially staff girl at swimming counter which really help my kids on arrangement snorkeling activities. Thumbs up. Need to improve room wifi signal but other matter was awesome. Really recommended if you want to stay at Long Beach Perhentian Island.

The location is handy and although few rooms have ocean views, they are set in a lovely garden and the hotel layout is interesting. Views from restaurant areas are great. Staff were very friendly and the buffet breakfast was good. Handy to beach and very convenient for the ferry.Coral Bay is not quite as good as long beach for swimming but still fantastic and overall it is a much more relaxed and quiet place to stay than long beach which is about 10 minute walk away if you do want loud music and bars.

We stayed at Perhentian Tivoli Hostel for 6 nights, for which I am glad we did as it was a well needed break from back packing adventures around Malaysia and Borneo. Tivoli Hostel is located about 3 minutes walk from Long Beach behind Perhentian Tropicana Inn. The prices were slightly higher compared to other places on the island but still it was value for money. The hostel had clean comfortable rooms with really comfy beds and pillows.(Not like those in normal hostels). They had both private rooms and also dorm rooms both with attached bathrooms. Shower temperature varied due to dependence on solar power. The staffs were friendly but we had difficulty communicating with some of them and it was obvious that they lacked training but that was not a serious problem. They even gave us a nice big mat for us to sit on the beach every time even without we asking which was really appreciated. I would definitely recommend a stay here for a few nights of your trip at least.

The reviews did scare me, however we wanted to visit the Perhentian islands and we had no alternative. I must say the the resort was wonderful. The reviews did scare me, however we wanted to visit the Perhentian islands and we had no alternative. I must say the the resort was wonderful. Let me start with the room (we booked a superior room in the main building). The beds are more than ok, however the shower and toilet (both in the room and the one are the reception) could use some updating and that's an understatement). The breakfast is for malesian standerds very good. You can get toast, all kinds of pastry, fruits, cereal, and Malsian style breakfast. Moreover, you can order eggs (prepared in all ways: omelette, scrambled etc). The menu of the restaurant has enough choice. We also had lunch in other places, but I must say that the restaurant in Arwana was very good. The chef (Abdulrazak) is very kind and even gave us some Malaysian chicken saté. For diner they also have a very good bbq or fish steam boat. The best plus of the resort is the swimming pool. It is cleaned every morning. It is a shame that they do not invest in a good filtering system (you don;t need to clean the pool in the morning so in the long run saved you money and the pool isn't dirty in the evening). This is the largest swimming pool on the island. Is very useful if you have small children (and indeed for adults :-). The hotel has also it's own small pier. This is very handy if you need to carry luggage. You don't need to drag this over the beach to you resort. Another big plus it the diving school at the facility. For people that have no experience...the pool is very handy for learning the basics of diving. We took lessens and found are very satisfied...other schools go to shallow water witch is very hard due to the waves. Finally, the staff is very nice...although I believe this hold for most people in Malesia. I also took some din

Very clean, right in front of the beach, looking nice, the bed is cozy and I am so in love with the pillows provided 😊 . The staffs are friendly and helpful. Teluk Dalam is where families and budget travellers like myself are recommended to stay. There are restaurants and burger stalls with reasonable prices along the Teluk Dalam beach so it wont make you compulsory to have the fullboard package including meals. We saved alot! We booked for aircond room with breakfast only. Wish Bayu Dive Lodge will provide Malaysian breakfast set in the future 😁. The only thing lacking at Teluk Dalam is that you hardly find fishes close to the beach. If you are looking for beautiful fishes and corals, trek into the jungle located at the back to PIR beach and Coral View Island Resort beach. The trek is worth to explore! Only took us about 25 to 30 minutes trekking. You may see big lizards while trekking 😃 but dont worry they are nice creatures and they fear humans. Not so much of hiking. We just wore sandals. You have to pass high grass areas in the beginning only for about 10minutes then the trek ll be much clear. In case you are not the trekking-type person, can easily took up a water taxi with price of about rm18/way to the beach. Water taxi are everywhere along the beach so can easily go to any other beaches for those who wish to save money by not taking any snorkeling package or trip. Loving Perhentian!!

I will never stay in Tropicana again. The bangladesh staff at the reception has no manners at all, plus our room is too far from the beach and need to hike with our huge backpacks before arriving. Is this what we paid for????? The room also doesn’t meet my expectations, too small and hot and too expensive. Not worth every penny. If anyone wants to stay here pls think twice. Not suggested I swear

The location is excellent despite the beach is a short walk away. staff are very helpful. very calm and tranquil. not much noise around. during the day, there is a lot of hammock and bench to relax ourselves under the shades. the food is not too expensive. overall prices is more or less about the same as the stalls around it. their barbecue is excellent. the sauce is amazing. oh, don't worry about not enough cash on your hand because they also accept debit/credit card payment. they also replaces 4 bottles of small drinking water bottles everyday for us. the room is cosy and clean. mini fridge, safe deposit box are available. hotwater and air-conditioning also available 24/7. downside is the bathroom slighty smelly but very clean. definitely will be staying here again if we are going to perhentian island.

The excursions were organised and guided in a professional manner. We managed to swim with turtles and sharks and really enjoyed the excursions. The food at Alunan was amazing. Much better quality and tastier when compared to other resorts on Perhentian Island. The were friendly and extremely courteous . Big thank you to Yana, Mun, Deewan, Abe and especially Nur (we loved his icecream!). Professional, helpuful and always willing to assist with a smile. We managed to tour the Perhentian Islands as Mun was always willing to take us around. Loved all the beaches on the islands. Crystal clear waters, fish in abundance and just natural untouched beauty. This is a special place. We will definitely be back.

Resort has a very nice beach (compared against others that we've been to at Perhentian islands), staff is amazingly friendly and helpful (upon arrival we had an issue with leaking handshower - it took 10 mins for someone to come over to see the problem and next 10 mins to fix it by replacing it with a new one). When doing the booking ourselves, we noticed people raising 2 issues: quality of food and cleanliness. In the resort we ate only breakfasts and these were great (big variety that will fit everyone's tastes). When it comes to cleanliness on a daily basis our room was nicely cleaned up. Overall we are very satisfied with our stay at this resort and if we come back to Perhentian Islands (which I very much hope for!) then we would definitely stay at Perhentian Island Resort again.

The breakfast buffet is very well provided, there is something for everyone. The screening of a film every night is nice, and if it bothers us there are other quiet places on the beach. The "bad" scores due to the almost total absence of wifi is not justified. If you need to connect, the reception is there to meet your needs (check-in online for flights, printing boarding passes, booking boat return...). We are on the Perhentian Islands, being cut off from the world is delicious-looking. Thank you Ombak!

strongly recommend. One of the best hotels in Perhentian Besar!!!! Also very close to Perhentian Island Resorts, where there are better beach. Provide very good snorkeling and diving service, facilitated with mini-market, souvenir shop, dining hall, etc.

Friendly staff. Given Perhentian hotels are expensive compared to KL and many other parts of Asia, this was great value. Quiet beach but if you want the noise and party of long beach, is only a 10-15 minute walk away. Long beach is probably better for swimming but Senja Bay is located on Coral Bay so there is some coral for snorkeling.

This is by far the best place to stay on the Perhentian Islands. The villa is really lovely and very spacious with an awesome outdoor bathroom and lots of big windows. The breakfast was great with more than enough options and great coffee. Every evening guests get two free alcoholic cocktails, which given the price of alcohol in the Perhentians is really fantastic (it's a MYR140 value for two people every night). The beach is great and they have sun loungers with traditional umbrellas for guests in front of the resort. The beach on Long Beach is the probably one of the bluest water experiences you're ever going to have in your life. The room could have benefited from a fridge, a TV (just to be used to connect a laptop to for a movie at night), a small sound system and an armchair. For the price of the room, these extras should be included. Further, some minor repairs were needed (some lights in the back of the villa in the indoor section of the bathroom were broken, the air-conditioning dripped the last night we were there). Regardless of these issues, of the eight nights we spent in the Perhentians, the two at Bubu Villas were the best in terms of accommodation and service, we felt relaxed and comfortable.
Although this place gets lower review score we have no regrets choosing to stay here as long beach is one of my favourite places to stay on the island. Although not as close to the water compared to Bubu, it's half the price and we seldom spent much time in the rooms anyways. We just needed a place with air conditioning and hot water to shower. (well its half the price) Rooms are very basic so don't expect 5* service. I think its quite underrated and worth the price compared to the other hotels in the same area on long beach. I suggest take a package with no food and have more opportunities to eat around the island.

The price is for the view, not the room quality. For the same price I had extra king bed size in another hotel but this one has very so-so room quality with limited phone coverage (it’s island afterall). You’d spend most of your time outside anyway so there’s nothing to complain. They have the basic needs and please bring your own toiletries

However, it is literally about 10-15 feet from the water once you come down from the second floor. We looked at a neighboring resort and for a garden view room (100+ feet from the water, viewing the other cabins) it was 100 ringgit MORE than the Suhaila Palace! The staff were all friendly. The room was pretty simple (no TV or fridge) but once you get to the island, you will want to spend as little time in your room as possible.

When I arrived, Omar the person who takes care of the bookings showed me my room which was on the 1st stage at the end. When i was in the room, the noise of the generator was so loud I can't even listen to other sounds. I was annoyed since the first reason for me to be in Besar Island was to have a quite and paisible night. I told Omar, this wasn't written on the description and that I wasn't happy with this room. I asked for a discount for the night and he called his boss (a women) to see if she can allow it to me. After some discussion he allowed me 50 rm discount (for two nights) and told me that he will look for another room in another place for the second night since he understands me as a backpacker and also told me his boss was a person only looking for money. I accepted for this night and the day after went looking for another place since Omar didn't look me up for another place. I came back before the checkout time and told Omar that I was leaving. He was angry, taking his head into his hands and told me that we didn't agree on that and that I had to give him back his discount. He told me that I had to give him back 37rm (instead of 50/2=25). I tried to explain him that his calcule was fault but he didn't want to listen. I spent a bad night and paid more what I had to pay. In my whole trips I have never met someone/a place like this one. I highly recommend people not going to this place. Malaysian people are so nice, there are lots of places in the perhentian that are very good and cheaper.

We booked two superior beachfront chalet. The rooms were not situated right on the beach but 2 stairs up but had a balcony with great view. The staff is really friendly and we had a quick check-in. The breakfast buffe that was included was simple. However, the bathrooms really needs to be renovated. There was a smell coming from the drains, the sink was loose and water was dripping on the floor and the showerhead were almost broken. The ceiling over the bed had lots of stains, probably mold since it is rather humid. The beach is nice with white sand and small pieces of corals close to the turquoise water but the sun chairs close to the hotel are not comfortable. The sunchairs at Tuna Bay resort were more comfortable and the beach had less corals which made it easier to get into the water. All together we think that the location is great but that the charge of 450 RM per room per day is a little bit to much compared to the standard of the rooms.
The staffs are very friendly though some of them cant speak english very well but at least they try. Be patient when you stay here because it is run by only 5 staffs. The property is ok for its price though. Since you have to be aware that most of the properties on these islands are expensive.

Went in a group of 4. Staffs were so damn welcoming and easy to mingle with. Cleanliness is decent for a wooden traditional house, there will still be sand on the floor and most probably in your room. But, you are at a beach, what do you expect? Something to take note, there will be no electricity in the day time after 715am if not wrong, everyone automatically wakes up hahah. You would not wanna choose here if u wanna sleep until afternoon as it can get warm in the room without fans turned on.

we stayed here for 3 days and 2 nights. overall experience is way better than expected.

We booked two superior beachfront chalet. The rooms were not situated right on the beach but 2 stairs up but had a balcony with great view. The staff is really friendly and we had a quick check-in.

The price is for the view, not the room quality. For the same price I had extra king bed size in another hotel but this one has very so-so room quality with limited phone coverage (it’s island afterall). You’d spend most of your time outside anyway so there’s nothing to complain. They have the basic needs and please bring your own toiletries

strongly recommend. One of the best hotels in Perhentian Besar!!!! Also very close to Perhentian Island Resorts, where there are better beach. Provide very good snorkeling and diving service, facilitated with mini-market, souvenir shop, dining hall, etc.

Nice accomodation ! Experience in little chalet in the island . Staff very nice and helpful . Just not close to the beach maybe 2 min but still good ! At the end the owner lady help us a lot for few things and we even had a shower before taking the boat back to jetty ! Very nice she helped you for whatever you need !

Friendly staff. Given Perhentian hotels are expensive compared to KL and many other parts of Asia, this was great value. Great location (many rooms have sea view from balcony) and the restaurant was over the water. Rooms were clean and power was on all day. 5 minute walk to ferry jetty. Quiet beach but if you want the noise and party of long beach, is only a 10-15 minute walk away. Long beach is probably better for swimming but Senja Bay is located on Coral Bay so there is some coral for snorkeling.

I rated full stars bcs I want my review to be heard. If I rate 1 star no one will ever notice my comments. This is the worst chalet I ever stayed in Perhentian Island.

I suggest take a package with no food and have more opportunities to eat around the island.

first off, forget what you think is 5 star. the perhentian islands are basic! some of the other 'hotels' offer next to nothing with no spirit either, and we were overwhelmed when we arrived at bubu. the staff were so friendly, helpful, and the rooms were really comfortable. the beach makes up for anything else, and anyone who gripes about the hotel really shoul...

Traveler impressions of Perhentian Island
I like the place because the Islands are pretty far so there is luckily not so many tourists like on Tioman Island and feeling you have almost all the beach for yourself is priceless :)
bring basic medicine (for pain and fever), mosquito repellent and be prepared to be disconnected from the outside world.
A magical island with clear turquoise sea water. Amazing for relaxing getaway; beach and the sun. If you are into snorkelling and diving; this is your must visit island.
It is actually quite easy to get there, juz like what everyone said, once i reached The airport there was this counter selling taxi+ boat tickects for RM(2 ppl).
the boat ride was about 45mins, depending on which island, Perhentian Besar and Kecil was faster. I actually had most of my meals at Cora Bay view, juz walk across the jetty, there is this small restaurant at the back, a CHinese owner, and his food is not bad. PIR's food was juz soso..from what i saw. But PIRhas definitely the best beaches, so for families, i would recommend PIR.
It's remote and doesn't have much in the way of amenities. It's fine for a few days, but unless you're a hardcore diver you might tire of it.
I had a nice stay there and I'm glad I went but in the future I'd choose Langkawi over Perhentians for a holiday.
Tropical paradise! Snorkelling trips extremely cheap compared to the rest of Asia (from RM25). Visibility very good (diving and snorkelling).
Good restaurants. Able to meet travellers from all cultures and walks of life. Easy accessible from Kota Bharu.
Not really worth staying on the island. Better to book day-trips with the companies at Kuala Besut jetty and enjoy the better resorts and hotels on mainland.
Have you ever heard "crystal clear water"? you can find the best example of it in Perhentian island!
Unfortunately the beach was not so clean, just outside the hotels it was, but apart from that there was a lot of litter.
The water was turqoise and crystal clear, nice for diving and snorkling, which are the main reasons for people to come there. The quality of the food and the restaurants is a big part of the experience for me when I stay in a quiet plase relaxing. Unfortunately there where not many dining options on this beach, and none of them were good. They were okey, but I did not have any really good food while staying her
If your goal is to get away from the city, this is the place for you. You can enjoy privacy, relaxation, and an occasional swim with fishes if you so choose.
One side of the island is quieter than the other. Both sides are reachable on foot via a 15 minute hike. Long Beach is the place to be for some night life.
it is an island filled with beautiful corals. clear sea. a great place to relax and get out from the hectic city.
Go out and enjoy the sea and the sun. Food in the hotel is expensive. However, you can walk to restaurant in water colour resort for food.
I think it's the cheapest in Perhentian besar island. Most of the restaurant does not servce alcohol because there are with halal (moslem food compliance) status. So, bring your own if you want to drink!
Besar island: Beach, swimming, snorkeling, relaxing, good food especially restaurant: Watercolours and Mamas
like a postcard for the landscape like an american movie for the parties, like a casino for the expenses.
Two islands Kecil and Basar, little and big. Big has nicer hotels, however these are at most 3 stars, so don't expect luxury.
However, the islands themselves are the attraction, amazing coral and sea-life. Warm, crystal clear waters and sultry temperatures make this one of the best islands to relax. There is very little alcohol on the islands, so it's far more chilled than Thai islands.
The island is without any doubt a little paradise. You can swim, enjoy the sun, simple but good food (although no alcohol, go to the Reef for some beer).
Boat traffic in between the two islands could be less. I also saw a water plane practice take off's and landings there, which is ludicrous if you know Perhentian is a nature preservation area. The coral near the Besut island is more or less dead, but still a lot of fish. Take a boat taxi to other beaches e.g. shark point e.o. or take a dive with the guys from the coral view diving school (Go with the pro's, the best one on the island, thanx Stan and Karel!) to D'Lagoon or other interesting diving sites. You will see a lot more that way.
A beautiful small island to recharge the batteries. Great places to eat and drink. Perfect stop for solo visitors and couples.
Good water sports activities also
If you've not been there before, it's worth visiting but I might not go back again as the place is a bit too crowded
Did not spend much time outside of the resort, but the beaches and water are incredible. Any type of nightlife entertainment can only be found on Perhentian Kecil.
Its a wonderful place. you will nvr regret going there for snorkeling bcz the water thr is clear.. nice place for diving as well as hiking.
This island is not fully developed, so very good for those who just want some relaxations. If you want to have a more colorful holiday, this might not be the best place.
food is better in the small island. but I prefer the beaches in the big island so decided to stay in the big island.
taxi is available between 2 islands, and taxi fee is between 10 RM to 30 RM.

More about Perhentian Island
The other, much smaller islands are located off of Kecil and are only day trip destinations for those looking to experience the beautiful corals and uninterrupted beaches. Activities other than just seeing the nature and beauty of these islands is strictly prohibited, and therefore these smaller island tend to be a lot less crowded.
Beautiful coastlines and pristine beaches are definitely to be expected at either island, but the cheaper accommodations and the more popular Perhentian Beach are located in Kecil, the smaller and more accessible island.
