Taupo is beautiful. The Wairaiki Terraces (Geothermal pools) are divine!! The jet boat ride to the bottom on Huka Falls is awesome.
We were only there 1 night unfortunately. The lake is gorgeous. Will be going back for a longer stay next time.
If you're visiting NZ for it's great outdoors, you have to stop at Taupo. And I'd recommend stopping, rather than staying, unless your a really nature lover.
There is a wealth of beauty to be found in viewing the lake, but I'd rather spend more time in Rotorua soaking in the hot pools and taking in the local culture. Visit Taupo, take photos, drink in the atmosphere, then hit the next spot.
Relaxing, exciting, beautiful place. Walking in the relaxing park, jungle trekking, bungee jumping, speedboat riding or just chilling at the restaurant or cafe.
..everything seems to be beautiful and good in Taupo. Totally in love with it.
It's just beautiful and the people are so friendly, there is plenty to see and do - without costing a lot of money.
jlots of fun to be had here, as well as very relaxing environment
Taupo is a nice city on the banks of Lake Taupo. There is so much to see and so many activities to do.
Fantastic stay and lots of activities undertaken!
Modern, clean environment with outstanding attractions including Prawn farm. mountain views, Huka falls and the lake
A lovely relaxing place to visit but also has a lot of activities you can explore at your leisure or for the more adventurous adrenalin junkies there is also plenty to do.
We where there for a sporting feature so didn't have a lot of free time to go too far afield but enjoyed what we did visit. Would have liked to go out on the lake to see the Maori carving, loved the falls and the dam.
Excellent location, nice clean city, prawn parkwell worth a visit alow plenty of time fishing for prawns is magic, daily spilling of dam into river well worth a visit, drive through geo thermal field to see natural forces being harnessed for uswell worth the time ,every thing handy to town
Friendly locals, easy to find your way around, shops suited to many activities you may be interested in doing.
Handy for day trips to other areas. Stunning views of lake and mountain ranges regardless of the season.
Situated on the edge of Lake Taupo, the town itself offers good dining and shopping facilities. Within easy reach are the Waraiki thermal walk and the Craters of the Moon where one can experience the geothermal nature of the area.
The river and Huka Falls, and the lake itself, provide opportunities for water activities. One can also skydive in the local area.
A fantastic range of restaurants amazing food. Taupo is quite central to many attractions. An the view while driving takes your breath away.
Huka falls area is fantastic ,helicopter ride and the huka jet is great ,pubs and restaurants are fabulous
A lot of cultural experiences in and around Taupo to be found. A lot of activity on the lake for tha adventurous person.
Taupo is a place of incredible natural beauty. The lake and surround rivers and streams have some of the cleanest, clearest water you will find anywhere, and there are a lot of walks and natural beauty to explore.
I recommend the walk from the Spa Park to the Huka Falls, it's about an hour each way if you take your time, and at the beginning/end there is a hot stream with some natural rock pools which is awesome for swimming in.
I don't understand why Taupo stores close so early or don't even open on a Sunday. This town could benefit so much more from people travelling and is well positioned as a convenient rest stop.
I have often stopped on Sunday afternoons travelling up from Wellington to find cafes and stores closing at 3pm.
We enjoy our dinner at one of the buffet Chinese restaurant and there is no shopping during night time because all shops are closed.
So, it is good to enjoy and relax in private thermal pool in the room.
Several local restaurants have won the “Beef and Lamb Cuisine Award” with many serving wild food dishes on their menus.
While you won’t find trout on the menu most restaurants will be more than happy to prepare and cook them for you. Just ring beforehand to let them know you’ll be bringing in your fresh catch.
many kinds of restaurant, big and beautiful lake,a lot of accomodation.very relaxing place.clean air also!
Drove into taupo, road access was wonderful. Visited thermal springs. Close to Rotorua for day trip.
