More about Palma de Majorca

On the southern coast of the island of Majorca, Palma de Majorca is capital of the entire chain of Balearic Islands. Half of the residents on the entire island live here, and accommodation in Palma de Majorca makes up the majority of the hotels on the island.

Several tourist attractions are right here in the city of Palma. The city was built by the Moors in medieval times, and ruins of this early kingdom include Bellver Castle and the Arab Baths in the historic quarter. The list of important tourist attractions goes on to include La Seu cathedral, a water park and the tourist village of Poble Espaynyol.

Traditionally, the harbor at Palma de Majorca was island’s major source of income, and it still teems with yachts and tourist vessels today. On land, Palma is the center of cosmopolitan life in the Balearics, with an exciting area of dance clubs, beach bars and hip after-hours hangouts near the five-star hotels in Palma de Majorca. These commercial zones line the waterfront near the harbor and are busiest from July to August.

Palma is also the likeliest point of entry for a holiday in the Balearic Islands. The Palma Airport lies a short distance east of the city center and sees more than 20 million passengers annually. There are dozens of hotels near Palma de Majorca Airport, populating luxury beach resorts on the outskirts of the city center.
