Stayed in the studio . Loved it. Very comfortable Nice little balcony to enjoy views of mountains and animals in back yard. Interesting little place across road with old cars, little retro shop and timber furniture. Make sure you take food as no shops there. Pub 10 minutes down road.
Hi Sue, Was a pleasure to meet you both and are very happy that you both enjoyed staying in Burkes Pass Village we sure are lucky to have a beautiful view where we live. You should see it when we have snow it is stunning. Thank you all the best Megan & Phil
Amazing host made us felt really special, highly recommended this place!”
We arrived a bit late outside the normal check-in hours, the host Phil & Megan stayed back waiting for us. We told the host we hadn't have dinner yet and asked if they would recommend any place in Lake Tepako town centre or anywhere around would still open but was told they would all closed by that time. Then about 5 mins after we got into our room, Phil & Megan came in and offered us handmade toasts & instant noodles!!! This nice surprise made us all touched and we couldn't thank them enough for making our stay sooo special. We felt blessed to have met them albeit a brief encounter. If you are visiting Lake Tekapo or driving through Burkes Pass, look no further!
It was our pleasure to help you all out that night. We are very happy you all in enjoyed your stay and i hope you continue to have a great holiday. Thank you Megan & Phil
We stayed at studio which does not have kitchen, and there is no public kitchen, however, it offers microwave which you still can make food with. The owner is friendly, she showed us her sheeps and other animals, we had fun with her! We also had breakfast with wonderful Mountain View. I like this pleasant place! p.s. It is 15 mins driving to Lake Tekapo.
Thank you Chinghui, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay. There is also a BBQ in the garden near the studio. It IS a wonderful mountain view, Mt Burgess.
We had really nice stay here.the view is so beautiful here.we had welcome with cute cat n sheep in front of our house.the facilities is complete.but sadly we couldnt hve a look at the gallery and didnt had chance to take picture with sheep.
Thank you Samsi, we are glad you enjoyed your stay.
We loved our stay. The room was perfectly warm and the shower was a plus. They were well stocked with coffee, green tea, sugar and hot chocolate, you only need to have your own bottle of milk. They had plates and other necessary cutlery, and toaster and a fridge. We loved this stay...
Ridhima - thank you for the great review and we are so glad you enjoyed your stay. Julie @ Burkes Pass
We were greeted by the owner with smiles despite arriving after hours (past 8pm). Such a lovely little oasis - historic church across the street and shoppes set up to remind us of the days of ole. Alpacas even greeted us the next morning! The 2BR suite was immaculate! It had everything we needed - a small living room and a kitchenette. Couldn't have been happier.
Thank you Loren, we are glad you enjoyed our motel! kind regards, Julie @ Burkes Pass
Great Little Spot”
This place is very clean (and we are extremely particular when it comes to cleanliness) and a great value for the money. The host was so nice and accommodating and even called over a couple of baby sheep for us to see and pet when we asked about them.
Thank you Noble, we are fussy with cleanliness too, very important in a motel. Kind regard, Julie
Such an amazing place with amazing people. We arrived later than check in time. Informed the staff via email earlier. The location of the motel is almost in the middle of nowhere which added a mystery to the place. Sheeps as pets and a beautiful gallery up front with a retro/vintage shop across the street. It was really something out of the ordinary. and we loved it. The room was comfortable with electric blankets, microwave, utensils, hot flask, and water heater provided.
Thanks so much Ghangaa, we are glad you enjoyed your stay.
Wonderful place ”
Quite a distance to town. Apart from that, everything was really great. Spacious unit and bathroom. Facilities are very well equipped, you could stay there for few days and everything you need is right there! Julie and Jan and their dog, Rosie are very friendly. Julie even turned on the heater in our room in anticipation for our arrival as it was very cold that night. The motel is adorned with Julie's art pieces which makes the place very personalized. Good deal, considering the hotels in Lake Tekapo town, are much more expensive.
Thanks so much Eunice, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay.
What more could you ask for”
In the middle of the beautiful Mackenzie country, friendly host , comfy bed, warm room, hot showers, no cell phone reception , although wifi is provided (which we didn't use) and a short 20 minute drive to busy commercial lake tekapo The only con I can think off is no milk being provided when we stayed
Thank you Rohan! we do have milk for our guests, free, on request. Apologies we hadn't realised you required some.
Best experience ever”
I chose to stay along the route (from Queenstown to Christchurch) and instead of at Te Anau, which accomodations are quite expensive), Burke Pass is a better place to spend a night. Owner Julie (who is a great artist!) gave us a warm welcome and the whole setting - a country living in the alp - was a really a pleasent surprise. The room was clean and the facilities were good. The view of the mountains in morning with fresh white snow was stunning, and it appearer to be only at the 'backyard'. I wish to stay longer.
Thank you Mohd, stay for longer next time!
Nearest accommodation out of Lake tekapo”
We made our booking a day in advance and we're really lucky to have found this accommodation. We were not able to get any accommodation at Lake tekapo itself on such a short notice and the price was relatively cheaper The place is very pretty, the owner is an artist and the room is very prettily designed. Love the huge butterflies models along the wall. The rooms smell really nice and is very clean. The owners also provided very clear instructions and checked with us what time we will be arriving just so that we know what to do when we arrive. They also kept a few sheep and the back and you can see the view of the mountains from the back. Room does not come with stove for us to do any cooking, but does provide the usual microwave and cutlery. Do note that internet connectivity at burkes pass is non existent with the mobile phone. They do provide WiFi however only for a limited time. Drive to Lake tekapo was about 10minutes. Easy drive even at night. Overall the stay is wonderful, love the toiletries provided too.
Thanks so much Ai, we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Burkes Pass. We offer free WIFI daily for 18 hours, from 3pm to 9am.
22 km from Lake Tekapo; just a clean, quiet place to sleep
HI Frank, Thank you for taking the time to give us a review. Regards Megan @ Phil

Owner gave us a warm welcome , and really helpful .. if I go Lake Tekapo again , I will stay there again ...
Thank you so much, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay.
Stop over from Christchurch to Wanaka”
One night quick stop, very clean and spacious room.
Thank you Tim!
Worth the money”
Loving the studio room a lot!
thank you Datuk.
Very good place to stay with the family
Thank you so much Saurabh, we are delighted you enjoyed your stay at Burkes Pass. Happy Travels! best regards, Julie - Owner
Not far from lake tekapo. there was a few lovely looking sheep staying behind the accommodation which greeted us when we came back. Room is facing the bbq facilities too which we didn't use. Car park just outside the room which is very convenient. Room comes with basic kitchen facilities like kettle, microwave and cutleries - just nice for our use. Mini balcony just outside the room was pleasant facing the bbq area and the mini sheep farm.
Thank you Lee, we are so glad you enjoyed your stay.
Cute. Perfect short stay”
Room was clean, linen was lovely, heater was on for a late arrival :) A nice little stay here. Only negative was the shower. Impossible to get any pressure or the right temperature. The struggle is real...
Thank you Bianca. The showers had uneven water pressure, which is an issue in this rural area. But the good news is we have replaced that system with new gas hot water - and the pressure is fantastic! much easier to use now.
