Old hotel with a flare”
Hotel is pretty old, most of the woods have shown significant sign age. However, room is in perfect clean condition. Location would be a negative point, as you will need to walk quite a bit before you get in the city. Thank god we extended our car rental. Overall, still pretty pleasant stay, although the place falls below our expectation.
Decent stay in Christchurch”
It has good chain-hotel standards. However, the room was quite dated and not much equipped - no microwave, no heater but there is an air-con. A little disappointed especially compared with our stay in Hilton Queenstown - same price but different experience.
Excellent Hotel for Relaxation”
We enjoyed our stay & will recommend for others.
Very comfortable and well-appointed hotel. Bit of a walk from the town centre but adjacent to the park and the excellent Botanic Gardens. Good breakfast with plenty of choice - including fresh fruit and good coffee.
A very relaxed pleasant atmosphere makes this an ideal centre for a Christchurch visit. It’s a lovely walk into the city through Hagley Park but buses are easily accessible too. The gardens are beautiful and the pool is warm and sheltered from wind. All the staff are extremely friendly, helpful and efficient and the restaurant serves good, if fairly traditional, meals. I felt dry comfortable to be staying alone.
Busy hotel. ”
In centre of the town, next to the park.
Really like the place. It was quiet, but with a car, was easy to access most of Christchurch. The fillet steak at the restaurant was fabulous! Wendy the waitress at the restaurant was excellent - always cheerful even when working on Christmas Day.
Hotel needs some updating, it looks rather old”
Rooms are okay, although lobby area looks rather old, needs a fresh coat of paint. Hotel grounds are nothing to rave about, breakfast was just okay, pool is very small. I don't think I would stay there again.
Staff were excellent in this Interesting Hotel”
We had a lovely afternoon & evening & delicious meal in the restaurant. Courtesy car took us into town even though it was not scheduled. Welcome cookies a nice touch. Staff went out of their way to provide a efficient service Last night of our trip so a nice finale
Really helpful staff”
We had a really bad trip this time due to weather conditions and cancelled planes, and this hotel saved us. I was extremely tired when we arrived there, they did everything they can to get our room ready. They gave us the most delicious cookie of my life too. It feels like a chateau, European vibe with New Zealand green. Plus, best restaurant in Town -Dux- is at 6-7 min walking distance.
old fashioned charm”
after reading some not so flattering reviews I was hesitant to stay here but just about everything else was booked out or not suitable. I found this hotel to be a classic old style hotel with large rooms quality bathroom supplies and large beds, this is a large hotel with a restaurant and bar and a pool. set among lovely gardens and across from Hagley Park and located very close to the centre of Christchurch.
Very nice stay, we were only there one night, but have stayed there many times before, always consistent and warm rooms in the winter. Looking a little dated these days, probably due for a reno, but overall still comfortable.
Room for night attending function there”
The hotel was quite expensive for the room we had. Got updraded to a deluxe room. Needed to be refurbished as all older style furniture. There was only one towel and one robe for the two of us. Did not use restaurant as attending a function that night. Both of us were sick the next morning and day possibly food poisoning from the supper at the ball. Not a very happy stay for us.
Peacefull and quiet with unique architecture ”
Our room was spotlessly clean with all the little extras that count from toothbrush and bath salts to biscuits and being able to open the windows for fresh air was a bonus. We would wholeheartedly recommend the Garden restaurant for the food and service and the extra touch of fresh flowers on our table.
Great Service with lovely rooms.”
This hotel is in a great location, near Riccarton and Hagley Park. The staff are very helpful and the service is very good. The Chateaux feels neither French or Kiwi-you could be anywhere in the world really when staying here. The spa faciities are currently in repair, so no pampering onsite. The public spaces are lacking in lively decor and provide little opulence. A cosy stay.
Nice hotel & great service in central Christchurch”
The staff was very helpful. I was upgraded to a very lovely suite. The room was wonderful with a view upon the gardens. The hotel has a dated feel about it but that is understandable given the situation with the earthquake and subsequent tremors.
hotel is well located to parks and gardens, the staff are friendly and helpful. the room that we had was located with garden outlook which was nice and the hotel gardens and flower beds are well maintained and make for a very pretty setting if you take afternoon tea on the lawns etc. the rooms while reasonably comfortable are in need of up dating and are quite tired, tv's in the room are very old and the tv reception was not good. the cafe was bright and airy and the staff were nice however we found the house bar very old and tired.
Great Hotel for its age”
hotel is old but the rooms were very clean and comfortable to stay in, staff was very good especially when they did not have our booking in their system! once we show them our voucher from agoda that was ok and we had no problems after that.
Clean, modern hotel with friendly staff.”
The hotel is of modern design and good appearance. We purposely booked a hotel with a restaurant as we were staying over Christmas. To be greeted at check-in by being told breakfast on Christmas Day finished at 830, there was a brunch in the restaurant at lunchtime but it was fully booked and the dinner in the restaurant in the evening was also fully booked. That left us, tired after a 10 hour flight in an unknown city with no meals on Christmas Day. On Christmas Eve, we were told they were doing another sitting for dinner so we could have a table at 830 pm. The restaurant was good, the service pleasant and efficient and the menu and food of high quality. To add to our woes, we then had several earthquakes but the staff were calm and efficient and the odd repairs that were needed were quickly done.
Quiet residential neighborhood”
although the hotel looks dated and the decor tired and a bit stodgy, it is conveniently close to the airport and only separated from the cbd by lovely hagley park. the rooms are spacious and sufficiently equipped. the comfortable beds allowed for a good night's sleep in this quiet part of town. staff was helpful to direct us to a nearby eatery as the restaurant of the hotel looked uninviting with its dark colors and old-fashioned decor.
