Loved it. Would definitely come back. Transformed my own perception of India ”
Read loads of reviews prior to coming and was prepared for a mediocre stay due to reviews I'd read. Arrived at 4am and were prepared to hang about in reception until check-in time at 1pm. Our room was arranged straight away. At the time of arrival we had no idea about the situation with the rupee and the staff ensured we were looked after and this didn't impact on our holiday. Whilst we were here maintainance work was being carried out, this of course has to be done and has to be a positive for future bookings. As two women arriving in India for the first time we loved it and Cherai Beach resorts played a major part in that experience. I couldn't fault any of the staff, from housekeeping to management they were all above expectations. We would definitely recommend and come back again. Pauline and Joanne, Manchester England
Nice quite location”
Very relaxing away from all the road noises of India. Bungalows spacious great choice of English channels on tv. Sunbeds provided on beach across the road bu the lovely security staff. Only downfall with this hotel is the WIFI only in reception and very poor. Not acceptable in 2016.
EXCELLENT-VERY FRIENDLY-VERY HELPFUL STAFF,”
THE LOCATION-EXCELLENT.VERY HELPFUL,FRIENDLY AND INFORMATIVE STAFF.VERY CLEAN ROOMS.CHERAI BEACH RESORTS COULD NOT HAVE LOOKED AFTER ME ANY BETTER-I HAVE DISABILITY AND I WAS TRAVELLING ALONE SO THEY LOOKED AFTER ME 100%.I HAVE DEFINATELY RECCOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ALL MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS.I AM VERY LUCKY TO DISCOVERED THIS PLACE-THANK-YOU TO INTERNET.
Nicelly situated hotel near the beach”
We liked the hotel, not just because it is situated near the beach. The hotel area is quiet and nicely arranged. The food is very good, staff service minded, the rooms clean and comfortable, and we highly recommend trying the massage.
Absolutely fantastic. The hotel is very close to the beach and has a fantastic landscape. Helpful staff. The staff needs to be attentive to details , we had a issue where a ab was booked 2 days in advance and on the day of the travel we found out that the cab was not booked , which resulted in an delay of 1 hours. The food quality and spread at the restaurants needs to be improved.
Picturesque and pleasant stay”
We really enjoyed our stay here and our first impressions were great from check in to being shown to our fishermans hut - we chose non AC which was fine for us as the fan was quite powerful if not a little noisy. Our hut was really spacious and we loved its authentic traditional Keralan design. Our rate included breakfast and we were very impressed with the choice and quality, we dined here for dinner too a couple of times and were impressed with the food - it exceeded our expectations for a hotel buffet. The staff are very friendly and attentive. To the right of the hotel a few minutes walk is a T junction which serves as the resort hub and there are a couple if restaurants that serve amazing seafood for a few hundred rupees. It's great that this hotel has a bar on site. Our only negative was that you can only access the free wifi in reception where you are not allowed to have a drink. Overall a lovely, relaxing place to stay.
A well maintained resort”
The ambience and landscaping is very good in this spacious property. Rooms are very clean with modern bathroom. However, we should opt for Sunrise villa to get a spacious room. Food is covering continental and local cuisine. Even the high end rooms are reasonably priced. But, book consciously since I could have got better price if I had booked only couple of days prior to the stay. Very rarely the property is fully booked and thereby, we get better price at last minute deal.
Comfortable, friendly, romantic.”
We stayed in a fisherman villa, right on the corner of the back waters. We had a bed net to protect us from mosquitoes which were very much appreciated! In our villa we had excellent views of the back water which we took a very enjoyable boat trip. The restaurant had a very good selection of food, the beach was mesmerising and quiet. We enjoyed looking at all the fish in the waters and the massive round comfortable bed!
Peaceful, relaxing, excellent introduction to area”
Generally really good. Restaurant staff very friendly and welcoming in contrast to the staff at reception. Manager personally very helpful when my husband got food poisoning. Hotel in great location to interact more with the locals than other tourists.
Amazing ,quiet location, right on the beach front.”
The staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. It was very quiet and peaceful. Very chilled and tranquil. Hardly any tourists. A few couples and singles and one scandinavian family. Perfect.
Great location, service and stay”
we arrived early, 05.30, and wondered what they would do with us,until their advertised check-in time, but we were immediately shown to our room, and not charged any extra at the end of our stay.our accomodation was basic, but clean and satisfactory, we were, after all, only sleeping in the room. the restaurant was fine, though the evening buffet(alternate nights)was a little limited. two main complaints, concerned a problem in the room with the toilet, for which no proper action was taken (but this was on the last day we were there) and an incident with a local youth using one of the hotel sunbeds on the beach, which though reported to reception and the security man, was ignored and could have become more unpleasant.
Very beautiful resort”
Beautiful surroundings with palm tree and tropical plant-lined lagoons to walk around in the resort and hammocks and watch towers to explore. Room was very nice and was always hot water. Rooms were cleaned daily, beds changed and new towels, excellent house-keeping. Beach towels and parasols available to use on beach free of charge, and security guard would come and check on you while on the beach and move on any staring Indians. Beach was nice, although have seen better beaches elsewhere, and too strong currents to swim in the sea. Reception was helpful and booked drivers and excursions for us. Only complaint is that although the food was very tasty, I am allergic to chilli and they use a lot of it down south! I kept asking them for 'no spice' and 'no chilli' but it always was too spicy and made me ill. They did have a few bland options on the menu but it was a shame that they couldn't just make milder versions of their Indian dishes.
it was an experience in itself ...quite enexpected one ...a place worth recommending to near & dear ones ..what a greenery @ the resort ..synonymous to kerala....& the cake on the iciing is its aurvedic spa centre ...
great concept not quite right”
This resort is a great concept but not quite right. We stayed in a fisherman hut (room 218). It was great except for the night visits from water rats. When you have a thatch roof you still need to have the wall have a seal to the roof. The staff were nice but not great. The buffet was great.
Lovely room Nice location”
Wonderful stay at Cherai....we have booked fisherman villa non A/C and the room was simply superb. We just love our stay there. The bathroom is value added....can witness the fish while bathing...WOW.
Clean rooms, courteous staff, ecologically friendly, close access to one of the most beautiful walkable beaches in the world, Cherai Beach Resort Cochin has plenty of bang for the buck. Close access to a multitude of shops, bars, and ice cream stands, one could easily chill here for a week without getting bored. Security is excellent but the resort is not ensconced away from the community, a huge plus for the inquisitive global nomad.
At this tranquil place, you will find everything you need to kick back and relax. Nestled between the beach at the Indian ocean and the river system (backwaters) on the other side, you will get a nice bungalow in an well-kept garden. If you are lucky, there will even be a little island with your own private hammock. It's great after visiting a hectic Indian city. For thrills go to nearby Kochi, have a trip on the backwater or just grab a local bus for an adventurous drive through the villages. The restaurant is great, the staff are very helpful and accommodation and food is cheap, compared to Delhi for instance - enjoy.
Loved the time we got by overselves”
A huge disappointment ”
Dirty towels, dirty bed linen, filthy (and non-working) fridge, no hot water in shower for 4/5 of our stay, disgustingly dirty bathroom; website said there were two (or 3) restaurants, but there is just one, serving bland lukewarm slop. The water channels throughout Resort stank of foetid water. On the plus side, great massages. Been travelling through Southern India for nearly three weeks, and this was the only awful place we stayed at. Avoid.
Not as good as the photos”
This hotel is built on mosquitoe ridden stagnant pools of water. The smell is horrendous. The restaurant also sits on stagnant water so doesn't make you want to eat there. Breakfast was ok. The bar is a dingy black hole but at least you can get a beer or wine, no gin and tonic which makes me laugh, after all it was the drink of the time. Our room 511 was good and had most facilities except a safe . The air con worked and so did the fridge unlike other rooms I heard. The beach is right opposite but the water comes to the rocks so you cannot just sit there. (Go up the beach left or right). On a positive note the pool is lovely although no filtering was done while we we were there. Staff seemed friendly. Wouldnt go back Im afraid
