Más sobre Bogota

The capital city of Colombia, Bogota is a vibrant city full of contradictions, at each turn offering an exciting blend of late-night entertainment, wonderful colonial architecture and the superb Colombian cuisine. El Dorado International Airport is a busy hub that connects Bogota to much of the world, and is conveniently located within easy reach of the city center as well as many airport hotels. Most high-end Bogota city center hotels provide pick-up services from the airport, though taxis and buses are also frequent and inexpensive.

Visitors to Bogota will quickly see that this city is a contradiction of old and new, with centuries-old plazas and cobblestone streets alongside towering skyscrapers and modern shopping malls. The city lies in the mountains of the Andino region at an altitude of 2600 meters, which makes for cool evenings and mild daytime temperatures.

La Candelaria is the old town of Bogota, and it’s this neighborhood that shows Bogota at its most charming. The colonial buildings have been very well restored, and many Bogota hotels are housed within classic Spanish mansions built at the peak of the Spanish empire. The bars, cafes, and restaurants found here are equally as charming, offering a very high standard of international cuisine. This area is also home to the unique Gold Museum, or Museo del Oro, which houses a massive collection of artifacts and gold from Colombian history.

One must-see Bogota attraction outside La Candelaria district is the Cerro de Monserrate, which offers stunning panoramic views of the city. The stone staircase to the top is a marvel of colonial engineering. Although there is a funicular railway to the top, hiking the stone-cut path with the locals is highly recommended. Throughout Bogota there are many fine museums, and the Museo Nacional is one of the oldest on the continent, with fantastic exhibits of over 20,000 pieces from the past 2000 years of history.

There’s a lot more to see and do in Bogota, and the best way to discover what else this city has to offer in terms of attractions, landmarks, and hotels is by exploring the interactive map on this page.
