great location, friendly staff”
central location, with very helpful friendly staff. It has to be remembered that this property is extremely old so the heating cooling and infrastructure is quaint. the only annoyance with this booking isn't the accomm but the booking agent that kept underselling the price we paid sending the price we paid
Rooms advertised on Agoda were 45 sq m. Tape measure must have been half size or owned by a leprechaun. Probably not the hotels fault as many of the advertised rooms on Agoda show larger sizes. Staff were friendly and the room was quiet.
A bit noisy but location is good. Walking distance to shopping mall and have many eateries around the hotel. Easy to get transport to move around the Town. I will return to the hotel again on my next trip.
Good staff with friendly”
Location is good. Bad for sound of door.
Dirty, run down, staff chatting with each other instead of customer service. Stuffy no air conditione”
Please review staff training and maintenance.
Poor food for service poor hotel. ”
Whether it was the hotels fault or agoda's, the response from the front desk was not professional at all. When booking the hotel room we were asked if any extras where needed. We asked for a travel cot for our son and as it stated in this section a large bed for ourselves. So of course we clicked this aswel. Only to arrive to no cot and 2 single beds. Not impressed as I had just spent 85£ for the privilege. Apparently it's my problem to sort this out with agoda. Poor service poor food poor hotel. NEVER AGAIN!!
Great if you have a ship to catch ”
Good cheap hotel in town centre 5 minutes walk from Isle of Wight ferry terminal and 1 mile from cruise ships. Old building but well modernised. Very quiet. Excellent shower!
On booking this hotel to take our children to spend their Christmas money in Southampton, we were excited. We left early from Eastbourne to take advantage of the overnight stay. Some stay, we were put in the two rooms closest to the road, but if that wasnt loud enough there was a party going on in the function room directly above. We spoke to the young girl at the desk about this, and despite her politeness, told us that it finished at 1am. They couldnt move us as the hotel was supposedly full. I couldnt have been more angry. After the noise finally abated at 3pm we got some sort of short sleep, which left us really tired for our second day. So in summing up, a really unhappy experience after looking forward so much to sharing some special time with our children. Vincent Hardy
Great location with large rooms & exceptional service”
Staff were very friendly & helpful. Hotel is in a great location . Close to historic Centre, a 5 min taxi ride to cruise terminals and a 10 minute walk to a huge shopping Centre. The room was very big and appropriately furnished for the era the hotel was built in.
Por encima de la media”
This place is very old and very noisy. Our room was on High Street and is noisy night & day. The ear plugs they provided are useless. Poor choice.
Had to change rtoom, since taps fell of the sink. ”
The Toilet was leaking all over the floor. Restaurant served warm yogurt and was really dirty, chairs was stained and looked awful. My room had holes in the walls and smelled really old. I can not recommend this hotel, poor value for money, and a filthy hotel.
location is good”
location is good, but hotel is too old, a little bit noisy and no air condition.
The Dolphin has been in business for a long time and has a great location on the High Street.”
My room was on the ground floor, street level. It was a bit noisy and a bit dark.
Much could be better”
Big rooms, but show wear - ripped curtains, leaky shower, dodgy heating. Had booked for seven nights but needed to cancel the last. The hotel sent me on a spin saying I needed to contact the booking agent. When the booking agent allowed the cancellation, the hotel went back on its word to say, it can't. Can be unreasonable with breakfast - if you forget to pay before breakfast, you pay 4 GBP extra. Some of the staff have limited communication skills in English. Great location, but overall poor experience - would not like to stay again
Auto lock door didn't close perfectly. Hook of the rest room door was not scrued. Next room voice was heared well.
Can't comment on food as we opt out for breakfast.
My room was a route march from reception. (Out of the lift, through a door, down a corridor, turn left through another door, along that corridor, turn left up two narrow stairs, then two more, turn right through another door and the door is in a small cramped vestibule!) Understandable as the hotel is several old buildings linked together. However, I would advise if this is a problem to request a room near to the lift.. Breakfast selection, buffet and a la carte offered a good selection
On the whole Good”
Room a bit tatty, Food should of scored 5 My 7 guests and I were impressed by the quality of the food in the evening on Friday, but not by the lack of table clothes, and the plastic menus. Breakfast on Friday was marred by scrambelled egg with a skin on the top,and fried eggs with hard yolkes. I know I was late down at 0845 but thats not an excuse. Saturday and Sunday it was good with a chef paying attention to the food often. Reception was top class, especially the small blond with glasses who was patient and efficient,I wanted to take her home with me!!!!!! I was initially put off in the room by a bed valance which did not cover the bed underneath, and failed to do this through out my stay, hence tatty. Please put a map showing the way to you car park on line, or let people drive through the arch. I lived in Southampton for the first 21 years of my life, and knew this entrance, but ended up driving around in circles trying to find the way in. You have a way to go though to be as good as the Mercure at Gare du Nord.
Value for money”
I stayed there for one night. I do not have any comment.
