My favourite hotel in New Zealand!”
This hotel epitomises attention to detail! With heated floors, nice fluffy robes, gorgeous scented toiletries and comfortable beds. You can even order a massage to your room...unfortunately no one was available when my husband and I requested the service. The breakfast was phenomenal with an excellent selection of top quality food. The staff were helpful and friendly and provided service with a smile. I love this hotel! They even provided a chocolate every night and gave us a teddy bear. My only niggle would be that they didn’t provide complimentary water bottles in the room which I believe is a necessity. Otherwise, I would recommend this hotel to anyone.
Best customer service we've ever come across.”
Superb service is an understatement plus the complimentary teddy bear and beverage at check-in was an unexpected surprise. Only dined at the cafe which was outstanding and can't imagine how good the restaurant could possibly be. The only complaint with our stay at The George Hotel was the fact we were only there for one night arriving late and had to leave early. Will be booking a longer stay next time.
fantastic hotel with fantastic service!!!!”
this is one of the most beautiful hotels i have ever stayed in! the service was impeccable and the staff was genuinely friendly! the room was beautiful and all amenities were there. the hotel is in front of the park and convenient for those who likes running or exercising in nature. i was very impressed with the personalised service and the really genuine friendliness of every staff. excellent hotel!!!
Great for one night stay in Christchurch”
Great location and easy walking to most places in town. The staff were all very helpful with arranging some trips for us. Comfortable bed and great breakfast.
Pretty run down hotel.”
Group of us stayed here only for one night for medical treatment in town reason. We're normally stay at Montreal which also same group hotel with the George.Unfortunately no vacancy this time. Our sisters and brothers stayed here before, but this time they also said many thing gone down. Room are pretty old and not that clean. The experience at the restaurant wasn't good either, food wasn't nice. Compare to Montreal where much much better at the same price of room and it isn't cheap at the George. For the price you sale. It should be much much better.
Room 106 was horrible location for sleeping. LOTS of noise from frequently used squeaking hallway door outside room, rolling carts in hallway adjacent, second floor noise (carts?), and very bright yard lighting outside room window. Other than that, excellent place.
Wonderful New Year's Eve!”
We checked in the hotel around noon and it was New Year's Eve, our last day of the South Island family vacation. We went to check if we can book a table for our New Year's Eve family dinner. We were told that the restaurant was completely sold out. The restaurant manager was extremely helpful and he managed to find us the table for this special dinner. We had a great time in Christchurch and George Hotel was our highlight! Thank you and Happy New Year!
Tourist in your own city....”
We felt that the evolution menu took food to a completely different level....it was superb. The staff in the lobby and at Pescatore were so attentive ...not missing any detail at all. Superb training...so friendly and inviting.....almost wishing you to have an enjoyable experience during your time there. Certainly a place to visit if you are wanting to experience the best.......
Good location,friendly staff ”
Located within a fifteen minute walking distance to city centre close to the botanic gardens. Take a super shuttle from the airport as taxis can be expensive. The staff are friendly especially Adrian who helped us get to the whale watching trip in kaikoura which by the way is in another city two and half hours from Christchurch.
NZ charm and a surprisingly perfect restaurant”
Lovely stay, everything we needed was catered to with quiet efficiency and wonderful kiwi charm. We didn't expect the quality of the restaurant; impeccable and we didn't even make it to the fine dining upstairs.
BEST HOTEL IN TOWN”
Very nice luxury hotel, beautiful restaurants, great staff. Located near a big park for jogging, walk.....there is no fitness center in this hotel. The other hotels are in the very center of the city, with works and orange plots everywhere so you can't move. This is is the more pratical place to stay.
Potentially best stay in Christchurch.”
Would highly recommend The George for the discerning traveller. The only improvement would be a dedicated bar area for the numerous loud and inconsiderate business reps that obviously frequent this establishment. A sophisticated cocktail at the bar quickly turned the otherwise high quality experience into that equivalent to a pub after a footy final.
Good but expensive”
The hotel is good, especially with it sweet service and food. However, the price is too expensive compared with the facilities. The hotel is not actually worth the money and the size of the hotel just reach 5-star hotel requirement.
Deluxe small hotel in Christchurch”
we had a one-night stay at the george hotel, before a road trip north of christchurch. the hotel is more like a deluxe "motel", considering its location just at the side of a major road, and being a low-rise 3-storey building. our room was on the ground floor, next to the carpark, with the windows directly facing the cars and taxis. at night, we could hear people getting into their cars and driving away. the rooms are fairly nice - although for a "premium executive" room, it seemed rather small and dark. however, it was well-equipped with a high-standard of modern appliances and furnishings. bathroom was small, but bright and clean. nice amenities. front line staff, including concierge, were friendly and helpful.
Lovely boutique hotel and great bathrooms”
liked the little teddy bear on our bed. service was great and friendly. both restaurants are excellent in terms of food and atmosphere, especially the meats (beef and lamb). bathrooms are amazing. exceeded our expectations. def the recommended boutique hotel in christchurch for us!
Service with a smile ”
Stayed for 1 night on arrival into Christchurch from London. Great location- most restaurants and town centre are 5-15 min walking distance. Concierge was extremely helpful. Room was very clean and very good facilities. Breakfast also not too bad but would have expected a bigger spread esp in the bakery items, cold cheeses, etc.
Excellent hotel in good situation”
we certainly had a very enjoyable and positive stay. we found the staff very helpful and all aspects of the hotel's facilities were good. there was free wi-fi; the staff were helpful in arranging excursions and taxis to the airport. the hotel was well-situated for visiting the city. as the city is still recovering from the 2011 earthquake, howver, custmers need to be aware of what to expect in the devastated central area, known locally as the "red zone" ( it is now possible to have a tour around this area)
We really enjoyed our stay albeit it was a short one. We arrived late but received good service and were pleasantly surprised by the nice modern room. It was all fresh and very clean and we completed the stay with a great cooked breakfast. We would have no hesitation recommending the hotel to others
Nice Hotel but Tired Rooms”
Our room at the George was a bit of a disappointment having just come from the Observatory in Sydney. Feeling of a 1970's Travel Lodge with beechwood and formica furniture and very dated bathroom with no working extractor and a shower over the bath with a rather tired shower curtain and dirty grout. (On reporting the problem, Reception said it worked very quietly). However all the bells and whistles are provided with a good selection of tea and coffee, hairdryer, ironing board, kettle, toaster and smellies etc. The bed is not a superking but still very comfortable. Have eaten in both restaurants and had an outstanding and fun meal in their flagship Pescatore which we rated highly. Young and friendly staff who were happy to store bags for us whilst we visited Queenstown. I felt let down with the quality of the room as we paid a similar amount for our suite at the Observatory.
Very good hotel served by good staff
