Small hotel Just outside city centre (20 min walk) Old rooms Old bed ( very bad for Your back) Housekeeping didn’t clean the room Simple but Okay breakfest
The staff & breakfast were excellent. I had a single room at the back, which was very quiet, however the bed was not the best & the shower was poor.
Low key, older hotel. My bed needs a new mattress and 3 days the duvet was straightened but the sheets were not. The desk staff were courteous and helpful
Por encima de la media”
Thistle hotel is a charming old hotel. But I had two problems the first the breakfast. The breakfast was suppose to run from 7:30 to 9:30. I arrived at the dinning room at 9:10 everything was cleared away and no one was around to ask. Second morning I went down at 8:50, thinking I was in Scotland and since I booked the breakfast I'd get a 'cooked breakfast' like you do in every other hotel I've ever been in. I find out I get a continental breakfast, it was the worse continental breakfast I've ever seen. There was nothing to choose from except none existent ham and cheese. It was the Scottish version of how do it on the cheap. Secondly this wasn't the hotels fault but parking my car was a real expensive problem. because there is no on site parking.
Perfect location. Very calm spot, great access to public transportation. Friendly staff
good place, good staff but a bit away from main city”
great stay here, the staff are great and always ready to help, but its a bit of a walk to the central part, princess street of edinburgh. all in all a great stay and those who have said the breakfast is not good, well the breakfast is not that bad to the price they charge you. its a buffet breakfast pretty basic but have fresh fruits and not canned fruits, cereals of various types, tea and coffee , pastries, bread, jams and butter and yogurt and various spread so it is a good breakfast.
Pathetic experience, could not stay and had to arrange alternative hotel”
This hotel doesn't qualify to be a 3 star hotel as mentioned in the websites and the standard is also pathetic. The pictures showing in the advertisement over internet does not match the actual quality and conditions of the room I was offered. Moreover the area and surrounding was also horrible as we found nobody else in the entire path from the main road and not even a single other guest we could see in and around the hotel. It was completely a lonely area full of darkness at 10 pm when we went in and looked like a place for ghosts. I would recommend Agoda to again review the hotel standard before publishing it as a 3 star hotel as I actually could not stay in the place and eventually had to arrange other hotel. This kind of misguidance caused a lot of inconvenience during my travel and I am in a mode of regret to consider Agoda to book this hotel in non refundable conditions.
I lived in Edinburgh for 5 years and moved away, so I was looking forward to our trip back and staying at Thistle. They gave us an upgrade to the suite which was such a pleasant surprise! Absolutely made our stay. Everything was clean and very comfortable.
Very pleased, all round value for money and very efficient staff
Great value for the location ”
Location, staff and shower were all very good! Would definitely use again
Comfortable as long as you don't want a lie-in.”
I was visiting my daughter who has just started at the University of Edinburgh. I was awoken each morning by the voices of the staff from 6.30am onwards which I took as a sign that they wanted me up and out. It was the weekend and I was on holiday so I didn't want to be rushed. That was disappointing.
Good location friendly staff great value for money ”
Location and value for money
My room was dirty with stained carpets .
Quaint hotel with everything you need”
This was a nice place in a very quiet neighborhood it was a bit of a walk (10 minutes to Sainsbury’s or cafes) and over 20 minutes to Waverly Station or the Royal Mile. That said, the exercise was good, the staff efficient and helpful. Breakfast was lovely. My room was quite large for a single and the ensuite bath was quite new and nice as well
Good honest accomodation.
nice little cosy hotel ... no lift though ... friendly staff :)
Clean, friendly and basic I prefer a bath though not a shower but really good bed and spacious room.”
No bath, breakfast served with okd old cutlery was a bit off putting and very basic continental breakfast BUT still goid value and added bonus of their own parking spaces even though it did cost £20 a day but thats a bargain in Edinburgh - but staff very friendly, helpful and relaxed woyld defo consider it again if going to that end if Edinburgh.
Cute, charming, but a little low on services and facilities”
Thistle is a charming old hotel, reasonably well appointed and within walking distance of a lot of good stuff. However, I noticed they skipped cleaning my room on one of the 3 days that I was there - not a big deal since I'm not that messy but still, not something that should have been missed. They have no facilities whatsoever, apart from a breakfast restaurant that seemed a little overpriced for what it offered.
Value for money - ideal location for our needs”
Friendly and helpful staff , large room but showing it’s age , in need of updating. Cooked breakfasts were perfect. Overall good and would stay there again for a weekend break
