Overall good experience”
We really enjoyed our stay here. Managed to get the room for £80 per night which was great. Room was really spacious and clean. Loved the facilities. Only problem for me was the food served in the bar, very overpriced for what it was. My partner had the fish and chips, the fish was so greasy it was unreal. I had the Cajun chicken burger and I could tell it was frozen chicken. Also think every guest should be able to use robes for around the pool, not just people having treatments.
Really comfortable stay and enjoyed the spa
Stayed in room number 9 which was a ‘junior suite’, the room at a glance seemed nice until we looked further and discovered the paint was chipped, there was dust everywhere, one of the posts of the 4 poster bed was missing, there were cigarette buds on the floor of the teracce and the mattress was sunken into the middle, it was supposed to be a king bed but instead it was a double with what seemed a very old mattress! The food was nice from what we had in the restaurant, although my meals didn’t include what they were meant to, the asparagus starter had no crispy chicken skin and my main was supposed to have black pudding mash and it just came plain, the food was nice but very expensive they were charging £28 for a rib-eye steak!! Overall it was a nice night away but we were met with quite a lot of disappointments.
We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Chester”
Historic hotel in the old tradition, but brought up to date and now in a process of continual improvement. The hotel staff are friendly and efficient and obviously happy in their work, which makes for a very good atmosphere. The location is tranquil and even the very large car-park, right by the hotel and surrounded by trees, has a rural feel to it.
Room, pool and spa facilities were brilliant, we could not find fault. The staff were incredibly polite and went out of their way to help. A specialery thanks to Alison on reception who was amazing, her knowledge and help could not have been any better.
Not clean but lovely views ”
My room was very dusty and had spiderwebs hanging off the lamps beside the bed. There were also dust on some of the surfaces. The window didn't shut fully - I'm not sure if it was rustic style or just an old window but it got cold at night for me. The room smelt a bit musty as well. I know this is an old building but I expected it to be well kept especially with the refurbishment they've recently had. Needed some paint on skirting boards - little things like that. The bed was fairly comfortable. The pillows were a little hard and itchy material but it was fine. The pool was really quiet and calm. Fairly large pool so you are able swim lengths. The grounds were lovely as they have kept the old rustic manor style and would be beautiful for weddings. It is out in the country side so you wouldn't be able to walk to any shops but the city centre is around a 15 min drive. The staff were chatty and friendly on the desk and in the lesuire areas.
Absolutely fantastic weekend away”
This is a lovely hotel. My husband & I came for our anniversary but we will definitely be returning with the kids. Our room was enormous! So spacious & beautifully decorated. The staff we’re all lovely and helpful. The breakfast was delicious and plenty of choice. The food in the restaurant was a bit overpriced but delicious. Thanks for a wonderful weekend!!
Beautiful place and fantastic staff nothing is a problem for them. Food is lovely, spa facilities are good grounds are lovely to.
Beautiful location, fabulous hotel”
Rooms are very spacious and comfortable. Hotel is lovely and has great features and is also in a great location with fantastic views. The only downside was that we found some of the staff to be quite rude and not very customer orientated at all, which put us off a bit. Apart from that would definitely return.
A spa and food menus would have been good in the room instead of having to ask
The hotel is a bit tired and is currently undergoing renovations. We ordered room service during our stay which was very disappointing. The bread was stale and the toast was soggy. This put us of opting for breakfast.
Great location and spa ”
The location is perfect not far from Chester town centre (£7 in taxi) and just 5 minutes from Chester Zoo. Lovely spa facilities, terrace bar and lawn to sit out and enjoy a drink or afternoon tea on. Only con was quite cheap feeling bed linen which let down the quality look of the room.
This place never fails me or my husband this as been our 5th stay here and we love it every time and we definitely be coming back I was sad to leave
Food very disappointing. Not much choice and badly presented.
Excellent!! Would love to visit again someday”
Staff where all very helpfull and friendly would recommend to anyone couldn’t be happier with our stay
We keep coming back and Continue to do so
Lovely place, nice spa, staff were all really friendly - poor wifi in room”
Only gripe with the place - business customer and my room (34) had poor mobile and poor wifi to the point where I could use neither.
The building itself is lovely”
The rooms were lovely and very spacious. The hotel was really dead needed even a piano player or something to give an atmosphere. We paid nearly double price for just the room no breakfast compared to everyone else we spoke to. They had B&B, dinner & prosecco. The bar man charged us 3 different prices for the same drinks. I did raise this with a manager & he added breakfast into our room. We were there for a wedding, the room & food was lovely.
Very clean and friendly. Central for traveling, Chester only 10 mins away.”
Also central for Chester zoo and the Blue planet aquarium. Also handy for North Wales and Liverpool.
A beautiful building with excellent facilities.”
I was part of a wedding group and was impressed with the facilities and the helpfulness of the staff but considering the price of the room I was disappointed with the decor - windows needing painting, scuffs on the wall and the price of the drinks was exorbitant - £5 for a pint of coke, £6.80 for a bottle of cider. Since they had a monopoly and the wedding cost £13000 I think this could have been more reasonable.
