Stay with friend from USA”

Everything was extremely good in regards to our stay. The dinner on Thursday evening was superb! Only thing we could fault was that the bar staff were not very good at mixing cocktails. Otherwise the staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Highly recommend staying here.

Perfect location”

The room we stayed in was quite small, but the bed was really comfortable and the bathroom was well decorated and clean. Most importantly, this hotel is right in the middle of the Russell waterfront, allowing walks along the coast day and night.

Winter Break at The Duke of Marlborough”

Wonderful historic waterfront location in Russell village. Our large verandah overlooked the moored yachts and the Ferries coming and going to and from the wharf. Our huge room had a stunning interior design and two sets of French doors opening on to the verandah. The lovely dining room looks out to the water and was warmed by a traditional fire and a wall displaying the History of the early years in this part of New Zealand.

Fantastic location and room ”

We had Room 1 which had a big balcony overlooking the Bay so a superb view and a lovely room. Also impressed with the dinners that we had, especially the slick service on the second night as the hotel also had a very large conference/dinner to cope with. Friendly, helpful staff and a lot of repeat clientele which says it all.

Charm, smiles and great location. ”

Plenty of character, superior room (17) was large and very well equipped throughout. Cheerful staff who coped well with extremely busy lunch service. Parking at rear over road but can unload at front steps. Good value for money but no water st all in morning for shower, shave and loo only just got a shrug and late apology- no mention of any recompense. Overall we would recommend.

Almost Perfect”

This hotel had all the historic atmosphere and old time elegance we hoped for. We had two nights in room 8. For a remarkably low price we had a good sized room with view that included some water. The wifi worked and the staff were really helpful.

Tranquil beauty”

Gorgeous tranquil setting with a historical background. So restful but close to all amenities. Staff were so friendly and helpful and made us feel so at home. Views to die for - wine and lovely sunsets. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Highly recommended. Rooms smallish but very comfortable.

Elegant Accommodation”

Couldn't help but be impressed by the Duke of Marlborough. Complete comfort and elegance. The current owners have managed to retain the natural ambience of the hotel. We had a great stay enjoyed every minute of it.

Wonderful historic hotel”

Wonderful, invest the extra $$$$ for a waterfront view, you won't be sorry! The front desk will make reservations for tours. Sail on the F. Murray Abraham tall ship, go to Cape Reinga. We found a great dive bar about a block away called the Duke of Marlborough tavern. Cheap food and drinks and pokies!

Luxury in Russell”

This was without doubt one of the best long weekends my wife and I have enjoyed for many years, the weather played ball to compliment everything about the hotel. The accommodation, food, staff were all excellent. Thank you

Charming place to stay”

We had a wonderful time at this hotel. The view from our room upstairs was supurb. The staff were very friendly and the food was great. The hotel is right on the beach and adjacent to the ferry to Paihia. We took the ferry to Paihia. We walked over to the back beach - Long Beach. Lots to enjoy and relax about.

Delightful experience”

Very enjoyable,comfortable and very good dining experience. Wonderful location overlooking the water.Standard room was basic but adequate.No complaints apart from lack of electrical outlet in the bathroom so very hard to use my hair dryer. Balcony room was excellent with good sized bathroom and patio.

Great location, friendly service”

From the moment I checked in, I felt welcome. The young receptionist booked an excursion trip for me and recommended other activities. The staff were friendly, helpful and respectful, and remembered my name which was nice. The restaurant was great, the food was delicious and well presented. And a great view to watch the sunset.

i have travelled a great deal and stayed in numerous hotels around the world. the duke of marlborough hotel was up there with the best of them. the staff couldn't have been more friendly and went out of there way to make our stay one to remember. nothing was a problem.

Nice hotel overlooking the bay”

hotel had just changed ownership when we stayed there ... rooms were being upgraded (newer rooms are much nicer - ask for one of these). food in restaurant is excellent ... particularly all the fish dishes. the management team were very friendly and helped us booking our activities etc. russel itself is a bit quiet but a good base for bay of islands tours. lovely beach (long beach) behind the village is good for swimming.
