the glory days are long gone”
The food was not good at all. Resort very delapadated and run down. Staff just seems to be hanging around not doing much to improve the situation. With proper management and a good team it could possibly be a nice place again, but at the moment not worth it at all. You will be much better off going to Koh Mak. Where glad that we had booked only one night, but a daytrip would have been more than enough.

beautiful Island, ugly Resort”
the tiny island has beautiful spots to offer but the resort is definitely not worth the money. the accomodation is dirty and over its years, the restaurant offers eatable food and drinks for tough prices (Chang 120B) and the servings are very tiny. I don't regret my stay but just because of the beautiful spots around this little Island.

LITTLE DECEIVING”
The hotel's address reads "Bangbao Village, Koh Chang". I booked this but when I went to the bus station in BKK I was surprised to note that this is NOT Koh Chang but rather Koh Wai. There were not boats to take me there on time. I should have been more careful during my booking. I thus had to cancel my booking but alas was not able to do so. Thus take note, this is NOT on Koh Chang - it's on Koh Wai.

Beautiful place”
Victor who worked at the resort was amazing. All the staff were. Amazing location, beautiful reef to snorkel. If you want to get away from the world for a few days. This is the place. You have to share the afternoon with day trippers from Koh Chang but they soon go. Not much to do apart from snorkeling, kayaking, swimming or reading, but worth a few days of utter relaxation.

Great snorkelling location”
Bungalows are good, we tried 3 while we stayed. Recommend the one located at the highest point. Receptionist lady is a nice helpful Philippine with excellent English. Restaurant is reasonably priced, good quantity.

Paradise Lost?”
We stayed at Koh Wai Pakarang Resort for 2 days/3 nights. Almost everything about it is amazing - a very beautiful location, quiet, relaxed and peaceful (most of the time), great food, friendly manager and staff. However, every afternoon day trip boats arrived and anchored off-shore so their clients could have a swim. Tranquillity was then shattered for an hour by shouting and music. If I want to hear 'Every breath you take' by The Police blared at full volume I can do that at home. I had gone for a walk and could hear it three bays away. But the central issue is that with 4 boats at once at low tide there were 200 people trampling on and destroying the coral and if something is not done soon the reason for going there (beautiful coral and fish) will be lost and the resort will lose its clients and its revenue. We will be emailing the National Marine Park because we're not sure they realise what's going on when they issue permits to the companies who run day trips.

Snorkelling off the beach”
Beautiful location and good restaurant, but our bungalow was rather grim. Very helpful staff. Pakarang is the only bungalow operation with 24 hour electricity at the time of our visit. Handy if you want to run the fan all night. Big draw was excellent snorkelling with corals about 50m from the beach in front of the resort. Corals in front of the dilapidated old pier on the left. More extensive corals on the right near the second rocky outcrop on your right, after the beach ends. Location of the more extensive corals marked by some floating yellow lines.

Beautiful location; iffy accommodations ”
Two great things about Pakarang: location is stunning and the staff is super sweet and friendly. My biggest issues with the accommodations was the bed and the smell. The bed was very uncomfortable (and I don't consider myself picky). Also, sporadically, the bathroom in our room would smell terrible. There was no window in the bathroom so it would just permeate into the room. I had to sleep with essential oils covering my face in order to cover the smell. The restaurant was okay...Sporadic wifi which is to be expected from a middle of nowhere island (I was impressed they had any at all). The snorkeling on Koh Wai is incredible and the little beaches are beautiful (although lack much sand). I think 2 nights at Pakarang would be enough to enjoy the island and the pleasant staff.

Away from it all.”
A very beautiful, but basic resort. Huts are a bit tired and lack refrigerators. Good snorkelling, swimming and relaxing, but not much else. Bring books! The restaurant took a lot to be desired, kept getting our orders wrong after waiting maybe 15 mins to get served. I know that's not long but when they only had about 10 guests it seemed a lot. Also the meals came out about 10 mins apart.

Short. Getting boats to Ko Wai is problematic and the buildings and structures have seen better days.

Good Snorkelling off the beach”
Our air conditioned bungalow (A5) had seen better days and was located near the pier so we were disturbed by the long trail of day trippers visiting Koh Wai on a Thai national holiday....but there is a smaller quieter beach to the left which the day trippers didn't venture onto so if you are happy to spend those few hours in the middle of the day sitting in a hammock on the quiet beach you won't be as bothered by all the visitors. I moved to a much nicer newer air-con room (A7) for the final night and was more comfortable. The location of the fan bungalows was much better (lining the quiet beach) if you can do without air-con. The coral of course was mostly bleached out and dead, but there were still a few live colourful pieces to see, and a decent number of reef fish. The bay is quite shallow but there is still enough water at low tide to go for a little dip. The Thai food served at the restaurant was pretty tasty and reasonably priced for an island.
