I wanted to stay at this location, because it looked like a central location for the town of Newquay. It was a good stop to see everything in this beautiful beach area. I was not happy at 70 with the old bathtub. I was not happy someone complained about my TV being too loud, & some one came to the door at 2:30 AM, & scared the hell out of me, being alone in the room & asleep at the time, when they could have called on the phone. In no way would I answer the door anywhere! Overall, the staff was nice, & I spoke to them about this incident. Overall, the Victoria some positives & some negatives for me. Next time I travel, I must see if they have a shower or tub in the rooms. For a young person a tub is not a problem, but at 70, can be an accident waiting to happen, but I was provided with a mat, upon request. One thing very positive was the quality of the dinner I had in the empty dining room. The food was terrific & the service great! Thanks to all who tried to make my stay nice.
Great hotel Lovely food breakfast amazing
Fabulous hotel ”
Great friendly staff food was fantastic room was more than we expected
Good location after the first night had room cleaned but was not left any shower gel and cobwebs hinging from bathroom lights
Do not recommend the hotel”
On arrival we were given room 225, on entering the room we were met with filthy carpets and Victorian chipped furniture. The bath and wash basin were chipped of enamel. Complained to reception who told me that I could have a suite at a cost of an extra £280 for my stay. She told me that fits were allowed to stay in that room and it showed too. Told her that it was unacceptable and asked to speak to the manager who was superb and gave us the suite at no extra cost. The room was cleaner but again very dated and tired, comfy bed though. Breakfast was cheap quality food, the leisure facilities were clean but very dated, lockers didn't work and you had to take your clothes to the pool area. Needs a total overhaul, varnish falling off the ceiling etc. Watched the waitress changing the table covers and wondered why she put the clean cover on top of the dirty one, had a look at the table top myself and found the reason why they don't want to see the table top, an old dirty blue baize on top.
Sitting on the top of Newquay this hotel is positioned close to the shops and the beach - couldn't be better. The staff were all very friendly and the service was excellent. Rooms were clean and well appointed. This is a grand old lady who is not out of the game yet.
The hotel is right in the centre. Easy for buses and plenty of restaurants. Also easy to get to beaches. The hotel is very old and needs a lot of work done on it but the staff are delightful.
nice old Victorian hotel ”
very much impressed with the oldie worldly Victorian feeling of the whole hotel , ok its only a 3 star but you could say a little dated but that why its good and the location and staff are very nice and genuine , if you want something reasonably priced , clean and in the center of newquay, then give it a try ....
Good location and friendly helpful staff
Perfect for my needs”
I needed a room in the town centre and at a reasonable price. This Hotel covered those bases plus more. The breakfast was excellent and well priced and, the Hotel has a gym and indoor pool of which I used both. The staff were helpful and pleasant and any requests were dealt with instantly. Recommended.
I paid extra for a see view, the window was misted up on the inside, making it difficult to see through. I was charged £5 to park our car there. Breakfast was not included in the price of our room. Tired hotel that likes to charge extra.
Nights in Newquay ”
The hotel is centrally placed for local amenities with wonderful views of the Atlantic and the Cornish coastline. A Victorian hotel built on a grand scale with wide staircases and large lounges which would allow plenty of room to spread on a wet and wild day. Newquay is well placed for visiting places of interest all over the county.
Lovely comfortable bed,friendly staff
Old Hotel That Has Seen Better Days!!”
Very disappointing to stay here, staff not very friendly and all the public areas inside and out require upgrading! This is a very old hotel with lots of original features that could be made nice but seeing ripped & worn carpet everywhere patched up tape and the drab dirty exterior doesn't do it any favours! On a plus side the room was ok with a nice sea view but the breakfast was very disappointing! I suppose I was spoilt with spending a couple of nights previously in the fabulous Treggena Castle Hotel in St Ives but if I was to give any advice to travellers to this area of Newquay then I would say the Great Western looks far superior or even the Travel Lodge!
very good value for money beautiful inside furnishing will defo go there again.
Can't fault it, next year will third visit.
Great location, friendly hotel”
Clean, well-equipped room. The hotel has a fantastic staircase, well apointed dining room with great views of the sea. Parking was tricky but we managed a space and the hotel is well-located to walk to the restaurants and pubs/bars in the town. Couldn't fault it for a one night stay.
Need alot of improvement ”
The good thing about this hotem are fhe facilities like sauna, jacuzzi and pool. The room are old and the bathroom are dirty and it is soo expensive. Almost £100/night without breakfast. Well, Charge to experience.
Three Days Away”
The Victoria Hotel was overall value for money, cleanliness is reasonable. The internal building upkeep to the property could be a lot better though (window reveals in the breakfast room plaster had blown the wallpaper, cracked joints onwall edges were showing) The reception staff were friendly and efficient . The Hotels location is smack bang in the middle of the town which was ideal. We had a sea view room very basic two twin beds pushed together old wardrobes, bedside cabinet etc to fit the era of the hotel. Breakfast was included in the price. I do have a couple of concerns!! The walls between our room and the next room were very thin you could hear every word which was going on. Squeaky floorboards, slamming of doors. The Bed headboards a habit of turning on the wall lights everytime you turned over? Breakfast on Sat & Sun were self-service, yet Monday it was waiter service ( very slow) when you want to get away early? sort these problems out and i'll be back again
Lovely people, great hospitality, great food.......just the quality of the decor was old and worn.”
Just very upkept...worn carpets, so many broken worn furnishings, too many to mention. Quite cold rooms....central heating wasn't on for long... Did not have a very good stay. Our room wasnt very inviting, nothing like the picture we saw online, we was going to complain and book somewhere else but after a 5hr drive and it being late in the day, we just put up with it. The bathroom door would close properly and chair in out room the braid was half off, the light bulbs were different sizes above our bed and just looked odd...noticeably alot bigger. The weather was poor so we ended up staying in our room and in tbe hotel more so than we wished. The room should feel inviting....its poor maintance and upkeep just let it down. Couldn't wait to get home to be honest. Hospitality and food was amazing. Our experience wasn't the best and would not book there again until they have a refit. The carpark was packed...not enough spaces we had to pay to park our car in the hotel carpark WTF!
