Room was perfect was upgraded to a king bed ”
Location was perfect great restaurants nearby would definitely stay there again
Good Boutique hotel in a great location”
We like the NOMAD area, there are a lot of very good inexpensive restaurants, you are basically in the middle of the city and its easy enough to go uptown or downtown. It makes a great base. The hotel is well decorated. I would say the downside would be the overall cleanliness is just OK, the bed didn't seem to be made professionally, the coffee service in the mornings in the lobby is somewhat inconvenient. I would personally prefer to just have a small coffee maker in the room. Oh and they did overcharge me $20 extra after I checked out, it seems what some have complained about is true. But its too small to call them long distance (outside the US) to make a fuss. It's annoying and it seems like its done on purpose.
First Trip to NY--The James Nomad did not disappoint”
As a first time traveler to New York, the James Nomad hotel did not disappoint. From the moment I arrived, I was greeted by such friendly staff. Having a red eye flight, it took the stress out of my visit for them to openly offer to hold my bags, as well as enjoy hot coffee in the lobby while I unwound from a long flight with minimal sleep, while good vibes music played in the background. The lobby area is so quaint and I'm all for a hotel that smells amazing when you walk in. The wine hour in the evening in the lobby as well was a nice addition. Outside of the A/C struggling to cool down my room in the July heat/humidity, I absolutely loved my stay and I would stay here 10x again!!
Por encima de la media”
Front desk a bit too “cool for school” and consequently not very attentive to some of my fellow guests. Also when I enquired about check out at 1400, I was told it was 1200 for me because I had booked through Agoda. When I asked where this was made clear the desk clerk just shrugged!
Excellent Boutique Hotel, Excellent Service”
I would stay here again in a heartbeat! The staff was super courteous ad friendly in a relaxed way that put guests at ease. There is excellent coffee in the morning in the lobby, and wine and cheese hour in the late afternoon. The rooms are small, but tasteful and spotless. Loved it.
Perfect location ”
I loved my stay at the James. Perfect location to reach any neighborhood in NYC. The front desk and the cleaning staff were wonderful. The room was spacious and super clean. I really enjoyed my stay and fully recommend it.
Pros:nice sized room, many windows, hotel decor Cons:towels & bedding had definitely passed their expiration dates, shower had mold & mildew, a lot of the wooden furniture was worn out (not in a leather armchair 'gives character' kind of way), seemed like door men were either all there or there was no one there at all, the cleaning staff were always banging the doors during cleaning hours (making some peace and quiet impossible) and finally, it just seemed like no one was helpful, or kind really, in the whole place. For me, the cons here left that underwhelming feeling, one too strong for me to return.
Very bad experience: staff kept knocking the door”
Can’t tell how angry I was. I stayed for two night after a 16 hour flight. The staff kept knocking the door (like once an hour) saying they needed to check the minibar and even opened the door when I was sleeping at 3pm. I kept saying I was sleeping and they just didn’t care, even I put the DO NOT DISTURB sign. Let you guest rest please. You can always check you minibar when I check out........
Not Worth It”
Staff unhelpful and infriendly. Facilities fee of $40 day ridiculous. Guestroom maintenance dreadful. No follow up to problems that arose.
Nice Stay ”
Nice stay. Clean Room. Maid service very friendly and good. Central to NYC. Easy to walk to subways etc. Food, restaurants in the area seemed to close early.
The staff was friendly and quite helpfull. The room was new, spotless and comfortable.
Everything was absolutely average and below except location. We must have gotten the butlers room. That’s probably the amount of pull that Agoda has. So I wouldn’t recommend Agoda OR the James. Took my son for his 15th birthday.
Great staff/location /Services- Will stay there everytime I'm in NYC”
Thank you so much! I stayed there for four nights while seeing my "Potential Girlfriend" the time when we were apart- I was in and out of the hotel. The staff was always friendly and attentive. The bed was comfortable and bathroom was nice. This was a perfect trip!
Front desk staff seemingly not trained. ”
We had a number of occasions to deal with the front desk. It seemed as though each time they looked at the computer screen it was the first time they’d seen it. Had to get booking agent involved to insist upon remaining in the room which we were quoted and booked. Told a number of untruths, like the category which we booked did not exist, (deluxe queen with two queen beds) but only after the booking agent which handles firm business got involved was it amicably and quickly resolved. Nice folks at the desk but seemingly ill equipped. Also, extra hotel charge of $40 per day (including taxes and fees) was not in the prepaid reservation and was for a lame coffee bar for two hours and an unused wine and cheese hour midday. Great central location and maid service was excellent and friendly but it didn’t make up for the frustration experienced at the front desk.
Very disappointing staff”
Stayed here for 10 days and my colleague for 7 days. We both stay in hotels fro about 3 months of every year and we will not return to this hotel. Many problems, including hidden fees and charges, rude staff, too few on reception, and additional funds taken off my card a day after checking out and I'm an international lawyer, so they'll be hearing from me.. I couldn't wait to ccheck out, which isn't what you want for the cost. Chose somewhere else.
Lovely old building outside and a nice room. But the staff were very disappointing...not a smile between the lot of them. And they charge a "facility fee" for a glass of wine at 5pm (in plastic cups) and a piece of old cheese. What a rort! They had no umbrellas when it rained, and we were refused entry to the jazz club downstairs, even though we were guests (probably too old at 50). Also, I was woken 2 nights in a row by middle-aged drunk women running up and down the corridor, which the staff knew about. I asked them to speak to them and they said they couldn't be sure who they were. They were a large group...they knew. So whoever the GM is should be retired and someone new brought in to train the vey sub-standard staff at this hotel. I could have stayed another week, but chose to change hotels. I will never go back.
Solid hotel for midtown east access”
Nice boutique hotel, room was decent size as Manhattan goes. Quality bedding and nice appointments - 2 USB connections on each side of the bed. Smart, comfortable hotel.
