I even first time to review I stayed in the women's room for six. last day of the check, out I left my luggage and I was going to pick it up but reception man ask me where are you going?(first time said to me ,,,) he asked for the room number because I said that I checked out. I'm going to the bathroom and then I'm going to take my luggage out. He kept chasing me and told me that I couldn't get in if I checked out, he chased me to the bathroom. I felt so bad. It's not like I'm stealing things. I felt racial discrimination. I don't know if it was a manager or something, but he was a tall man wearing glasses. I was going out in 5 minutes, but he checked CCTV and followed me to where I was. I'm in a bad mood. I'm not one to steal. he asked me more than 10 times where I am going and what are you doing? Is this what you can say when you meet someone for the first time? I feel so bad. I was very offended. :( you ruin my day,,, I've never even written a review before. Did he smile at me until the end and find all the luggage,,, you made me feel bad until the end.

There must be some confusion, you had already checked-out of the hostel and this happened when you returned much later that day. Your friend told us he was collecting his washing and when you were found upstairs we only asked you why you were in the guest-room area again after you had already left. There were several bathrooms available to use downstairs and you were not near the Luggage room or the Laundry room?. Please understand our main priority is the safety and security of all our guests and their property. As you can see from the other reviews we will always try and help whenever we can, if we know what our guests need. You chose not to tell us what you were doing. The room was really nice with comfortable beds and the entire hostel was spotless. However, the differences between rooms were odd as my dorm room didn't even have shelves or tables to put stuff, only a safety deposit box with a sloped top (can't even use as table). There also weren't hooks to hang jackets, whereas other dorm rooms had hooks and even couches. The kitchens were well equipped and also provided free bread and various spices, though the lack of basic spices, sugar and salt, was strange. The wifi was fast but capped at 1GB daily, with the option to buy unlimited data at only $2. The toilets were clean and the showers had a small bench to put stuff on, which is really helpful. However, it's a little inconvenient that the toilet and shower lights switch off by themselves to save power. The heater also does that, but 2 blankets were provided so there wasn't a need for it anyway. There was also a sauna, air hockey table and spacious lounge and I'm overall happy with my stay.

Well appointed en-suite room”
This YHA was a good choice for us - an en-suite room with enough hanging space and a well arranged little bathroom with shelf space behind the toilet. Nice kitchen, eating area with bread provided for breakfast, which we took advantage of for 2 of our 3 days stay. Easy facilities to wash tramping clothes, though not free. Friendly helpful staff. Would recommend and stay again.

The building is quite large but inside is like a concrete prison that leads to the rooms where humans lay their bodies down for the night. Spent one night here due to having Christmas lunch with friends in Nelson. Big mistake! Was put in a 8 dorm room with 7 psycho self-centered brats. Came in and out of room all night. 3 males came in turning light on at 3:30a.m. and started talking as if no one was sleeping. At 4:30a.m. woman comes walking in right strob light flashing on her phone and it stayed on for the rest of the night. How anyone could expect to achieve any form of sleep in a situation like this is beyond comprehension! When I did get up at 9:00a.m. and exhausted from the "hell" night, was sitting in the eating area at 10:13a.m. when the aggressive kiwi manager starts yelling out my name wanting to know where I was. When I put my hand up, he said, "you are suppose to check out at 10a.m., and why haven't you done so? Have you put your bed sheets away?" Hellish and sleep in car

The season was bad, the room was stinky. I reserved a girls' room but it was mixed. It was good only to cook in the kitchen.

Will definitely not stay here anymore. Also, worst part was having a roommate who thinks she owns the whole room. She wont let us use our cellphones at night because she hates the light emanating from it.

I visited on my way to the West Coast for the purpose of Watashi. I was surprised that Nyu N stayed many times while attending the language school of the university.

No bedside power points or lamps in the room (really annoying!!). Very small lockers. Wifi was very patchy in some parts of the building. Have to carry luggage up stairs to get to rooms. Crap oven (knobs seem broken). Weird layout and style (it was like a warehouse with bright colours that were way too much for me). The vibe of the place was overall a bit weird as there seemed to be a lot of students there (felt more like a student dorm). Originally I was planning to book two nights but glad I only went with the one. Wouldn't stay again.

Strange middle age asian man guest had always too long time in kitchen”
Glasses bold short pants Empyema 50's Japanese man guest had from 4AM in kitchen to 9AM for his breakfast. And lunch time and Dinner time also too much long time in kitchen every days. He is Sip a nose always and sneeze many times, Then He was dozens of round trips to hes room and the kitchen. He is not group just solo. It was very strange and wired and crazy. Gus stove was almost broken, He had always monopoly these and spend too much gus and erectolic ,water also extra amount. Owner have to check it. He is cranky, doesn't have common sense. Owner and receptionists was kindly and friendly. Just Indian cleaner old homely woman was very rude and arogance, she had on perpose dirty vacume hitted to guests. No tolk , No greeting, her feeling "prison "staff. Bread is very Good. But some times not enough, and serve time is late. Guests was almost swear, smels like a "lotten Flog" and Mold. Vomite sick feeling. I had many times spread deodrant spray by my self. Cleaner have to do it many. Almost guests made Messy in room with thir dirty smelly stuff spread around bed. It seems mad crazy smelly Dirty Mental Homeless. Light out time of Lounge and TV room was forcibly 9;30PM by Indian guy staff. It was felt prison.

I needed to catch an early bus, so the location of this hostel was perfect. Wifi is fast, there is plenty of space for sitting everywhere. The only complaint I have is that the bunk beds are really squeaky, so they make noise all the time.
