Exceeded Expectations”
We travel to Hanoi once a month on average and typically stay at a five star hotel on the lake. This was the first time we stayed at the Essence d'Orient Hotel and Spa and it will be the hotel we stay at from now on. We had a better experience here than at the five star hotel and at more than half the price and a much better location. What a great experience at this wonderful boutique hotel and spa. The overall feeling we got was one of visiting the home of a good friend. Warm greetings, attentive service, very clean, warm decor, fantastic food and unique personal feeling. The location cannot be beat if you want to see the old quarter as it is right in the center of the action. We strolled down one block away each evening to have a drink, listen to music and watch the people from all over the world. The breakfast must be the best in Hanoi (better than the five start hotel). We had lunch and we recommend each visitor to eat at least one time at the hotel for lunch or dinner as the food was outstanding and a unique twist on traditional Vietnamese dishes. We also spent an afternoon at the Spa on the second floor. Again, it felt like we were visiting friends as the spa staff took great care of us, provided wonderful, professional massages and gave us the energy to hit the streets of the old quarter once again. We will use the Essence d'Orient Hotel and Spa as our new Hanoi home as if feels like visiting friends. Who wouldn't want a five star experience at half the price?

Repeat Customer, Another 5 Star Experience”
First, we have to disclose that we have stayed at the Essence d'Orient Hotel many times over the past six months. It is very difficult for a hotel to keep the service level at a high level over time but this hotel has managed to do that. In a previous review, we described our visit as a 5 star experience at a 3 star price. This is still the case after many stays. The staff is very attentive and friendly, rooms are clean and nicely appointed, the location cannot be beat and the food in the restaurant is the best selection and quality in the Old Quarter. Whether it's traditional Vietnamese or more Western style, the menu offers a great choice. Whether we are there for lunch or dinner, we always make reservations as they are so popular now they are turning people away. Make a reservation to enjoy the food whether you stay here or not. Last item to mention is the breakfast which is a nice variety of fruits, salads, breads, etc. to start your day in Hanoi. We love seeing our welcoming friends at the Essence d'Orient and look forward to our next stay.

Walking street area.”
Essence d’Orient Hotel & Spa is for the tourists who love night-life. The traffic in Hanoi is bad, but you can ask the hotel to call taxi for you anyway. The staffs are very friendly and well-trained. The room is wonderful with good small and good atmosphere. The elevator is very small when you have to carry all your belongings with you. The internet signal is very well, and there is a Laptop for LAN use in your room.

Great Location, Great Staff”
Very good location in the center of the old district, right on "beer street". Staff was fantastic, especially Tony. He always steered us in the right direction, gave us good advice, was polite and professional, and we felt like we could trust him right from the get-go. Though the hotel was right in the middle of the action in the old quarter, our room was surprisingly quiet! If you opened the window, you could hear a little noise from the street but if you kept it closed, almost nothing! I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to be in the heart of the action in the old quarter in Hanoi but cdan still retreat to a nice quiet room for a good night's rest.

Great hotel”
I spent 3 nights in Hanoi and stay was made better by stay at this hotel. The staff at this hotel is amazing. The level of service and friendliness from the staff was great. Made to feel welcome from the moment we reached the hotel. Staff knowledge and helpfulness further added to a great time in Hanoi. Great location in the Old Quarter. The rooms are great. Great for escaping the heat and crazy streets of the Old Quarter. Restaurant was also very good. Had some of the best meals in Vietnam there. Great service as well. After long days of touring the spa is great. Tried multiple different treatments and all where great. The experience was further enhanced by the staff. Great hotel

The best stay ever”
My third trip to Hanoi, I chose to stay at Essence d'Orient this round. I loved this hotel's location within the Old Quarter, its proximity to food places, shopping and everything nice about Hanoi. The hotel's cleanliness and great breakfast spread really sealed the deal for me - it's a hotel worth the stay/price. The staff are very friendly and helpful. I left my bag behind during my 3d/2n escapade to Sapa, and it was already in my room when I re-checked in. Peace of mind, they're professionals!

Good location and customer service”
The location is really good, to the left it's the beer corner and street food and to the right is shophouses for shopping. It is located within the Old Quarter of Hanoi, very near access to places of interest, shops and dining, exploration can be made on foot. It gets very happening at night. The customer service here is awesome, you do not feel like you are in a foreign land, they are trained to speak good english, makes it easy for you to communicate your needs and concerns if any. The spa is well priced and satisfying as well, and staying in the hotel gives you 15% to the spa packages. However, the hotel might need to improve on its ventilation,I was staying in the 6th floor and I could smell oil (cooking oil) from the restaurant? Poor venting of exhausted fumes maybe? And the walls are really thin, we could practically hear the others next door from our room and vice versa.

Favourite hotel in Hanoi yet!”
We had a fabulous 3 night stay at the Essence d'Orient Hotel. The hotel is located right in the busy heart of the old quarter. Stepping outside you can immediately experience Hanoi street-life, yet inside the hotel is peaceful, quiet and relaxing. The staff were excellent - always friendly and helpful, taking an interest in our trip, giving great recommendations for restaurants and so on, and going beyond expectations organising transport, booking and checking in, and even contacting our next hotel. The breakfast was delicious, with lots on the menu and very attentive staff. The room was a high standard, well-equipped and very clean.

A good stay with friendly staff!”
No complaints about the rooms, it was clean and quiet (except on our last night where there was a beer promotion with stage performances going on at the beer street corner) but it was all good! Staff were all friendly and eager to help. They'll even help you purchase tickets from nearby attractions if need be (at a cost of course, in USD). They sell SIM cards too but my advice would be to get it from the Viettel shop near the water puppet theatre. Location is in the heart of Old Quarter which makes visiting/walking to places of interest very convenient. Hotel is situated next to the bustling beer corner (good if you're a drinker). We had dinner in the hotel once and it was decent. At point of dining, it was rated #12 on TripAdvisor on restaurants in Hanoi.

Fantastic value for money ”
We didn't realise we were located right THE Ta Hien beer and food street because in spite of the area bustling with crowds and live music on the weekend, the double windows and glazing had more or less blocked all sound out. Aircon works. Staff are friendly, considerate and very helpful even with contacting other local tour and airport transfer agents not booked through the hotel. The coffee at Essence cafe is divine, not sold anywhere to consumers unfortunately! I'd love to have tried the Essence Spa but they close at 9pm though nearby within 7 mins' walking distance one can easily find top TripAdvisor ranked spas that open until 11pm. I do hope the water pressure can be a little stronger and perhaps slightly better ventilation in the bathroom to rid steam; there were itsy flies about but bear in mind it's the tropics and summer. Overall I'd stay here again and won't bother researching for a better deal anymore. Truly wonderful!

Perfect little hotel”
We stayed at both the essence spa hotel and its neighbour essence D'orient. Very similar but different room designs and entrances although both are linked via the restaurant. I would recommend either. The hotel doesn't look much from the outside but inside was lovely. Staff were extremely helpful, gave us maps, advice, arranged taxis and even checked us in for our onward flight. Excellent location in the heart of the old quarter.

Great Location, Great Service”
It was a very pleasant stay. Staffs were helpful and friendly and offered to go extra miles to help us with luggage delivery and money exchange. Knowing that it was our first trip to Hanoi and we were there to celebrate our anniversary, the manager kindly upgraded us to a balcony room with fantastic view overlooking the old quarter. Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone travelling to Hanoi for business or leisure.

Amazing Hotel Inside the Old Quarters”
It's my first trip to Hanoi so I haven't really stayed in a lot of Hanoi hotels to be able to compare. But from what I get from the hotel, I must say I'm extremely satisfied with my stay. Most of the hotel staffs spoke good English. And its location is ideal, just beneath it is the bustling old quarters with lots of restaurants and bars nearby. Lastly, the service of the hotel staffs are excellence. When I've checked out, the front office staff even walk me to my taxi and bade farewell to me. This is excellent. If I've to find something not so good about the hotel to mentioned, it will be the shower. The waters are not coming out powerful enough...

Great spot in the hustle and bustle of the Old Quarter”
Rooms are clean and bed is comfortable for a great nights sleep. I recommend this hotel if you are travelling to the Old Quarter in Hanoi, the location cannot be beaten to experience the busy-ness of the Old Quarter. I have stayed at a few Hotels in this district and this one is the best value with excellent helpful staff. Recommended

Sensational Hanoi skyline view”
On sunset the view from the highest rooms is nothing short of sensational. Highly recommend stumping up for the balcony rooms to enjoy the ambience of watching the night lights and sounds come up in Hanoi. There are of course cheaper hotels that will give you all the benefits of a similar location (I moved to one when a needed an extra day and Essence d'Orient was fully booked.), but Essence d'Orient hotel has the Hanoi views. Didn't try the breakfast, was out for Pho every day!

Exceptional”
My husband and I stayed at the Essence d'Orient Hotel with two friends (two rooms) and had a great stay. The hotel is located directly in the middle of the Old Quarter and is walking distance to most everything. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the staff was extremely helpful. One person in our group left money at a previous hotel in a different city and the staff contacted the other hotel to ensure the money arrived safely. They went above and beyond to ensure everything was taken care of. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Best Value, Attentive Staff, Excellent Rooms”
This is my pick of the "up market" places to stay in Hanoi on the "cheap". I've stayed at Boss Legend Hotel as well around the corner and I'd stay here at Essence because it is about half the price for comparable comfort/room size etc. Internet was fast too. The staff here seem like they have been trained by American's - like way up there on the helpful side and explaining everything well. It was really unexpected and once I got over the initial thoroughness I relaxed and went with the flow. This place had the best bed I've slept on in Hanoi so far, so great, like sleeping on a cloud. Not a soft, spongy cloud, a firm fluffy light cloud, lol The bed was awesome, I like a firm mattress and this was great, even though it had a softness about it :D The only downside to this particular room (601) was the shower pressure, which was strange as the sink tap and toilet hose had great pressure. I suspect that the filters in the shower hose have not been cleaned out in a while. I think this because I had this issue at home, once I cleaned these in-line filters pressure was good again. I didn't bring it up with the staff while there as I could shower, it just would have been ideal if the pressure in the shower matched that of the sink/toilet hose.
