Hanok houses are probably not the best fit for Americans”

I stayed in a Hanok house in Jeonju and it was great - thick bedding, decent pillows, sufficient covers, and en suite bathroom. The Hyosunjae had none of these. It was one of the longest nights of my life. I don't want to be unfair in my evaluation though. I know that a Korean who is used to these kinds of accommodations would probably find it satisfactory. As an American, I need just a few adjustments to survive Hanok living. If this had been my first experience, it certainly would be my last.

Friendly and helpful staff who attend the guest’s needs (airport transfer etc). Good place to experience staying in Ondol/Korean Traditional House, as long as you can bear walking out to the detached bathroom in cold weather. Very comfortable despite of the small room size.

Excellent location near Subway and Airport Bus pickup point”

Pros - location. Once you get out of Subway Anguk Exit 1, turn left and walk some 100 meters. There will be a street on your left. It's also near the Airport Bus pickup point. Cons - no ensuite toilet. Tip: theres a McDonalds at Exit 1 of anguk station. Stay there and approach a Korean who can call the local number of the Hanuk lady who can then pick you up soy ou wont get lost.

Unique & unforgettable stay in a traditional ambience”

This review is for Sophia Hanok Guesthouse. We booked to stay at hyosunjae hanok guesthouse but were invited to stay at another property which is more comfortable and slightly further; less than 10 minutes walk from Anguk station (exit 2). The place is clean, looks recently enhanced and it caters to our basic needs. Toiletries are provided except toothpaste & toothbrush. Breakfast is provided outdoor (within the surrounding of the quarters) & we had bibimbap to start our day. It's a hanok stay, so don't expect firm beds. It's the experience that counts and we are happy to stay at Sophia hanok guesthouse.

The room is very small if you bring 2 luggages. The location is difficult to find at first. But after i know the place, it is very easy to find and near with the main street. And the place is near with insadong shopping street just 5 minutes walk.

Nice Hanok experience”

The Hanok is nearby exit no. 5 of Anguk Metro station with 1 min walking distance only. There is also a Airport bus 6011 station outside the exit no. 5 of Anguk Metro station. The location is good. It was also at the mid of two main famous Palaces. The owner was very nice and the house was clean.The breakfast was 韓式伴飯 with lots of side dishes and our family love that.

Great Hanok Experience.”

The location is very near to the Anguk MRT station although it's not easy to locate for the first time. The guesthouse is cute and the floor has heater which is helpful during winter season. The toilet is shared and outside of the room which make it very hard to go to because of the cold. The breakfast is tasty although time is limited and it is scheduled by room. The host is OK and speaks very basic English. Over all, the experience is great especially for short stays.

We love our stay in this hanok. The traditional feel of the building is very special. Nice breakfast. Even though it was a bit tricky to find its location at the first time, it's convenient to everything after I knew the location. Nice stay overall. Worth to try out for a night or two!

Lovely place ”

We had a nice stay at this guesthouse. It was close to Anguk station down a small alley that I wasn't sure whether we should go down or not.....go down the alley, it's right there! :) Staff were friendly and the bibimbap for breakfast was good, albeit a little small. I would definitely stay here again. The price was right. I didn't use the shower because I live in Seoul and only stayed one night, but it didn't look too great, but it was clean.

Was a little hard to find the accommodation and room was a little small but the breakfast was great and the ahjuma there is really friendly :) Once you get the bearings of the accomd, it is actually quite near to the main street.

Good experience with hanok stay.”

The owner upgraded our room to a bigger one with tiny private bathroom. The help lady was very friendly and helpful even though she does not speak English at all. We had simpler Korean style breakfast than I originally expected, but still yummy.

Traditional way to enjoy the stay”

Location: pretty easy to find. the owner gave a detailed instruction. 5 mins walk from Anguk station. After the instructed exit point from the station, Just make sure you ask around where the hana bank direction is. Located near Hanok Bukchon village, the guesthouse was outside the bukchon village area. Some small restaurants and coffee shops around the hotel. Bedroom: hanok style with ondol heating during winter. bed was so comfortable. room was spotlessly clean. An ahjumma came by every morning to clean the room. inside the room was a plasma TV but we didnt use it haha. Bathroom: soap block was provided, if you are not comfortable in using soap block, you better bring your own. shampoo and towel also provided. shower and toilet were joined. the bathroom was clean with hot water. Staff: no staff at the ready in the hotel. Only an ahjumma came by every morning to cook guests breakfast and clean the room. they have a very strict check-in and check out time. like all hotels in seoul i guess. Breakfast: bibimbap and soup. quite delicious since we were hungry. they called us exactly at 8 am to eat breakfast. and since the kitchen area was full with other guests, we waited for it to clear. The ajumma kept calling us to eat like every 10 mins.

unique experience”

location is good, after you manage to find it. it's a less than 5 mins walk (im a slow walker) at Anguk Station Exit 2. you will see GS25 and starbucks across the street, the guesthouse is at that side of the area. Cross the street and right after starbucks, turn in to the road, see the puffer fish restaurant, there is a tiny small alley, walk in (20 steps or so) and the guesthouse is at your left (i think). the owners can only speak simple english, but they are friendly and willing to try to explain anything you ask in their best effort.

Feeling at home”

Really enjoy the traditional Korean breakfast although it would be arranged around 8 am, a bit early for someone who want to sleep late. People are kind enough to offer help. The fees one night is a bit too high for backpackers so we only book one night for experience. If you can find the direction, it would be only 5 mins away from the station.

Hanok with unfriendly host”

Although located near an attraction, it was quite difficult to find. We were disappointed with the attitude of the host. He was very unfriendly throughout our stay. On the day when we were supposed to check out.he was rushing us to leave.The walls of our room was thin and we could hear other guests in the other room packing in the middle of the night. The breakfast was unlike what we saw in the photos.

1) Difficult to find the place at first, it located behind some building. 2) Room is extremely small, but nice experience 3) Boss is friendly, but English very limited. 4) Great to stay if want to visit Bukchon Hanok and Insadong.

The receptionist is friendly and helpful ”

The hotel is far from subway station, not really convenience if we have to carry a huge luggage from station to the hotel due to there's a slope on the way hotel. However the front desk guys are helpful and recommend us having superb delicious ddeukbokki in myeong dong, really best

A fun experience”

It was difficult finding the guesthouse as it was hidden in a narrow alley without enough signage. It took us quite a while to find it as we kept walking by the alley. However, there are lots of restaurants close by and very close to the station. When we arrived, we were treated warmly. They knew minimal English but it was enough to get the points across. The traditional breakfast was delicious and made with care every morning. It had a nice korean home feel. The remote controlled air conditioner worked well. The entire place was clean and tidy. I highly recommend this place if you're looking to try a traditional hanok experience.

Good location, Traditional House”

We stayed for one night here as we wanted to experienced Hanok style house. The owner is friendly. As we came early, he gave us the choice to choose our room. the room is quite small though but good enough for 2 persons. Room is very clean and come with heated floor, so it's quite warm and comfy. The place can easily be access using shuttle bus from airport, stop at Anguk station. Walk across the street to other side and turn to the small street between Hana Bank and Kodak, jusk walk straight. You'll find it on ur left side at the end of the street. From this place, can walk to Insadong and Changdeokgung Palace as well. Would recommend this place for short stay unless you don't mind waiting in line to use bathroom in the morning as it is shared bathroom. There are 2 bathrooms available so it's not too bad.

Excellent service , relaxing , clean place ”

First thing we need to thanks who provided us a very very good service during our stay at Hyosunjae Hanok Guesthouse. It was a great , relaxing and wonderful place to stay . Very close to tourist attractions , train station ( Anguk ) , korean traditional market , shopping centre. I will choose this place again if I go holiday at seoul next time . You will not regret if you choose this guesthouse. Thanks
