All the glowing reviews are true!”
My friends and I very much enjoyed our visit to Jetwing Vil Uyana. The standard of the rooms and common areas met our expectations of a 5 star hotel, however it was the quality of the food and beverage that most impressed us. Since the hotel is located about a kilometre from the nearest main road, dining options are limited. However, it provided high quality fare at reasonable prices, including an outstanding breakfast with a wide range of options.
Excellent hotel with fantastic service”
Vil Uyana is one of the best places we have ever stayed in. The setting is perfect in very natural and quiet surroundings. The bungalows are fairly scattered from each other, which gives you a lot of privacy. Inside the bungalows, the decor is lovely. Rooms are extremely large and comfortable with everything you need and more. The service all around the hotel was fantastic, as was the food in the lovely restaurant. The only complaint is that because of this, we ended up eating so much and gaining weight! All the main attractions in the area are within suitable distance from the hotel - Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura, Dambulla and Kandy. This is a great place to make as your base for day trips out to the surrounding areas, but make sure you also save some time to relax by the pool and read in the library area, which has a lovely view over the water from comfy sofas.
A hidden gem in Sigiriya”
Luxurious hotel with private shack including a private swimming pool. Very nice environment, friendly staff, surrounded by the nature. We checked in with a selection of welcome drinks. We had lunch which caused my only complain about this hotel- slow service (we waited more than 40 mins for the food) and flies all over the place (very busy in keeping our food clean). We ordered dinner in room service and the food was great. We were busy spending the night in the dwelling as there are so much to do in terms of brewing tea, coffee, tv, relaxing, etc.
We stopped in Sigiriya for 2 nights to see the rock and an elephant safari. We got more than we asked for from this beautiful resort. Just note that the Sigiriya airport is closed for a few more weeks and we ended up flying to the Air Force base which was a 45min ride. We had a nice taxi driver Danusha who was very helpful the entire time. The hotel staff was extremely friendly, the grounds were very cool. Lots of wildlife and the feel of the grounds was amazing. The food was really good. The breakfast was included and they had great options. They even served us lunch near the pool just by asking for it. We had a forest villa. It had the most comfortable bed I could ask for. Slept like a baby. The room was spotless and whenever we asked for something it came right away. We did the Slendor Loris trek at night and our guide found 4 of them. Very cool to be hunting the grounds in search of them. I travel a lot and was a bit worried about how this stop on our honeymoon agenda was going to go, but we both absolutely loved it. There are no atms there, so get money before.
We had an amazing stay in this beautiful hotel. Set in a stunning location and just 2 hours drive from Kandy. Went on an elephant safari and climbed Lions Rock in Sigiriya which was mind blowing - advanced ancient civilisation we knew nothing about. We also got engaged at the top, which made it even better. The staff were all lovely, but special thanks go to Chaminda Jayasekara who went out of his way, using his photography skills to take photos of us as we climbed the rock and got engaged (at no extra cost). The hotel also made us an engagement cake which was a really lovely touch. All in all, a wonderful stay, highly recommended. We can't wait to go back! Thanks Jetwing Vil Uyana, Tim & Maha
Efficient Crisis Management”
We have been most impressed with their Front desk manager Dilip's ability to make quick and sound decision and Sanath for excellent execution. Dilip instructed Sanath to switch our room immediately, upgraded us and gave us half a day for free. We ended up spending more money on the property by extending our stay, having massages and many fabulous meals.
Lived up to high expectations”
Excellent place - stayed in the garden villa rooms (cheapest) and it was still secluded and lovely with the best/biggest bathroom we have ever had and 2 outside private areas to relax in. The more expensive rooms have private pools but the pool by the main hotel area/lake was great and not very busy when we stayed. Food/drink is not cheap by Sri Lankan standards but is very good and not dissimilar in price when compared to other hotels of this standard in the country. Overall, Vil Uyana justifies the hype!
The individual chalets were beautiful and very spacious. However we were not comfortable staying there as we were worried about the stairs, particularly at night as the lights are not very bright. A number of times, I trip on the last step leading to the door as the grain of the wood made it difficult to distinguish the last step from the floor. Also at night , I was worried that my husband was going to fall down the step leading to the bathroom in the dark. Suggest that Jetwing have a number of chalets which have no stairs, particularly for their older guests.
Must stay here if money is not a big concern”
First reached the hotel, you will feel that you are surrounded by the nature. The lobby was VERY nicely designed, and the hotel staff was very helpful in explaining all the activities at the hotel. It was a huge resort which requires golf car pick up every time we get out from the room. The food was excellent and came with many choices. I strongly recommend you to leave enough time (1 whole day) to explore at the resort.
Excellent, easily one of the Best Hotels ”
Easily one of the Best Hotels we have ever stayed at , our stay was excellent . The kind of place where we would have loved to stay longer. Excellent food and service . Eco-friendly, scenic , pleasant location.
An amazing experience!”
My partner and I stayed at the Jetwing Vil Uyana for three nights in Mid July. The hotel has an amazing wow factor from the moment you arrive with breathtaking views. The reception, library, lounge and restaurant areas were all open-sided looking directly out over the grounds/lake with a fabulous layout. Our room was the basic standard room semi-detached villa which was much more affordable than the other villas. The bedroom was large and included everything you could want. The bathroom was amazing with the bath & shower located in an open air section of the room....while this did lead to a visit from the odd bat, gecko, frog and insects, these only added to the whole experience. There was also a large veranda to the front. It was extremely quiet except for the sounds of nature. Lovely gravel paths swooped around the entire complex between each villa and walking to the pool/restaurant was always fun as you were sure to pass a pea cock or other birds on the way. Golf cart transport was at your beck & call to whisk you around if you needed it. The pool was very much in keeping with the whole theme of the hotel and looked out over the lake and through the downstairs sections of the hotel. The restaurant (upstairs) again was open sided and this lead to a fabulous breeze flowing through the large room and a real feel of being in touch with nature as you dined. The food was very good; breakfasts were a la carte and not the usual buffet and were gorgeous. We opted for the dinner set menu each night which was extremely good value for such gourmet food. The wines however were very expensive, with the cheapest bottle of wine costing more than dinner for two.....this needs to be addressed. The pool, bar, restaurant and housekeeping staff could not have been nicer and worked so hard to do everything they possibly could for you. I would however mention that the reception staff were not very pleasant and the whole place lacked serious management with a walking femal
Hidden gem for a rural luxury eco-lodge experience”
The Jetwing Vil Uyana was definitely the highlight of our time in Sri Lanka. We were referred here from an article claiming it was one of the best eco-lodges in the world and we don't doubt that claim. We stayed in a standard room, which was a self-contained unit, while they also had beautiful villas, some built on stilts, around the grounds. Our room was spacious, with a semi-outdoor shower area and patio area with couches. The staff were all great - inviting and attentive, but low-pressure. The infinity pool right next to the river, with the wildlife all around made you feel like you were in nature without any inconveniences. The restaurant's decor was tasteful and warm, while the food (we had the chef's set menu) was fantastic! They obviously have a great chef working there, even in the off-season when we were there. It is definitely a place that we will stay at for future visits to Sri Lanka.
A two day getaway with friends.”
Loved my stay at Vil Uyana! A luxury boutique hotel with lots of wildlife at the doorstep. Only one negative when checking out, desk clerks couldn't get card machines to work, had to try 3 different bank cards / credit cards, although all 3 worked fine when used in Colombo the next day.
I could go on for pages about this place, but I will try to keep it short. The place is faultless. Evey little detail is attended to with perfection. The food is sublime, the rooms are sublime, the staff are the best we have dealt with. It is perfect.
Beautiful rooms, amazing setting, friendly staff”
This is an absolutely amazing hotel complex. Set on marsh land the villas are large, spacious and beautifully designed. As soon as you step in you feel relaxed and on holiday. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and it is hard to fault anything about Vil Uyana. Maybe a better set of DVDs?!
A nice hotel with wonderful maintained surroundings where you felt like you were not living in earth. Lots of birds. You definitely enjoy staying here if you need a retreat place. Nice staff and food, though lack of Sri Lanka food, mainly western food.
Lovely hotel, beautiful surroundings with some rooms nestled in paddy fields. Lots of wildlife roaming around! Would recommend upgrading to one of the better rooms, standard rooms located rather far away from the reception. The food was absolutely fantastic and very good value for money (although expensive by Sri Lankan standards). Was not too keen on the outdoor bathrooms.
Second time to this rural retreat”
As this was our second visit to this hotel, we had done all the sight seeing things 4 years ago (Lion rock, Dumballa and safaries)so just wanted a relaxing holiday, We got what we wanted and came back very relaxed, as we both wanted a break, but didn't want to sit on a beach and wallow in the pool, we need a bit more stimulance so chose this hotel again on our last experiance of all the nature around (Monkeys, snakes, lizards, moniters and many more even eagles swooping into the lake catching fish whilst you sit in the libery drinking your lion beer) just to mention a few. We enjoyed every minute,
Great cottages with the best service ever.”
This was an amazing experiance for our honey moon. The nature the whole concept, the service it was all the best of all 5 star hotels I have ever been to. There are 106 staff at all time divided into 26 cottages, even the general manager took off time to greet us. This place is a well thought concept that needs superb recognition.
Beautiful hotel in a serene setting”
Apart from the weather, our stay at Jetwing Vil Uyana was just about perfect with friendly staff, great breakfasts and room. Wished we could stay longer than 2 nights to spend time at the hotel, but too much to do and see in the Cultural Triangle, where the hotel is set.
