“Stunning property ”
I’m only dinging this to four stars for a few small things given that this is the nicest property on La Digue and should be paying more attention to the services offered by its competition! The entire resort is simply stunning and though higher priced than every other hotel on La Digue, is much, much less expensive than comparable resorts in other tropical destinations, and clearly offers much more in beauty and some other amenities than its on-island competitors. I stayed in a garden view cottage which I found palatial until I saw the genuinely huge cottages up the hill toward the spa! Everything was immaculate and lovely. Half board is the way to go with daily breakfast and dinner buffets included, all of which have a high variety and excellent quality with stunning ocean views. This lets you try out other island restaurants for lunch. (In general avoid pizza on La Digue, unless you’re really looking for fondue! Even at the most Italian place on the island, Le Repaire, the pizza was just a thin crust covered in a swimming pool of cheese.) The spa was lovely; highly recommend Mia and her magic fingers that somehow didn’t cause any pain despite my severe sunburn during the Vitamin C skin treatment. Staff are all very kind and friendly. Only two small dings: Many, many other less expensive properties offer their golf carts as free taxi services around the west side of the island, but La Domaine does not. It’s not something I’d normally expect, but given that their less expensive competitors are offering it, it would be great to have, say scheduled round trip runs from La Domaine with stops at the ferry port, Le Repaire, the main grocery store, L’Union Estate and Anse Source d’Argent at 9, 12, 3 and 6. Given that the golf carts are just sitting idle most of the day, it seems very doable! Second ding is due to the fact that the website lists spa services which aren’t available, such as an aloe vera treatment for sunburns, which was much needed.
