Excellent hotel with good services”
The view at the lobby is fantastic. Very helpful and good manner staff, especially Craig and Amy. Nearly most of the staff can speak fluent English. Free ride to the monkey park and Yudanaka train station are very convenient to the guest. Foods were good too. Highly recommended.
THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HIDDEN GEM ”
Truly the best ryokan!! Tatami room was very clean and homey. Onsen was soothing and relaxing. Breakfast was sumptuous and fulfilling. Easily a 10/10.
Friendly onsen town hotel”
Stayed here after our visit to the snow monkey park. Quiet hotel with 2 onsen pools which switches. Had a good experience when one of the monkeys decided to sit nearby the onsen in the morning. Food was not too bad. Tatami and room was comfortable as well. Managed to schedule a massage in the room which was done perfectly.
A good view Ryokan with Japanese Dining Experience”
Actually I travel with my 2 elderly parents, we stay at this good modern ryokan, room is clean and spacious, has western bed , the onsen facility is good enough, they have outdoor onsen also but we cannot enjoy the view as they have partition. View from hotel lounge is very soothing, The most experience is you can enjoy a japanese style breakfast and dinner (with additional cost), we love it soooo much, very delicious and unique, the best food I think as I try 3 ryokan for this journey, all the staff is very attentive, my fave is Christine, she can speak english fluently and very helpful to elderly. A recommended place to stay when you visit Nagano and the place is only 11 minutes from the snow monkey forest area.
Very personal”
Have a chance to meet the lady owner, very friendly. And really glad to meet Irish, one of the staff that help us as the other staff doesn’t really speak english. Love the breakfast and especially the dinner. Vintage and homey!
Definitely worth a stay here”
Ryokan service was excellent, with the lady owner of the ryokan coming into the dining area to introduce herself and giving us a brief history lesson of the area. Outdoor private onsen was a plus when it was snowing outside. Amazing experience.
Good Location”
Great location not too far from station and shops. We walked from Hotel to Monkey Park. Staff were great. English speaking and very welcoming. Not cheap but worth itRecommend.
great base for snow monkey and skiing”
nice onsen hotel, with western bed. onsen was smaller than some of the other places, and they alternate them everyday between the sexes. dinner spread was fantastic, would recommend you to take their half board package! staff there were excellent esp those serving at the dining hall!
Fantastic Stay”
We stayed 2 nights at this ryokan towards the end of December 2017. The trip to the ryokan from Ueno Station in Tokyo took around three hours total, involving both a shinkansen train to Nagano Station followed by a 2nd local train up to Yamanouchi. This was the only taxing part of the trip. Once we got there, the staff was exceptionally warm and helpful, the kaisaki breakfast and dinner were memorable (some travelers chose the western style breakfast, which I don't understand at all-- why travel thousands of miles to the mountains of Japan to order an omelette?) , the indoor hot springs were always clean and well maintained, and the day trip to see the snow monkeys was fantastic (but be warned, it involves a bit of a hike, and the trail is slippery during winter). The ryokan does everything it can to immerse the foreign traveler to a luxurious local hot spring culture, and I didn't have a single complaint.
Amazing place!”
This was the most peaceful, beautiful place. Staff were really friendly and provided free transfer to snow monkeys and to train station. Also private rooftop spa (supplement 1800yen) for those not wanting to get naked with strangers. Japanese room and dinner/breakfast was a very authentic experience. 100% recommend.
Wonderful stay!”
We had such a nice stay at Ryokan Biyunoyado! The hosts, meals, hospitality, and Ryokan were all wonderful! We enjoyed seeing the Snow Monkeys too! Thank you for such a memorable and unforgettable time.
Amazing Japanese experience ”
Without this hotel I think I would be a bit disappointed about the snow monkeys park experience. This hotel makes the journey worthwhile. Hotel staff were all very polite and helpful. Facilities are amazing. The onsen was the best and the Japanese full on meal for breakfast and dinner. It is quite expensive but you get to pick up from train station, drop off and pick up from monkey park and drop off again to the train station all inclusive in the service. For a treat and once in a life time experience it's good value.
Lovely stay”
Great onsite onsen- and private onsen tubs on the roof for 1800 yen/40 min if you want a little privacy! The owner and staff were lovely, as was our room- with a great mountain view. The food was very good too- lots of small courses, with the nicest serving staff who were always smiling.
Good service”
We stayed here for 2 nights as it has always been my dream to see the snow monkeys in the wild. On the whole, we were happy with our choice of hotel, although we did have a few issues, which were resolved with the help of Jang on reception. She is a credit to the hotel and we can't speak highly enough of her. She really made us feel welcome and special. Thank you Jang!
Võrratu”
Convenient for the snow monkey park (shuttle service), extremely friendly staff, nice onsen, good food, suitable for Westeners (English speaking staff and informations available), spacious taditional rooms
SNOW MONKEYS”
We primarily went to stay at Ryokan Biyunoyado to see the snow monkeys & to enjoy the onsen. Meals were traditional Japanese breakfasts & dinners. The onsen was great & we almost didn't get to hike up see the snow monkeys due to heavy snowfall on the trail. We were pleasantly surprised on the morning we were to leave & found out that we were able to hike up to see the snow monkeys & still be able to catch our train as scheduled! The service from Ryokan Biyunoyado was excellent & we would not hesitate to stay there again.
Great Keiseki Dinner”
We stayed in a Japenese style room to try it out and we had a great time. The Ryokan is about a 10 minute walk from the station. Although I suggest if you have luggage with you, it is an uphill walk so maybe consider a taxi. We arrived around 1pm and were told that the hotel shuttle leaving for the snow monkey mountain would be departing at 1:30pm if we wanted to join. Which we did and it ended up working out perfectly. Shuttle drops you off and picks you up again at 4pm, in time for check-in. Bathroom is adequate. The hotel is a bit older so the room I would say was not as modern. We wanted to stay here for the night because of the dinner/breakfast service. Which was amazing. Highly recommend. We rented the private onsen with real flowing hot spring water on the rooftop for a late night soak. It's about $16 for 40 minutes. Amazing after dinner. You don't get to see much because it is at night, but just being able to soak in an onsen under the dark sky up on the roof was amazing. The hotel shuttle will even drop you off at the station the next day when you leave.
Beautiful town”
Is a beautiful place to stay. A little hilly but peaceful & good place to relax. The private onsen at rooftop for 40mins cost 1800 yen. Is value for money. We use it at night & is very cold up there. Very fun & enjoyable to soak in a hot spring with air close to zero degree.
Great Ryokan with Friendly Staff”
Enjoyed our stay there. Staff spoke good English, meals were great, the onsen was well-maintained and clean. Convenient to get to from the train station but a bit of a distance by bus to the ski areas at Shiga Kogen (still better than staying up in the ski areas though). The hotel provides shuttle services to the station and snow monkey park so that was fantastic.
A great Ryokan for relaxing and seeing the monkeys”
Our stay, however brief, was great. The free shuttle picks you up at the train station (and brings you back). The staff is wonderful and some speak a little English which made our arrangements easier. The town is quiet, but we found a small sushi place for lunch before heading up to the monkey park. They have a free shuttle to take you to and from the park as well. The food was very good, not to mention the presentation, and the wait staff was attentive. We felt well attended to our entire stay. The onsen is clean and comfortable, with indoor and outdoor options. If you're looking for a way to switch things up after staying at hotel after hotel, this is a fantastic way to experience and learn about traditional Japanese culture.
