Great with young children ”
The Miyako is wonderful with young children. The rooms are very large, very clean, and have enough space to even play. The kids room is nice, too. The garden and paths are a nice, safe, lovely, and easy excursion. The staff is exceptional in English and Japanese. The only downside is the location, which is far from restaurants (note: the Miyako has excellent, if expensive, choices) and shopping--especially during the hot, summer months. Still, the Miyako is an excellent option.
Great base in Kyoto”
We had a super stay at the Westin in Kyoto. The shuttle bus from the station removed the hassle of getting to the hotel and the staff were organised, welcoming, efficient and helpful when we checked in. The concierge desk found us excellent restaurants to eat at on short notice and we are due a big thank you to Noriko and Chieko on that desk for great recommendations. Rooms were spacious and comfortable and many sights walkable though taxis were always readily on hand. We'd happily stay again.
A great hotel with hospitality in the cultural are”
We stayed here for total of 4 nights during Christmas time. And I must say the hotel is doing a great job despite its aged building. Higashiyama district in Kyoto where this lovely hotel sits is great to walk around if you love the traditional area such as Gion. 2 mins walk to the closest metro station so you can reach shopping district very easily as well. The hotel staff are all very well trained, polite and friendly. Seems like most of them speak English. For breakfast I would strongly recommend Japanese Breakfast over International buffet. We will come back here the next time we visit Kyoto.
Superb Hotel with heritage and 5-star service”
Westin Miyako is one of the oldest hotels in Kyoto and has very comprehensive facilities. The gardens in the hotel and bird watching trail are worth exploring. The staff are professional, polite and efficient in getting things done with as little fuss as possible. Despite it being slightly out of the way from Gion (30 min walk?) and the Kyoto central area, this problem is overcome by its half-hourly shuttle service,
Very nice traditional Japanese style room”
It's super easy to get to the hotel, either take hotel shuttle from Kyoto station , where we were straightly from Kansai airport after arrived. The other is take subway , only 2mins walk from the station then u will reach there. Japanese style room is highly recommended, if u have garden view, then u're the most lucky one, they will change the flower display everyday in your room, another nice surprise. I have no regret choose to stay there, only regret we didn't stay longer !
Amazing Service and View”
We arrived late at night to check in and the room we booked was already taken. In exchange, the reception upgraded us to the Family Room while apologizing profusely (which was totally unnecessary, who doesn't love an upgrade?). Our view was facing the beautiful Japanese gardens at the hotel grounds. The Westin Miyako was really the perfect place to kickstart a long day at Kyoto.
There was great feel to the hotel, on entrance. Rooms were good and spacious. However, it is not the best location, if someone wants to be at a happening city center - it is a bit off the city centre.
Secluded hotel but with shuttle bus convenience”
It is located away from the busy area, so if this is what you want, this hotel is ideal. Make full use of its shuttle bus where you can take for free when you arrive at the Kyoto Station to the hotel. Room is spacious enough (not the usual small space Japanese hotel). Food quality is great! But the guests staying at this hotel tend to be the more senior ones and more formal crowd. Nonetheless, recommend you stay there if you have not tried it before.
Convenience and location a big plus”
Yes as affordable. Good position close to Temple walks -philosophers path and train subway. Also fresh air with opening windows. BUT the breakfast and the the breakfast dining are were very very average. Free Shuttle bus handy into Town and Train Station Decor old and a bit outdated.
We had a great stay at the Westin. The service was amazing, the property was clean and well managed and the regular shuttle service to Kyoto Station was appreciated. The Westin was our favorite place that we stayed during our 2 week stay in Japan, we will definitely return to the Westin when we next visit Japan.
We really live the location of the hotel which walkable to train station, shrine, the zoo etc We also love the shuttle bus which can take us to the main area but unfortunately can't take us back to the hotel Staff were nice and helpful. we also enjoyed the huge room. Feels like home
The location is fantastic and the shuttle to the train station and other stops was such an added benefit. The breakfast was wonderful too. We loved the scenic hike Located in the hotel grounds. We would definitely recommend this hotel to travelers going to Kyoto.
Lovely hotel, beautiful gardens”
We got upgraded to a much larger room with a huge bathroom and lounge area. The room was amazing and surprisingly large considering other rooms we have seen in Japan. There was a great balcony attached to the room. The gardens around the hotel are amazing and the short forest walk behind the hotel is so pretty and relaxing. The room service breakfast was great. The only thing is that it was a bit of a walk from other restaurants and shops. Overall a great stay, thank you.
Very big hotel with many facilities but old and out dated. Staffs were well trained ready in positi”
This is a big hotel with hundreds of rooms, many restaurants, out-door facilitues, gardens sitting on hillside of mountain. Near to Kyoto attractions. Good staffs were ready for any request. However, rooms are a bit small in typical Westin standard and old. Gym is extremely small and gears are rusted, charging U$5 to hotel guest. This is ridiculous.
Pleased we chose this hotel”
Exceptional staff service. A few issues with bar service and poor dish choice on the ala carte cafe menu - eventually resolved to our complete satisfaction. Change of room at no extra cost to Japanese room/apartment was my wife's inspired last minute decision handled with great courtesy by the hotel.
Stayed 4 nights during our honeymoon in Japan. Nice and spacey room. Hotel arranged a honeymoon cake for us. Food serve was nice and the location is actually nice to explore some of the sightseeing place. Rented their bicycle to explore the surrounding. It was a nice experience !!
A nice stay overall”
Got a special last-minute deal and it was well worth it. Sadly there was no breakfast included so I cannot rate that but the evening bar was very nice, with a comfortable atmosphere. The room was nice enough, though Japanese hotels are built along factory lines so don't expect much more than the functional. As with everything in Japan, formality passes for customer service, so don't expect friendliness or much attention beyond that which will be mechanically paid to a "customer".
Loved this hotel”
While some people might understandably want to stay in other parts of Kyoto, this is a great choice for the Higashiyama area, within walking distance to excellent temples, shrines, some good museums, and unique restaurants.
Non-smoking rooms smoky!!”
We booked non-smoking rooms and not only were they on a smoking floor so the hallways were vile with old smoke the rooms themselves were very smelly. When I inquired they said they used "air purifiers" to clean the air to change a smoking to nonsmoking room! IT DOESNT WORK!!
Excellent Stay in a Japanese Style Room”
We had an excellent stay at the Westin Miyako. The hotel is in a great location for sightseeing, while it is a bit of a walk or drive to the downtown/Gion area. They provide a shuttle to this area as well as the Kyoto Station, which is very convenient. The Keage subway stop is literally out the front door so taking this is very easy. We stayed in a Japenese style room, and although the hotel is dated and in need of a renovation, everything was kept up very well and service was excellent. It took a day or so to get used to the Japanese style room, given that we are Americans, but after a day or so, we were so glad we booked it. It gave us more insight into the Japanese culture. They serve tea every day in the rooms, in traditional Japanese style, which we enjoyed every morning and night. This was a great option for wanting a Japanese style experience but with the hotel amenities such as the bars and restaurants. I would highly recommend the Japanese breakfast, by far the best meal there. We had breakfast in Aquablue once but I preferred the Japanese. There are some great restaurants within walking distance, one in particualar called Bamboo, which was one of our favorite meals. Note it is not on the hotel list they give out, but it is down the street. The hotel is very close to Philospher's Path and also Shoren-In/Chion-In, both some of our favorite locations in Kyoto. All in all, I would recommend this hotel for service, experience, and location. The hotel is defititely in need of a renovation, but the service and quality definitely makes up for that.
