Worth the Money”
This is the cheapest hotel we could find in sf the last minute. We read the reviews before going and thought it would be bad but, it’s clean, there’s a tv fridge and microwave in the room, and the location is right in Chinatown so you can walk to everything very easily. Downsides, it’s above a topless bar so it’s loud. I can sleep though anything, but my bf needed earplugs.
Fire Safety Concerns”
Cannot recommend for safety reasons. Both Emergency Fire Exits obstructed. One was totally blocked by two laundry trolleys plus a vacuum cleaner and the other was obstructed by a vacuum cleaner causing a trip hazard. The only clear exit in an emergency would have been the normal entrance - this consists of a narrow staircase with fairly steep narrow treads to the first level above ground where reception is situated. Had a fire occurred there would, in my opinion, almost definitely have been a crush and panic trying to get out. Additionally it would appear that there are no staff overnight, in which case I suspect there would have been no method of accessing a guest manifest and ascertaining if all guests had safely exited the building in the event of fire. Lack of hotel staff in the event of fire might also contribute to a panic situation. I did alert reception in the morning about the obstructed Fire Exits but as I only stayed one night I don't know if any action was taken. I would not describe this as a hotel - more as a place where you can rent a room for the night ..........
Very good”
Super handy old hotel that looks down on City Lights bookstore and up at the Transamerica building. We walked down the hill to the Embarcadero and over to Fisherman's Wharf. I have a breathing problem, so my daughter and I rented those street 🛴 scooters to go back up the hill. It was a blast. We had lunch on the wharf, and breakfast both days at Cafe Trieste, which is just down the street from the hotel. Chinatown for dinner one night, and a slice of pizza and salad at the restaurant to the left of the hotel, and a great carne asada burrito at the restaurant to the right of the hotel. There's a liquor store where you can buy water around the corner. The thing that made us laugh about the hotel was the stairs as you open the front door. They go straight up. No elevator. Everything was perfectly clean. The only thing was the vomit on the threshold of the room nextdoor still had vomit on it from the person who didn't quite make it all the way inside to puke. In the afternoon it was cleaned up. The room was nice. There were high ceilings. Tasteful painting and decor. The TV was fine. The beds were new and the sheets were new. The friendly clerk handed us the clean blankets when we checked in. My daughter's only complaint was that she was cold. It's central heating without room controls. My wife and I were fine. She climbed into bed with us the second night, and she was warm. But we're from Arizona and not used to the cold. The bathroom was new and clean. I could have used a plastic cup, but I bought a water bottle the next day and used that. And the bustling Columbus Ave view from the corner window, which you could slide open and take the city in, was amazing. Just know that this area is also home to old strip joints, but I think because of covid-19, that all seemed to be shut down. A few homeless men and few tourists these days. Chinatown on Grant for the tourists was mostly shut down, but the food markets of the residents were busy on Stockton. Some restaurants are
Great value for the money, would stay here again.”
The rooms and bathrooms and showers were very clean. Shared bathrooms for the floor but the rooms are equipped with a sink and mirror, fridge, and microwave., as well as a large flat screen TV with satellite. There is wifi but the connection is hit or miss. Only complaint is no fan or ac in the rooms so they can get a bit stuffy. Ad also says there's hotel parking but there really isn't. You have to pay to stay in a garage, lot or metered parking . Or try to find 2 hr or free parking on the streets, being mindful of street sweeping days and times and the times you are not allowed to park there. Be careful to Read signs around the area you intend to park . Other than this, the rate and centralized tourist location is hard to beat.
Stay often ”
Clean facilities, spacious rooms, & approachable staff. Great value and close to everything SF has to offer. Pier 39 like 20 minute walk. Downtown SF 20 minute walk. China Town two minute walk. So much to eat the Mexican rest down stairs has amazing burritos but I like the quesadillas at the restaurant like to the right around the corner..
