Good hotel
This is a good hotel with an excellent location. You are nearby two underground train stations. Food are just walking distance. Breakfast is simple but sufficient. However, as the building is old, you will be able to hear people walking from above (as I was staying at the basement level). Nonetheless, it is a value for money hotel.

good for a night's sleep
I wan in the hotel for a week in August 2016. The hotel is excellently sited and value for money (alomost...). The rrom was very small and rather clean, the TV receprion was patchy (BBC1+ 2 were not there, so were other channels). The hotel is ecellently served by two nearby tube stations and numerous busses. Value for money and good for a few nights in LOndon.

A below par hotel in a handy and attractive part of London.
The Berjaya is in a lovely part of London, and close to so many useful shops, transport links and to Kensington Gardens. Everything we needed. But the hotel isn't amazing. Wasn't expecting 4 or 5* luxury from the price we paid, but there's some things it's disappointing to see hotels just not get right. We arrived early and asked if there were any rooms available to check into. There weren't. Which was fine. Happy to wait til one becomes available. But when other guests arrive and get given a room when we've been waiting an hour isn't cool. The rooms are clean, comfy, no frills. But the shower cubicle is so small as to make it almost difficult to take a shower. The corridor carpets could do with a deep clean if they can't afford to be replaced. We enjoyed the novelty factor of the smallest elevator in the world, but it's so slow and when you're in the third floor and it's a busy time of day, just use the stairs. We didn't have an evening meal there, but the breakfast looked unpleasant and overexpensive. Plenty of decent value places to eat just round the corner from the hotel. The decor in the bar and reception is very dated, the staff, being generous, are "okay", and the major bugbear, despite it being a first world problem, is wifi. If you advertise yourself as having free wifi for your guests, make sure it works. Perhaps it does if you wait several hours to be the only person trying to check an email. Not good enough. There's worse places to stay out there, but the Berjaya could be so much better and simply doesn't seem to want to make the effort. Safe in the knowledge that it'll always have a steady stream of guests on a budget in one of the world's most popular cities. I suspect the rows of hotels that line the street have the same approach. But a little investment in this place would go a long way and make it stand out, given they're blessed with an attractive building in an upmarket neighbourhood.
