Value, honesty, and great communications”
This hostel is not like others. The Manager is called Nick and he is extremely hospitable and caring. Our flight came in late but he stayed in touch with us. They have a check in before 10 pm policy and he reached out around 2 pm just to be sure we could make it. He even provided his personal cellphone to us in case we were late and he would come assist. He also gave us a free upgrade, which he didn't have to do. So if you're looking for a good value I would highly recommend European Hostel.

Great hostel! The hostel is what you make of it! What can I say,came here for a business trip and enjoyed my accommodations here! Didn’t expect much or didn’t expect very little,they have big kitchen and common area for you to do your cooking or resting while enjoying the city! Close to many clubs,bars and shops in the SOMA area,downtown and fisherman’s warf is just 10-20 minutes away,close to market street to catch the bus or train!I don’t drive so I don’t know about parking! Renting a scooter or bike in the city is the best way to enjoy the city I perhaps! Enjoyed my stay thanks will be back! Mucho gracias!

great value & terrific staff to help us travelers. big,bigkitchen & lounge area with larrge screen TV.(over 60 channels:-))) comfy bed; met my neighbors....Miranda was cute with an open invite to her home town hot showers, lots of towels, Tpaper & soap! convenient location, easy to get around to all the fab San Fran summer events. Happy to see Mels Kitch & Tommys J. , bpth open on VAN NESS. A SPECIAL CITY, with all the city workers pitching in to rebuild; SF. is growing back again to its' unique & special warmth... GO THERE!!! Staff is great, friendly, people are respectful. In a location that is not easy to move through yet this hostel is a good refuge. Slept good. Windows open all night. Money saver if you are in need.

New but dirty”
Nick was nice guy but sometimes just wired/ unfriendly. Room was big enough for 6 people but few power outlets.. Pretty smelly and dirty. Just like the bathroom.. After 5 minutes of showering you halfway flooded the shower because the water isn't going through the sink... Toilets and floor was dirty... Fridge full of shit which was never moved during the time I was there.. Trash not emptied, often no Toilet paper, dirtzy mattress and covers... Not a place you want to stay for longer...

Our apologies that your stay did not go as planned. We replace toilet paper in our 3 bathrooms on each floor we have frequently and there may be a few minutes when it runs out and we are working on it. We have cleaning staff who clean several times a day. We do keep our hostel safe and secure at all times. Your room was fully inspected prior to check in and everything was in good condition. We had pest control inspect your room and they did not find anything. We are a hostel with shared facilities and at times it can get a bit untidy and we do our best cleaning multiple times a day. We will be more aware in the future.

Staff was accommodating, but the facilities were very dirty. There were mice in the kitchen, the dirty dishes stacked up and smelling, the furniture was covered in crumbs, and the list goes go. This was not a pleasant experience.....

As you booked in Shared Dormitory, Women only (6-Bed), so we requested you to change the reservation details from Women only to Mix dormitory as its booked by the third party so we are not authorized to make any changes on the reservation and as per the rules we can not allow a man to stay in the Women Dormitory.

good choice for the cost-conscious”
For the budget-conscious, the European Hostel is a good choice, though I have yet to stay in other hostels in the city. However, the private room was sorely lacking in space, with barely enough room to manoeuvre after laying down a large suitcase. That said, the double bed was comfortable enough. Being an early riser, I didn't encounter much waiting to use the shared bathrooms. The bathrooms are also cleaned daily, though there is a lingering bad smell in some of them. Didn't use the kitchen facilities, and didn't have to interact with the staff much at all. Though there are many homeless people in the area, I didn't encounter any issues despite walking back alone after midnight, for up to 30 minutes each time. Checked in after 10pm, and out before 10am, and both times the process was quick and efficient.

I was a bit nervous when booking the hostel with such bad rating. But it was acceptable when I came in, not extremely bad as I thought. With this price, no other places can beat it.
