God is my witness, I didn’t want to write this review because I usually follow the principle of “say something good or say nothing at all” and simply avoid returning to places that disappoint me. But two ruined mornings are just too much. It all started reasonably well: the location is convenient, with good transport links, and we were greeted by a friendly host who helped us exchange money and promptly checked us in. However, be prepared for the fact that in this so-called “five-star” hotel, no one will assist you with your luggage, explain the hotel’s rules, or provide basic toiletries like toothpaste and toothbrushes. Even a proper hairdryer with attachments isn’t available. The spa is indeed wonderful—no complaints there. The rooms, while old, are clean. However, the curtains in our room were overdue for a wash. The real issue lies with the service, which is simply disastrous. I’ve never encountered anything like it, especially in hospitable Azerbaijan. The first morning: We woke up to the sound of water—literally. A waterfall was pouring from our ceiling as if it were a torrential downpour outside. The water ruined some of our belongings in the bathroom, and the electricity also went out. We immediately contacted the reception, but their response was far from prompt. They tried to stop the water and dry the room, but nothing worked. After about an hour, they moved us to another room. However, this new room was of a lower category, smaller, and lacked the beautiful view we had originally booked. Nobody offered to help us move our belongings, and no one apologized for the inconvenience. We had to carry our luggage ourselves and request to have the new key card reprogrammed. The new room wasn’t fully cleaned either—some towels were missing, and the cleaning was incomplete. We had to find a housekeeper ourselves to get fresh towels and finalize the cleaning. For all these inconveniences (damaged belongings, disrupted sleep, an hour-long wait, and being moved to a lower-category room), we ourselves proposed compensation in the form of breakfast. After some discussion, the staff agreed to this compromise. The second morning: The long-awaited morning came, and we were in a hurry to leave for our excursion. However, there was no breakfast for us. We were simply forgotten. When we raised the issue at the reception, a young man instead of apologizing, remarked that they had already done us a favor by checking us in at 11:30 a.m., even though check-in is officially from 2:00 p.m. Excuse me? After being flooded and having our belongings soaked, were we supposed to wait until 2:00 p.m. for a new room? When we finally managed to get our breakfast, we had already lost our appetite, and there wasn’t enough time to eat. My husband refused to go at all, as he found such treatment unacceptable. The final straw: At check-out, we faced yet another surprise—they tried to charge us for a “missing” Snickers bar from the minibar, which we obviously hadn’t taken. They didn’t even bother checking the cameras and eventually shrugged it off, calling it a “gift from the hotel.” Sorry, but we don’t need such “gifts.” We are perfectly capable of buying our own Snickers and breakfasts. But are you prepared to compensate me for my ruined belongings? What exactly have you done to make up for all these inconveniences? Instead of apologizing for the flooding, the incomplete cleaning of the new room, and the disruption to our plans, you couldn’t even manage the bare minimum of offering proper compensation.
