Peaceful oasis outside Mas Hong Son”
Wonderful stay, the staff (all local Karen) are delightful. The facilities are well kept and the setting incredibly tranquil. This eco resort began as an initiative w government funding to bring tourism to rural areas and it is a real gem.
Fantastic resort in green environment ”
Nice room good breakfast lovely staff
We loved the gardens and having cocktails watching the sunset over the rice fields, the restaurant served delicious meals and the staff was generally excellent. The location was a bit away from MHS, but very easy to access. The only negative part was that the room was very damp, there was no ventilation nor windows in the bathroom, so the bathroom was damp even in the morning (aftet a shower the night before), and the room generally felt too damp. Shower had nice pressure, but the showerhead was on such a short cord that it would be impossible to wash hair without bending or sitting down in the bathtub (I'm 170cm).
a great resort! the pictures on the website can't describe well enough how beautiful the place is. with the rice fields and the water flowing through. they even built a new infinity pool. the location is 15 minuets drive from mae hong son, but they have shuttels to town. the only thing that can be improved is the food which was a bit average. the resort is located just inside the jungle - which was fantastic for us, but if you are not a fan of jungle sound and animals then you might not have so much fun as we did.
Best stay of our journey in Thailand!”
We liked: - Very warm welcome - Amazing room in amazing surrounding - The rice field view pool - The tasteful food We didn't like: - Well...hard to say! We didn't understand people complaining about the bamboo hitting on the stones, since we found the sound very relaxing.
Nice mattress but hard, very nice services and nice resting place...
Literally next to nature! So you really can't complain about leaves or bugs. Everything we needed were in the rooms. Breakfast was acceptable; dinner was also not too bad. Staff was great since most of those we met always greeted us. We didn't swim then because it was pretty cold. Having a beer before sunset while watching the paddy fields was awesome. ^_^
It's a lovely place and a slice of heaven really. Whilst they have photos of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt at reception who have stayed there a couple of times don't go thinking it's some 5 star Chi-Chi resort because it isn't and things go wrong occasionally but they do their very best to fix them - but above all else remember it's lovely and pretty decent value.
5 star resort at 3 star price!”
We love it there and would like to go back! The resort landscape is very beautiful. Room is simple but sufficient. Breakfast has variety of options from local, Thai, to international food. Staff is very helpful and friendly.
Very nice setting”
A little on the pricey side meant that we maybe hoped for a little more. However lovely calm resort. Very good breakfast. Lovely rice terrace to watch the sunset. Nice to have a swimming pool onsite and they do provide transport to and from town at certain times of the day as well as lifts to and from the bus station and airport. Very friendly staff. Nice place to stay as a bit of a treat!
Paradaise in the jungle!”
We stayed here for 2 nights!! Fantastic resort right in the jungle ! Clean and stunning setting!we where lucky to get a driver with help from the hotel, he ended up with us for 5 nights!!' Nice staff and a good breakfast 😀😀😀😀
Beautiful grounds, large rooms, cozy bungalows”
A thoughtfully laid out resort ... rice paddies, well spaced bungalows so you did not feel crowded, trees, explanations of local flora and interesting cultural beliefs and activities, at night the lights sprinkled around the place were magical. The swimming pool is sufficient, thought not large. Breakfast a little disappointing - a Thai version of a Western breakfast, when Thai options or a real Western breakfast would be more fitting of the place.
Would gladly come back again and again”
They staff were outstanding and extraordinarily friendly. We loved the lush garden setting and rice paddies. It is for nature lover who don't mind the insects that come with it. If you are bothered by mosquitoes or frogs, you might not like it. We think it was wonderful and would gladly come back.
We booked through Agoda at 1500 baht per night and were upgraded to a suite on arrival. Peace and tranquillity resonated throughout our stay at Fern Resort. Our cabin was spacious, clean and bright and we loved the rear balcony that looked out into the jungle where we sat and relaxed each evening with a cold drink listening to the sounds of nature. The room was adequately furnished and contained a very large double bed that gave a good nights sleep. Facilities were also available to make a cuppa but note that there are no televisions or fridges in these cabins and also no safety deposit boxes. Complimentary WIFI is available but we did not make use of it. There is a lovely pool on site just across from the restaurant where we went each morning for breakfast. I would describe the breakfast provided as adequate, eggs cooked to your preference with small sausages, pressed ham and toast. Cereals and fruit are also provided. We had dinner in the restaurant one evening and the food was excellent; a dish we highly recommend to try is the northern Thai (Shan) curry, it was delicious. It must be noted that there are five dogs who roam the resort and they like to hang around the restaurant area in particular. This won't be to everyones liking but we loved them all, Nin, Puy, Numtan, Dum and the little cutie Snow White! If you have an aversion to dogs or don't like them around your feet when having a meal then you had better book elsewhere. These dogs are also provided to customers who wish to go on the jungle treks outside the resort. Fern also provides a free return shuttle going into Mae Hong Son three times a day at scheduled times. If you want to make use of their transport outside of these times then it will cost 200 baht. The staff at the resort were friendly enough and they will happily provide you with information on day trips.we are very happy to recommend the Fern Resort to fellow travellers.
Boutique hotel with a charm and service”
During our 6 days Chiangmai and vicinity drive from Bangkok, Fern Resort is our Top pick! Set admist lush garden, trees and padi fields with natural stream flowing through the resort gave us the peace and tranquility while we were there. They even have famous hollywood superstar agmong their guest list! Although the resort is about 6 KM from the city centre but is ideal place if you prefer nature and peace. There is even a 4 hour treking trial which begins right behind the Dinning hall. The staffs are all Karen and very friendly and helpful. Za Za the supervisor of the Dining hall stands out! I will certainly return to stay more than one night here
Very natural and beautiful hotel”
I stayed at Fern resort last year (December 2013). Firstly, I thought it's a just a normal hotel but I have to change my mine after later. It's very beautiful hotel. The room is very clean and nice. Staff is a local people but they're very friendship. The hotel outside is natural and very relaxing. I would go back again in the future if i have an opportunity.
good and friendly ”
it's a countryyard resort, there is a big garden in this hotel including a rice paddy.you will feel very natural staying in here... BTW, my foot was bited by a wild insect (may be the wasp) in the room, the boss's daughter took me to the hospital to see doctor, and pay for me.it's very nice for her to do every thing for me in the hospital, and bought the iced package for me to reduce the pain, all let me feel very friendly...
Relaxing holiday and greenery at your doorstep”
The resort is located a distance from the city center for a good reason - to bring us closer to nature so we can wake up to the rice field and mountain view in the morning! There is no tv in the room and wifi is only available at the lobby area - this allows us to put the technology down and simply rest and relax!
Fern Resort - a rural idyl”
I chose to stay out of town, and picked the Fern Resort from the half dozen or so options. On reaching Mae Hong Son airport I phoned for a shuttle bus and it was there within 15 minutes. The resort is a complex of simple wooden buildings all blending in harmoniously into the lush greenery that is the hallmark of this resort. Check-in was swiftly accomplished and within minutes I was taken to my simply furnished hut with balconies to front and rear. The bed was fine with a good hard mattress and sheets that smelled very fresh. Sitting on the front balcony with rice fields immediately in front and a small wooded hill rising up in the background, I knew I had made the right choice. The swimming pool was of a decent size, and being unheated, it was somewhat breathtaking for the first minute or so, but then wonderfully refreshing. Drinks were available from the adjacent bar, and the restaurant was a few steps further on. There is another bar at the far end of the estate, perfectly situated for sunset - a couple of margueritas there as the sun went down and all problems seemed to fade away into the crimson haze. Breakfast offered more than I had expected given the simplicty of the resort, and was deightful to eat to the sound of the bamboo water shutes clunking rythmically. All in all, wonderfully relaxing, and I look forward to returning as soon as I can.
Angelina Jolie liked it, but ... no internet in the rooms?”
The pictures in Agoda looked like a very warm and welcoming place and indeed, the area is very nice when you walk in. Water everywhere, in the middle of the jungle. Maybe this is the reason why there where more chemicals in the pool than water. And, the biggest disappointment, no internet in the rooms and boards that internet will be switched of at all later in the evenings. Bottom line, nice place to be, for a while, coming back, no ...
