walking distance to Billie Jean King Tennis Center”

We went to the 2013 US Open, so we were only in the hostel for sleep. The hostel itself is in Flushing, which is heavily Korean (we liked that) and very safe to walk around. My husband and I walked from the Tennis Center to the hostel (about 1.5 miles, ~ 25minutes) at 1am and had no problems or safety concerns (still plenty of people walking around at night). The hostel room itself is small, really small, with a small econo-fridge and a 15 inch tv. Our room had twin-size bunk beds, too small for a couple to sleep in one. The bunk bed frame was old but sturdy. The mattresses were okay, not great, but doable. There is nowhere to sit in the hostel room. The outside noise was minimal (but we were not facing the street). The window AC unit was working well. The Ladies' bathroom was from the 80's, but reasonably clean and the water was hot quickly in the showers (bare minimum equipment). We prepaid the hostel, so we had no problems (unlike others, who were canceled due to overbooking). The wireless connection only works in the small lobby. This is not a hostel with community areas, so there is no microwave etc for community use and it does not feel 'like home'. The YMCA has a big gym with significant foot traffic and that's how it feels like. The hostel seemed international, with a heavy lean towards Asians. We ate at a Korean BBQ place, which was very authentic and good. There are many 24 hour Korean restaurants in the area. We never ventured into Manhattan, as that was not the purpose of our trip and would have taken over 1 hour. We would go back to the hostel for another US Open trip due to the location and the price, but it's very basic and I wouldn't go with kids, elder family members etc.

An adventure”

If you are open-minded and on a budget, this is a doable stay. The room was quite adequate and clean. The furnace was on, very hot and couldn't be turned off. I've since learned that is a NY thing. If I had been less tired when I arrived, I may have thought to turn on the ac window unit to counteract the heat and the outside noise. Since it is a YMCA and people live there, the bathroom was not the cleanest. I'm not sure there is much the YMCA can do about that other than monitor the bathroom every 10 minutes. I know that the price is low for NY but that room would have been $30 anywhere else except maybe LA or SF. The Y is across the street from a beautiful old high school and a block away from an even more beautiful police station which made for a pleasant walk to get breakfast and coffee at a nearby Starbucks.

Great place! Everyone in the building was so friendly and helpful! Flushing is a wonderful neighbourhood, and staying at the Y you get an authentic feel for Queens. I would love to stay here again - great value for cost!

Cheap stay but again credit card overcharge”

I read about credit card overcharge when i stayed here in the reviews and was dismayed to learn it happened to me. The rooms were basic, hostel style but for the price great. It appears the reception staff couldnt find my booking and charged me as if i had no booking, but on contacting agoda the money was refunded. The area is nice and safe and lots of cheap eateries but a little far from manhattan.

Good choice for saving money, poor choice for enjoying NYC”

As many comments mention, this hostel is poor on hygienic and service. However, the price for you to live in Flushing is still attractive enough. The room I live is quiet. Don't image there are very poor hygienic condition even though I notice that, it just not as good as I should be.

Great for a cost effective trip”

The place was clean despite being old. The shared bathroom was located in the hallway. The staff was very friendly and nice. we were able to park our car in the parking lot for $5/night. All together, I enjoyed staying there

No more next time”

Check in and out was hassle! Waited 30 minutes with no help. Totally didn’t care about hotel guest but only taking care of facilities users/membership applicants! Elevators always being used by so many staff or other facilities users. Elevator was slow like snail! Too tired to have to go thru so many doors and locks to get up to the guest room floors! Using the Bathroom also must bring a key! Totally not worth paying such a rate for these kinds of hassle!

Paid for double room with double bed as asked as an option received a dorm room. Could not contact manager to change. Choose somewhere else unless this is OK. No refund or discount.

Furnishing is outdated but clean. WIFI works well. Having access to the full gym is the reason I choose to stay. Will use again.

Good hostel ”

To be a hostel, it’s very good. You couldn’t have best experience and save money in same time.Every corridor and bathroom is locked which is more safety. The bed is cleaning and room is warm, good experience. 作为一个青旅来说还是很好的，毕竟你不能在省钱的同时还期望有特别好的环境。楼道的门和厕所门都有锁还是比较安全的，床很干净，房间很暖和，省钱的话住这里还是很好的。离新世界挺近的，附近还有很多烤串店。
