Cheap dorm rates”

Food District Hostel Cebu Central is just a 5- to 10-minute away from the Cebu IT Park. However, if you are going to find the place on your own, it is a bit difficult. You may use Maps or Waze. Do not be deceived by the name. The hostel is not located in a food district or in a street lined with streetfood stalls. For P200, you can have a decent bed in its dorm accommodation.

GLEAMINGLY CLEAN AND AFFORDABLE, COED DORMS ”

Food District Hostel deserves its praise for being well maintained given it's super affordability. It sets a good precedent for the hostel-living life solo travelers are getting themselves into. The styling / decor is really cute! Who wouldn't love to hang out at their many lounge areas or at the very least photograph them? The staff is kind, esp. Bon Jovi (yes, that's his real name). The lady, not so. Not sure if that's a cultural nuance. They didn't note the request I made when I booked online regarding sharing the dorm room with females only. I am a noob at solo backpacking after all. It wasn't a deal breaker but I would have preferred to be informed somehow of having new male roommates come in the middle of the night. :) Or is that too much to ask? Moving on, the common toilets and shower room(s) just need to be set with floor / wall tiles; other than that, it's fairly adequate--and no, you don't have to fear toilet clogging! :D One last area for improvement would be to have a locker room with actual individual lockers that they can rent to guests. They currently just allow guests to leave luggage in a room where the staff sleeps in. They're trustworthy enough but that little detail would endear the hostel to travelers; perhaps even more endearing than your decor and tidiness. ;)

Points of interest in Cebu City are accessible from this hotel. Hotel staff are also friendly and accommodation. I think it would be best for them to check the cleanliness of every room. The shower is not working and there are room facilities needing repair.

My Review”

First time stay in Lahug area. Better than Colon. Hostel almost near JY Square. It’s near IT Park too. Staff were friendly especially Ate Maridol. She kept all the shared bathroom clean. This place is better for young travelers. I traveled with my mother, aunt and niece but I booked this place because of its affordability. I will take my gang here next time I visit Cebu. Thanks.

Meh”

It was an alright hostel, although it is quite a distance from the city centre and if you want to go sightseeing or to other paces of interest On Cebu Island, it's quite a distance. Otherwise it's a reasonably priced hostel for a place to crash on your first and last night just to recuperate and not have to travel too far to the airport. (Still took about 30 - 45 minutes by Habal-Habal to the airport.)

I enjoyed my stay in this hostel. Homey feeling.”

Been in the Hostel for 3days and extended my stay for 2 nights. Just to add: perhaps they can have a work stations outside the room; install lockers just to put some personal belongings, there is a space between room good for 6 and 8 (customer will bring their own pad locks); wifi is very slow. Apart from these the hostel is fairly good. Restaurants nearby. Cheap / street food outside. You can ride 04C jeepney infront of the hostel, and can take you to the city proper.

Staffs are friendly. We booked the standard room with shared bathroom. Location is a near IT Park, however, so dark during night. Nearest fast food is a 5mins walk away but since it was dark, we opted to buy in a iwasan near the hostel. Too many clubs around the area so you will encounter drunk teenagers.

Lady receptionist wasn't hospitable. She insisted that we don't have a booking even if she hasn't access their agoda app yet and I'm showing her the email receipt i got from agoda. She told us the hostel is fully booked. I had to call agoda to clarify my booking. Only then she gave us a room (turned out hostel wasn't fully booked after all) and she don't know about the payment options their hostel is offering (book now pay later option etc.) She didn't apologized. She's frowning the whole time. What a way to welcome guests. Location, vakue for money, facilities, and cleanliness are all good. She's the only one who ruined our stay here.

The hostel's location is very near the tourist spots, it would take you just few mins going there and all the transportation means are available within the area, it's a very good choice if you opt to tour around the city and it's very clean and have foodparks and malls near. My only concern is that the staffs are not knowledgeable that much in commuting, when you ask them they would just say they don't know and would suggest just take a grab or habal habal which will cost you much if you're a budgetary traveller.
