Experience a truly tranquil holiday in Port Arthur in one of the 38 Tudor-styled guestrooms. Nestled amid rolling hills and deep forests that seem like an oasis of the bush, Fox and Hounds Inn is located right on the water with breathtaking views from the rooms. Be sure to check out the in-house restaurant featuring local and international delights amid a fireplace and deep armchair setting that truly gives a comfortable and royal feel. Excellent”
Fox and the Hounds Inn is a decent hotel for the price. The staff is amazing, very kind and it is close to everything Port Arthur has to offer. Rooms and bathroom are a bit outdated. We could hear our neighbors through the walls. Overall it was a very pleasant experience.
Thank you for your comments. Pleased you enjoyed beautiful Port Arthur.
Staying at Port Arthur”
We chose this hotel for it's quirkiness. The room was more than spacious, and we had a gorgeous view of the lake from our room. This is close to all you would go to see in Port Arthur. There was a lovely little bar area inside, but the best feature is the restaurant. The meals are fantastic, flavoursome and plenty. The staff are friendly and accommodating. The only thing is that it is that the property is a bit tired and really needs some TLC, that's why I only gave 4 stars for cleanliness. However for the money we paid it was fine.
Nice atmosphere”
This is my second trip to Port Arthur and my second stay at this hotel. We had a lovely room with a beautiful water view. The restaurant sells wonderful food and huge servings. The hotel is very convenient to Port Arthur historic site and other local natural attractions. Great value.
Great Location”
great location for the port arthur area with great access to the port arthur historic site which the entry fee gives you 2 days access which believe me you will need. the hotel is clean and in a good location - we were at the back of the hotel near the river which was a plus.
Great location and surroundings”
Excellent location for Port Arthur historial grounds. Fox and Hounds Inn set in a lovely setting. Room was average a bit tired but no major complaints. Restaurant in the hotel was busy but we didn't have to wait long for our food.
Great location...fantastic view”
A great place to stay after a day at Port Arthur. The room we had looked directly out over the water...fantastic. Quiet...comfortable...great pizza from the restaurant.
Great and close to historic site”
Loved the stay here. The architecture and look of the hotel is a total trip. Food was great in the bar. 3 minute drive to the Port Arthur historical site. The bar was great, and they have a bottle shop attached.
Cottage Style Comfort”
No wonder big travel company brand uses this hotel. Lovely cottage style setting, English taste decor restaurant. What else could you ask for in Port Arthur. The room is clean and staff are helpful. Our room faces the quiet sea behind which provided beautiful sun rise view. Picturesque! You have to try a night there.
Perfect location on the water”
We absolutely loved our stay at the Fox and Hounds. It was close to everything, we had the most fantastic view across the inlet/lake, room was generous and comfortable. Staff were friendly, great value for money and the food at the pub was great! Highly recommend!
Functional”
The Fox and Hounds is well located for Port Arthur, the Three Capes Track etc. The rooms were warm and clean with a lovely outlook to a local lagoon/pond. Unable to access any station on the TV and the staff didn't seem concerned when I pointed it out - may have been better not to have a TV at all. Meals in the Inn were standard fair - and table service average.
Very good”
Great location if visiting Port Arthur. Be aware that if booking through Agoda app that price is in US dollars and not AUS dollars...not apparent until you have booked and paid.
Passing through”
Perfectly adequate with acceptable comfort and value. Kitchen facilities quite good but some equipment faults in the bathroom. Beds were quite comfortable and convenience to Port Arthur is good.A suitable overnight stay.
Close to Port Arthur”
Very close to Port Arthur site-warm and clean
Good”
The hotel was comfortable and relaxed for a dinner setting. The room was clean and had views straight from window to water. It is close to Port Arthur location. The staff that we communicated with were helpful and professional. We would stay there again.
A normal motel with intermediate level facility”
Facilities are old though the motel was refurbished in 2008, bath room is small, hot water cylinder is small as well...but all these "drawbacks" are understandable due to its "outback" location. Close to Port Arthur. The only mobile signal is Telstra...
Some Good Aspects”
The hotel is well located if you don't want to face a long drive after a day at Port Arthur. The hotel itself is very inviting and the motel rooms have some good aspects. You can forgive the discoloured water, the knee-high taps in the shower, the low water pressure, the lack of microwave oven and the weak WiFi coverage if you concentrate on the generous size of the room, the lovely bay view through the huge windows, the comfortable beds and the efficient heater. We enjoyed our night's stay and were pleasantly surprised with the complementary buffet breakfast.
Overnight couple stay ”
We had s good room that was corner so a little larger, but all rooms looked a generous size . Old but well kept. Facilities clean though curtains a bit dusty smelling . We did not dine there so cannot comment But did enter to look around and found it very eclectic. Easy aCcess to Port Arthur . Only criticism would be old tins for the smokers at door of motel rooms . We are non smokers and had Neighbours at our door laughing and smoking that we could smell it in our room . Believe smoking area should be away from all doors .
Comfortable beds, great location, facilities are tired”
The Fox and the Hound is a great old English style pub. The motel rooms are clean and comfortable with some of the facilities a little tired and old. It was perfect for resting and enjoying a few alcoholic beverages after hiking for a few days but as there are limited choices around, the value for money is not as great. The staff were friendly and the area is beautiful to explore Tasmania.
Fair”
The hotel closes to port arthur historic site. It just three minutes drive. The room does not provide cooking utensils. Thus it is necessary to dine outside.
Close to Port Arthur historic site”
Food expensive, but nice. Room was adequate but needs renovating, and was not up to scratch with cleanliness mainly in the bathroom. However bed comfortable and to be able to have a few drinks and walk to the room was a bonus. Thought it was over priced, considering the accommodation we had in the area the previous night at Masons Cottages, port Arthur
