Pretty garden setting”
But the rooms have no usable windows (nothing with a mosquito screen). So kind of dark, not a place I'd hang out in. The garden is very pleasant, and this is where you get breakfast. The staff is top notch, very helpful and friendly.
Nice and helpful staff made my experience so much better. Hotel was a little more expensive than what you'd expect. All in all nothing negative to say.
Great breakfast, clean rooms, and amazing owners!”
The guest house was just like home. The owners were the most friendly, gracious, accommodating, and cheerful hosts I've ever met. They were like doting parents. They got worried when we checked-in late in the afternoon. Our room was already ready and the AC was already turned on. They will provide you with a city map and orient you in everything from good restaurants, sights to see, tours to join in, where to change your money, and even about transportation. They suggested a motorcycle rental shop that gives discount if we mention that we stay at Baanlek Home Stay. The bedroom was so clean, as well as the bathroom. The towels smelled so fresh and clean. The breakfast was so delicious! We stayed for 4 nights here and I always get excited to wake up in the morning to see what the owners prepared for breakfast. The owners prepared breakfast at 6:30am because the tourist guide will be picking us up at 7am. The location is about 10 minute walk to the Chiang Mai gate of the Old City. Their GH is located in a quiet neighborhood. The Saturday night market, which was one of the highlights of our stay in Chiang Mai, was just on the other street. The owners even brought us to the airport for free, which is like 5 minutes away from their GH. I couldn't wait to go back to Chiang Mai and stay in their GH again. =)
Super friendly staff made up a very nice stay”
The owner picked us up at the airport with around 10 minutes of waiting time. He will pick you up no matter what time you arrive, which is something other hotels do not offer. The owner was super friendly and talked like we were friends right from when we first met. Room is of good standard for its price. The hotel is five minutes walk from Wualai walking street but the way back will be a bit difficult to find without a map, which can get from the staff. Asking for directions from locals might be necessary also. Chiang Mai city gate is around 10 minutes away. The owner and his wife is ready to give suggestion for travelling, dining, or vehicle renting. Issues we had were there was no hair dryer in the room, the bathroom and toilet was not well separated and got wet most of the time, and cars running by in the evening can get pretty noisy. All in all, the owners took care of us really well and gave us some pills for free when they knew that we were going on a twisted road to Pai.
Value for money and with friendly staffs.”
We enjoyed staying at Baanlek Home Stay, the hotel near the Saturday's night market and we had a good time talking with the owner(Mr.Lek). I received free drinking of beer from him. I would recommend my friends to this hotel and I will stay again at this hotel in near future.
Feels like home”
about 10mins' walk off the city center, staying at baanlek is like stepping home to a charming 2-storey wooden house with thai-styled architecture next to an al fresco court yard. the staff are helpful and courteous. breakfast is local cuisine served in good portions. wi-fi is free. rooms are clean. good value for money. i will stay again.
Lovely hotel and service with a smile”
As many hotels in Thailand, the staff was always smiling and willing to help. The hotel is close to airport and the south port of chiang Mai, probably you need a taxi or tuk tuk to go to night bazars. Hotel was clean and have good rooms.
Lovliest guesthouse during our Thailand trip”
the owner goes out of his way to make your stay the most wonderful. You get the feeling of belonging to a big family and have the chance to get to know locals as well as people from all over the world. The rooms are clean, there's a large patio that belongs to the guesthouse. The walking state is only a couple of minutes walking time away. We were suprised that each morning there was breakfast offered to us, which wasn't included in the booking - and was really delicious. we would definitly return!
True Thai hospitality”
Our arrival was not a good start as the airport meter taxi dropped us somewhere at night market and told us to walk 5min, according to taxi driver the guest house is in the mid of the market and car can't get thru. We walked and never reach the right place, asked the locals they were not sure and when called the guest house the owner couldn't understand us well....but then we met generous people and they brought us there by their motorbike! It was just near to Wat Nantaram! Mr and Mrs Lek were waiting for us and directly brought us to our room.... They were so humble and polite, made me regret that I yelled at him in the phone just now when I could not get the place.. When we were asking for help to complain to the taxi driver, he even took that blame and wanted to pay us the taxi fees! He is kind to that extend, of cos we did not take it, it was not his problem! It was not started well but we felt his warm welcome and we are sure we will be fine to stay under his umbrella :) Room is ok, meeting expectation for this rate. The only small problem we had was occasional smell from the washroom but is not a big deal. Breakfast - we had one Thai breakfast and Western for the next day - it was very good! Before we left, we asked for some instant noodle but Mr. Lek went to buy take-away noodle for us! He was so kind and we could not tell how much we appreciate that! While waiting for his turn, Mrs. Lek even prepare fruits for us! As usual, this thoughtful owner did not accept our money when we wanted to pay them for the noodle. The most precious thing after all is again their service and smiles..we felt at home when we were at Baanlek! Grateful and Thankful to meet these super nice people, genuine Thai hospitality which we seldom find nowadays!
Home from home”
Lovely stay here. Had the best sleeps ever on the traditional bed. The hosts were wonderful in every way, and the breakfasts were amazing! Definitely coming back here. Very close to Chiang Mai gate and the Saturday market
Wonderful hosts, great location - small, dark room”
MR & Mrs Lek were very lovely hosts but its a small room and quite dark as the window opens onto the communal courtyard and if you open the window to let in light or air then the mosquitos (there are quite a few) come in, as no mosi-net. You will hear the water usage from other rooms at night - only an issue if you're a light sleeper.
Warm Guesthouse with nice owners”
I feel like I am in home when staying in Baanlek Home Stay. The owners are very helpful and nice. For location, although it is not in the Old City but it only takes 5 mins walk to the wet market, you can have many food choices there. First day when I checked into the hotel, I found the shower handle and the shower head were broken. I told the owner about it and then I was out. Few hours later when I returned to the hotel, they had already put a new one, very efficient. Last day when I was waiting for a car pick up, the owner was nice enough to offer me a pot of hot Chinese tea while waiting, I was impressed.
Welcoming, wonderful place”
From the moment I entered the hotel it was a great experience. Mr. Lek and his wife went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and to help me experience the best of Chiang Mai. I arrived very early in the morning on an overnight train and Mr. Lek was kind enough to prepare my room and have me happily ensconced within an hour of my arriving at 9 AM. This was above and beyond on his part. The hotel had a wonderfully communal feel in the common areas and breakfast each morning was a delight of conversation with the other guests from all over the world. Mr. Lek even drove me to the airport at 5:00 the morning that I left. I cannot say enough good things about this hotel and the wonderful, wonderful people who run it.
The best owners”
A great location just a short walk to the centre. The hotel is very nicely done compared to its surroundings. Clean, modern and the owners are super nice. Amazing value for money. Would definitely stay again.
Brilliant little homestay”
A wonderful little oasis if you're on a budget. It's small and 'boutiquey', extremely clean and tidy, with easily the world's friendliest owner. It's also centrally located close to the old city wall. The dozen or so rooms are small but charming and have everything you need for a few days. Wifi is good. Hotel facilities are limited so this homestay will better suit those who plan to spend most of the day out and about and need a cosy sleepover to return to. Breakfast is your basic "B&B" fare, but when the owner's wife found out 'kaaw soi' was my favourite she made her own awesome version of Chiang Mai's signature dish just for us! Easily the standout feature is the owner and his wife, who spend their days pottering about bending over backwards to do everything possible for their guests! What an truly amazing family - must be some kind of award we can submit them for? Will remember Baanlek with a great deal of fondness.
