Gardens apartment”

Secure building with parking. We had an apartment accessed via the car park. Lots of security in the building. Lovely artworks and furnishings, a kitchenette handy if travelling with kids. Only complains was our breakfast basket of breads left out on the bench for both days and not topped up so we went to the main building for breakfast in the last day.

Amazingly hospitable”

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcome like family. The staff at Derwent went that extra - providing us with a beach bag with beach towels, a frisbee and very thoughtfully iced water on an unseasonably hot day is one example. The little touches were very special like complimentary tea, coffee and cake in the afternoon, the library of CDs, the honesty bar. Excellent all round service and our apartment was perfect for us and our 14 year old son. Strongly recommend you stay here if you find yourself in Cape Town. Perfectly situated. Exceptionally friendly and welcoming”

We've been to many hotels of different classes in different places and I honestly can't think of receiving such helpful service anywhere. For a boutique hotel to have such a well stocked honesty bar (with free soup and cupcakes!) was also a pleasant surprise. Breakfast was very enjoyable, made to order and with daily specials available. It's a 20 or 30 minute walk into town but fine if you're fit, or happy to get taxis, and the local area has half a dozen restaurants etc. worth a visit.

We weren't disappointed the hotel is beautiful, relax. But the cherry on the cake was the team . They were always there for us, make you believe that we were special.

Brilliant, friendly staff make you more than welcome, the accommodation is a real eye opener in a safe environment. Ideally located for excellent bars and restaurants and within a good stroll from V&A waterfront. This is one we will return to.

We had a lovely few days at Derwent Hotel. The staff were always on hand to offer all friendly, helpful advice and tips, from booking cabs and trips to general advice about local sightseeing. Breakfast was lovely and the help yourself honesty bar and teas/coffees/biscuits all day and cakes every afternoon gave it a homely feel. On the last day we were given a late checkout so that we could comfortably prepare for our evening flight. Derwent offers all you would expect from an upmarket hotel but with the addition of the home comforts of a guesthouse. We stayed in a Beautiful Room with a lovely view of Table Mountain from the balcony and the bath! Great location, a short walk to Kloof Street with loads of great places to eat and the neighbourhood felt safe and friendly, not something you find in many other places in South Africa.

Contemporary chic in food haven! ”

We had a lovely time - the staff here are great. We were in the self-catering apartments which are not in the same building as the beautifully presented actual Derwent Guest House but a clear effort has been made to make it as comfortable as possible. The main building is beautifully done and we imagine that the bedrooms would be just as good. Great to have pool and Jacuzzi (and to enjoy the view of table mountain from both!). and the honesty bar / tea & coffees a well appreciated touch. Location: the hotel is easy to find and very close to stunning restaurants. We really enjoyed seeing a different part of Cape Town rather than staying by the waterfront. We would go back but only if we were staying in the main building.
